The children of the big three are painfully beautiful.
beautiful as poisonous flowers.
One touch and you're dead.
they are thoughâtheyâre venomous creatures, poisonous flowers, forces of nature. the world itself runs through their veins. gods treat them with caution; mere humans donât stand a chance.
Percy is a riptide. heâs the calm of ocean, moments before its rage. heâs the sun on the beach, the warmth of the sand, the calming, constant crash of the waves. heâs the smell of the salt in the air and the cold of the water against your skin. you can swim, you think, youâll be fine. he smiles and itâs more beautiful than a sunset over the shore. and then the pull starts. in seconds, youâre farther from shore than youâve ever been before. trying to swim back tires you out and sees you no closer than before. in fact, now youâre even farther out. the water pulls you under, still as beautiful as it was from shore, and you canât find your way back up.
Thalia is the eye of the hurricane. the deceitful calm at the end of the storm, luring you out from your shelter. there is nothing more peaceful, more still and tranquil. the sun peeks out from the clouds that surround you from all sides. the wind and rain have died. thereâs a rainbow in the sky. the storm is overâexcept it isnât. one moment is all it takes, and the hurricane is back with a vengeance. the wind tears at you, rain lashes at you, thunder shakes your bones in place. you walked too far from your shelter, and you might not be able to make your way back.
Jason is hail. the rain is beautiful. itâs a breathtaking storm: impressive thunder, streaking lightning, howling wind. the house shakes around you and the lights go out. the concussive sound of the rain on the roof is soothing, until it isnât. until it isnât rain, and the roof isnât whole. now, the storm is invading your home. the hail is punching its way into everything it can reach. car alarms spring to life outside; those who were watching in awe are now fleeing in terror. it only takes one hit, after allâone lucky piece of hailâto end a life.
Nico is an earthquake. the planet is ancient; the ground was old before you were here and it will be old after you go. itâs sturdy, and supportive, provides life and food and shelter. long ago, when the ground danced, when it shook itself free and sent cities tumbling to the ground, they called it the godsâ wrath. now, itâs called plate tectonics. no matter what it is, no matter why it happens, it is lethal and dangerous and uncaring of those it affects. nowhere is safe when the world turns on you, and if it decides you and your shelter should fall, you will.
Hazel is a sinkhole. the appearance of stability, of rock-solid ground and firm foundations. nothing is wrong, will ever be wrong, sheâs the rock that holds everyone up. and then that rock is gone, and youâre falling, down, down, downâyour home collapsing around you, your belongings claimed by the morbidly hungry earth. thereâs a light at the end of the tunnel, but is it sunlight, far, far above you? or is it magma, far far below?
[The Red Pyramid]
Horus: How many people do you have to kill for it to be illegal here?
Carter: One. One person.
Horus, sceptical: Really? Thatâs it?
A wip⌠dunno if iâll ever finish this but here be broken trio.
And yes, the mismatched socks are a thing. Luke couldnât get a matching pair, so they made do with what they had. Thalia thinks it gives Annabeth character, lol.

This post I made a while ago reminded me of that audio that's like "i'm not ur little girl anymore i'm 16 years old" and I thought Jason would 100% say that while Thalia looks at him and all she sees is a toddler
Also I have Thalia mismatched earrings and more defined arms bcs it suits her đŞđŞ
We all talk about how Rick's refusal to read his own source material ends up hurting his current portrayals of his characters, particularly with Percy, and how he talks about them, which is fine because he should be called out for that. But I don't think we talk about it enough when it comes to Annabeth. Because I still have not forgiven that man for, when the show had the Medusa scene, he went "Oh, some creatives and I were talking about how could she [Annabeth] be a child of Athena and NOT figure out it was Medusa?" Sir, you literally wrote that the reason behind it was because she was UNDER A SPELL! Neither her nor Percy were aware in the beginning because they were tired and drained on top of being lured in. Don't disrespect my girl Annabeth like that, because once she regained composure, she was on it!

hey um. so sorry to tell you this, but op of that post plays toys kinda weird. yeah you should just block them, that's not how normal people play with toys
listen it's not that I think epic the musical is a perfect adaption of the odyssey but it was an impressive passion project that knew what it wanted to be and knew what people gravitated to in the original work and it put significant effort into conveying this through its unique medium and tone to the point that hundreds of other people felt compelled to put effort into their own artistic interpretations of that version of the story. and that's really cool! and yes I would be more critical if it was a 100 million dollar project made by a professional because what the fuck do you mean you're a world-famous director and you cut the my name is nobody scene are you goddamn serious

'Jesus Christ'. People seemed to use that phrase a lot, Jason noted. Having been raised in Camp Jupiter, he has little idea of what expressions were popular among mortals, nor why exactly that one was so widespread.
Word count: 1927
My thanks to @paddooo and @egg2k16 for that chat ages ago about Jason having no clue about Christianity <3

Jason screamed, shoved his spear right through the chimeraâs ribs, and felt the metallic smell in the air that meant his father was listening.Â
A lightning bolt flashed, electricity coursing through Jasonâs veins, through the spear and into the monster.
