Wonderfully Wonderful Wonder

Greetings! I've come across an example of efficient art, a use of minimalistic decisions that add new meaning to an old layer. And by minimalism, I don't mean lazy. I know some people who would frown on art like this, but I believe it is a good case study in how to get the most out of a single illustration, and it starts by comparing differences.

As you may have noticed, the key differences between the two panels are the expressions, shoulders, drinks, white sparks, crowns, and speech bubbles, which get more lively in the bottom panel. As a side note, I like how the Lamb's sleeves extend under the glass of beer from a round edge to a sharp one, like the goat's sleeve. These are big changes to the original top panel, but the general content hasn't changed, right?

Everything major in an artwork is the same: the perspective, background, posture, lighting, and colours are copies. Love it. When making an artwork, these aspects are crucial to plan and take a substantial amount of time, so if you can reduce that time, you can get more done. And yet! The two panels are clearly separate enough from each other.

The characterisation of the Goat and the Lamb is shown in the text bubble, through colour, shape, and font. The goat yells, the words nearly breaking from the bubble, and the Lamb cheers, the words spiking like a high pitch. That small detail adds a new way of showing the characters and how they act. Simple and effective.

This artwork is a model example of how to get the most out of a single panel, expanding on the characterisation, making something new out of old, and satisfying my need to compare artworks' small differences.
