dreamsharing buddie was born out of two things: my longstanding adoration of dreamsharing as a trope in general, and also some intense bafflement that i did not, in my initial speedrun through years of buddie fic during my (re)watch-and-lurk era, really find much evidence of "buck gets weird post-coma powers besides the math thing" as a trope? which may just be because i missed the window when that was timely, or because nothing caught the eye of the owners of various bookmark pages i was mining, but i still think it's an underutilized window of opportunity!

so the premise is really that: buck wakes up from the coma. he has his run of being a math genius (i couldn't give up poker date ok). the math fades. and he starts having a lot of dreams. about eddie. realistic ones, where they keep getting closer, and talk a lot, and it brings up a lot of feelings. and of course, he doesn't realize that... oh. eddie is actually IN those dreams.

the question of this one, and probably why i haven't converted it to a true WIP yet, is that i am not sure quite where I want the story to diverge from the canon plot yet? there's the quick divergence, where i go full AU quickly and explore how the end of s6 would change with their shared dreams escalating their relationship really quickly, or the more long term, slow burn version where the dreams start after the coma but it takes until buck comes out in his bi arc for things to start getting messy (and sexy).

Which rolls into – he defiantly offered up to Eddie, back when they were getting to know each other. More than once. They'd get two beers in and Buck'd be all "Eh? How about this time?" And Eddie was always “Ha ha thanks but no thanks, pal 😄” Which is why Buck is so certain that Eddie is straight. Because he turned down a few beej’s seven years ago. It’s not like anything’s changed (he even said so!) It’s not like Eddie’s still thinking about it, all this time later, what if he had said okay, what could be different. Probably nothing. Probably, it would have taken them longer to become best friends. So like, no way he regrets it. Nope. Ha ha. 😄

Eddie scrambles to his feet and rushes to the door, casting a furtive look into the dispatch hallway to make sure no one is paying attention before he quickly shuts it. The immediate danger addressed, he storms back to his desk chair and snatches his phone up. His radio crackles low in the background as someone tabs into the channel, only to say nothing and silence relapses; Eddie uses the free moment to respond to his idiot friend, turned all the way around so there is no clear view from the now-closed door to his phone screen. On which there is yet another picture of Buck’s dick. Eddie: BUCK!!! What the HELL I’M AT WORK RIGHT NOW. Buck: yeah and you said you’re in your office I checked first??? 🤔 Eddie: That is NOT what anyone on this planet considers “checking first” bud Buck: okay okay fine i’ll be more explicit next time At that, Eddie has to set his phone down for a moment just to press his face into his hands. His cheeks feel burning hot to the touch. Clearly his mental state is still dogshit, because there's no other explanation for the way Buck's overtly terrible joke sends his brain to static, his thoughts twisting into knots.

“Oh my god,” Buck says, voice laden with intense relief. “I can finally look at your ass again.” Eddie startles into laughter. “Again?” He shakes his head in amused disbelief. “Do I want to— What exactly was the timeline here?” “Don’t worry about it,” Buck says swiftly. “What was that earlier—? Right, I, uh, plead the fifth too.”

🪐 ⇢ name three good things going on in your life right now

1. I’ve been really enjoying the gym and physical activity again lately, which is nice to get back to after it tapered off at the end of 2025! I’m kinda putting it off til the last minute but I’m probably going to run a 5k event at the end of the month. 2. I am finally going to the Franklin Institute for the first time this weekend, which is a little silly given how long I’ve lived out here but still. I’m looking forward to it! 3. I feel like I’m finally coming out the other side of the creative funk I’ve been in lately, and I’m sure the sudden turn in weather and sunshine can be blamed, but it's nice to just. have casual fun imagination time again!

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

This is very much targeted toward like, fanfic and fun creativity vs. anything requiring timelines or discipline, but: fallow periods are okay! Lingering in the guilty feelings will just drain you further, so take time to engage with the things that spark your creativity. Read new books. Enjoy new experiences. Go do something exciting you’ve been putting off. And ultimately, just drop the barrier to creative re-entry? Maybe you’ve been accustomed to writing pages and pages, but that's not currently working, so just forget that. Shoot for 5 sentences. That's like a paragraph somewhere that maybe you can start to build a groove from. Can’t make that work on the WIP you wanted prioritize but you’re inspired for something else entirely? Go feed the whim. Better to be creative about something you’re excited about than put it off bc you're "supposed" to be writing something else and then lose that excitement momentum anyway. On the flip side, if that doesn't work for you, then my other advice is like, on the opposite extreme: go join a fic gift exchange where you have to knock something out with a deadline attached and high expectations to deliver something a stranger will like. That always gets my juices flowing!

He does his best to emphasize the sheer absurdity of it all into his voice, if only to stave off the quiet pang of anxiety that still threatens to creep up underneath if he thinks about it too closely. “Dude. I don’t think we’ve ever eaten anywhere together that actually uses real tablecloths before.”

It is then revealed that, yes, when Chris was with his grandparents, Eddie had changed things so they would get legal guardianship in the event, because that's what Chris wanted (and maybe because he didn't want to leave Buck in a situation where he thinks Eddie's wishes would still be to fight for his son when his son is right where he wants to be, thank you).

But then, a canon-accurate number of months ago, Eddie changed it back. When things were already weird and strained, where it felt like they couldn't have a real conversation, hell, when it felt like they could barely sustain eye contact, Eddie still chose Buck. After everything, it's still Buck.

Is that the kind of thing a lawyer can talk about? Most certainly not. But who cares; shower thoughts. ~jazz hands~

SCREAMS zinny you’re killing me

it makes me so sad because i have no doubt this question crossed Eddie’s mind about what he should do as he was arranging the necessary Temporary Guardianship paperwork that would have allowed his parents to handle education and medical care for Chris while he was in Texas and he was still in LA. just the absolutely soul-crushing doubt in his own judgment as a parent for Eddie to even reconsider whether Buck was the right call, because he’s what Eddie wants for Chris, but. he’s so afraid of hurting Chris and neglecting his wants again.