When the light had dissipated, the chimera was gone, left was a fang the size of Jasonâs forearm.
âFucking Christ!â
Jason jumped.
Behind him, standing with her eyes wide open was Gwen.
âThatâs one way of getting rid of an unwanted presence, huh?â She said with a grin. âThe lightning mightâve been a little extra, though.â
Jason nodded. Heâd felt his energy drop with his little trick, and now wanted nothing more than to sleep for a million years. It was the downside to the Lightning Method, as his friends called it, but heâd been told it was less tiring the longer he practised, and the older he got âand he was only nine after allâ.
âWhatâs a craisse?â
âA what?â Gwen put her arm around Jason, one hand under his armpit, keeping him upright and walking.
âA craisse,â Jason repeated. âYou just said it.â
He saw Gwenâs place some fifty yards away. They werenât officially his family, but heâd been looked after by her parents more times than he could count. Theyâd let him sleep off his exhaustion.
Gwen frowned. âCraisse? I only said⌠Oh, âChristâ you mean!â
Jason nodded drowsily. âYeah, sure, that.â
Gwen laughed. âYouâre really smashed, arenât you? Come on, then, you. Letâs get you to rest. Mamâs made some cacennau cri for when you wake up.â
Jason went with it, he was too tired to care. Besides, âFucking Christâ was probably less bizarre a phrase than that time Gwen had yelled, âFucking pickle in a pop-tartâ.
The air was knocked out of Jasonâs lungs when his back hit the wall behind the training mat.
âJesus, Iâm sorry!â
He stood shakily and stretched, cracking his back properly.
âThatâs all right,â he said.
Reyna looked skeptic, and a little shaken herself, as if she was afraid to have hurt him badly. âYou hit your head against a wall, Jason, youâre not all right.â
âIâve had worse,â he assured her. âNo worries, let me get some water and I want a rematch.â
That didnât completely smooth the worry lines in Reynaâs forehead, but she seemed to be certain he wouldnât die on her, at least.
âChrist, Jason!â She rolled her eyes. âYou wonât get better if you die of a concussion. Letâs take a break.â
There it was again, that word.
âWhere does that come from?â He asked.
Reyna looked at him. âThe worry? From the fact that you seem to want to destroy yourself out of social pressure when youâre only fourteen, I think.â
It was Jasonâs turn to look unamused. âNo, that word.â
âI said many words.â
Jason guessed she wasnât in the right mood for questions. He just shrugged and accepted the water she was handing to him.
Jason was enjoying a short break, sitting by the Argoâs mast, eyes closed, listening to the wind, the birds, and, every so often, one of his crewmatesâ voices calling for something in the background.
He felt, rather than saw, Percy slump next to him.
He turned to see a giant bruise on his cousinâs temple.
He mustâve made a face, for Percy huffed. âYou donât look too good yourself, yâknow?â
Jason smiled, if a bit warily. âNot our proudest moment.â
âNo shit.â
They remained quiet for a bit, but Jason felt the tension in Percyâs arm next to his.Â
âWhat is it?âÂ
Percy let out a long breath, slouching forward as if deflating. He looked around, as if trying to avoid being overheard.Â
âFuckinâ Christ, Jason, it hasnât been a week and weâve already tried killing each other. Weâre already suspecting everybodyâs motives, weâve⌠I donât know, it doesnât feel like itâs going well. Iâm just tired.â
Jason didnât have the heart to disagree. âWhatever happens will happen. Weâll work on getting along, all of us. Weâll learn to fight together.â
âI sure hope so.â Percy leaned back on the mast. He didnât look at ease, but he seemed to be a bit relieved, as if getting that off his chest had helped his blood pressure levels.
After a minute, Jason wondered: âThat phrase, âChristâ... where does it come from?â
Percy turned his head towards him slowly.Â
â...From Jesus,â he muttered, as if he wasnât sure Jason was messing around with him. Seeing his perplexed expression, he added. âJesus Christ. Yâknow, heâs possibly the best knownâŚâ He tilted his head, as if considering his next words. â...demigod to ever exist.â
It wasnât that Jason hadnât considered that before. People used that expression a lot, and heâd even met some demigods called JesĂşs. Since heâd also met a couple of Ulises, and even children named after gods, heâd arrived at the conclusion that Jesus mustâve left a mark.
It did irk him that people were wary about the guy in Camp Jupiter, as if he was a taboo.
All the same, Percy was staring at him as if heâd sprouted two hydra heads, so he just nodded and got up. He had first watch that night, and heâd rather have some dinner before his turn.
It was hard to ignore the lump in his throat when he thought about Leo. Theyâd searched everywhere. Everywhere in Camp, everywhere around, everywhere they could think of! They had even called a boon or two with the gods âtheyâd managed minimum communication, now that their godly worries were over, the great big⌠No, Jason needed to breatheâ, yet, no Leo.
The only thing left of his friend âand Jason had the inappropriate urge to laughâ was a massive crater below the spot where Gaea had exploded, or whatever it was she had done. Trust Leo to go out in an unforgettable blast strong enough to leave a hole, like it was a meteorite hitting the Earth, or something.
