I'm too sad to move

I don’t get why many people are complaining Sadness being annoying and ruining everything at the start. Did we even watch the same movie or more important, do we see these kind of things same way? First of all, Sadness’ sudden urge to touch memory is something that comes from her naturally. She didn’t do it just to annoy others but because she had natural feeling that Riley should be sad now; she left a lot behind on Minnesota and she had all right to be sad about it and miss life she left behind. However because Joy continuosly prevent Sadness to do her job because “Riley should be happy now and look forward with smile” and don’t let any space for grief at all causes the biggest problems. What comes to Sadness’ personality, what did you expect? She is literally the emotion sadness. Its only expected that she is pessimistic, self-loathing and well.. Sad. However, she also shows a lot empathy and worry over others. She still worries over Joy that has treated her like garbage from the start because Sadness knows how importat Joy is for Riley.

The official book even goes deeper into this, talking about how her wanting to touch the memory orbs was an instinct, and it’s, from her own thoughts, what the memory orbs wanted her to do. “Didn’t that mean it was true?” When Joy and the others push her and she thinks she’s having a breakdown, it’s because she’s having an overload of the instinct to touch memories and she isn’t even sure she trusts her own instincts because of how everyone reacts to her. Even worse when it’s prefaced with ‘You’re hurting Riley!’ causing her to back away and question what should come naturally to her.