Despite consciously trying to avoid the place, Jason tended to stray towards the edge of the crater when he wasnât paying attention.Â
He felt his eyes sting with unshed tears, and was content to give himself a few minutes to cry until he heard somebody behind him.
âJesus fucking Christ,â said Nico, his eyes wide, watching the crater. âThat was from the blast?â
Jason was about to retort that how had he not seen this before, when he remembered theyâd kept his cousin doing extra hours with the funeral rites, and in the infirmary.
Reyna was right behind Nico, when she saw Jason, she took a couple of steps closer to him and put a hand on his arm âcrying was not appreciated in Camp Jupiter, but if anybody knew when Jason was about to crack, it had to be Reynaâ.
Jason sniffed snot back up his nose, elegance be damned.
âI never found out,â he said, looking at Nico, who looked notably better than the last time Jason had laid eyes on him. âThat phraseâŚâ
Nico seemed confused. Perhaps it was a line heâd picked up without quite knowing what it meant. Jason had heard Percy say that a million times in their quest.
âJesus?â Reyna asked. âJesus Christ?â
Jason nodded. âYeah, that.â
To say both his companions were bemused was an understatement.
âDo you not know whoâŚ?â Nico began. âHow the hell do you not know who Jesus is? Your people killed him! It was⌠I mean, it was a big thing that happened!â
âOh, yeah, no, I know he was a demigod,â Jason said. It didnât quite sound like a Greek name, so heâd assumed the guy had been posterior, but who was he to judge? âWas he, like, one of those Egyptians in Cleopatraâs court, orâŚ?â
Reyna snorted.Â
Nico appeared to be overwhelmed by Jasonâs stupidity. He cleared his face. âNo, he was one of Odysseusâ pals.â
Jason frowned. âOdysseus was before my people.â
âHeâs joking.â Reyna made a face at Nico, who shrugged.
âI suppose you could say heâs a demigod,â Nico said. âWell, was, then the Romans decided he was a bit too popular, and they crucified him.â
âAh, yes,â Jason winced. âRome did crucify some of its enemies.â
âThis one was surprisingly memorable.â Nico nodded, his lips twitching.
It was very annoying to be condescended by a runt who didnât reach his shoulders, but Jason didnât have the energy to snap at him.
âJesus is Christianityâs main character, Jason,â Reyna explained. âChristiansâ Achilles.â
Oh, that explained things. He knew Christians were a thing, Gwen had a phase in which she made fun of Mormons often, but he never considered a demigod couldâve been mixed up into it.
Nico scoffed. âScusame, but Jesus was way less whinny than Achilles!â
âI know, I only mean that heâs the most well known figure.â
Evidently, Nico was still offended by the comparison. âIâd say being crucified and then walking it off is more impressive than being taken out by Paris of Troyâs shit aim!â
âHe did what?â Jason pressed.
âHe took down Achilles,â Reyna said. âYou know that, he never actually made it into Troy.â
âNot Paris, the Jesus guy!â
âHe resuscitated after heâŚâ Reyna took a deep breath and ran a hand over her face. âJason, how have you reached this point in your life without knowing who Jesus was?â
Jason shrugged. âNot many Christians in Camp Jupiter, evidently. And everybody treats that religion as if my father would come down to blast us all if itâs so much as mentioned!â
âFair enough,â Nico said. âJesus did sort of destroy polytheism in the West. Or, cioè, his legacy did.â
Jason frowned. âSounds lovelyâŚâ
âHe walked on water, multiplied bread and fish, turned water into wine,â Reyna explained. âHe was Godâs kid âcapital G Godâ and after he died, his dad didnât want full custody andââ
âThatâs not how it went!â Nico interrupted, he looked mildly miffed with Reynaâs words. âHe went around telling people about capital G God, the Romans were angry, they killed him, he took a weekend off, and then came back and scared the absolute shit out of Ponzio Pilato.â
âAnd because of that, now Catholics feel guilty,â Reyna gave Nico a pointed look, âand David Bisbal sings about Mary.â
âYou made me listen to that song,â Nico said. âThat song is not about Virgin Mary. Itâs heresy.â
âWas she like a Hunter?â Jason asked.
âNo, she was Jesusâ mother.â Nico waved his hand impatiently.
âBut you just called her aââ
âYeah, I know.â Nico considered it for a second. âItâs a long story.â
Reyna let out an uncharacteristic giggle. âI canât believe you donât know any of this.â
âGuess Iâll just burn in hell, then.â Jason crossed his arms. It still peeved him a bit to be the center of their joke. It wasnât his fault Camp Jupiter was afraid of a guy who got CPRed back to life. Hazel had done that! Whatâs more, he had died for like a minute, too, it wasnât such a big deal.
Nico studied Jason for several seconds. Then, he took a necklace from under his shirt. It had beads in intervals and a little cross on a bit of string âwith even more beads!â hanging from the main circle.
âHere,â he said handing it over to Jason. âDonât worry, Iâll pray for your eternal soul. Let the many years of catechismo I did count for something.â
Heâd just stick to the Roman side of things, Jason thought, holding Nicoâs peculiar necklace.
