Femslash Review Fest 2018 Day 9
Damask Roses (3039 words) by NaomiK Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein, Rose Under Fire - Elizabeth Wein Rating: Not Rated Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Julie Beaufort-Stuart/Maddie Brodatt Characters: Julie Beaufort-Stuart, Maddie Brodatt, Jamie Beaufort-Stuart Summary:
Both Maddie and Julie said theyâd never been together at Craig Castle. Jamie knows that isnât true.
Notes: Set post-canon, with all the feelings that come from that. This fic is beautiful and sad, but in a way that also feels like a celebration of life. Itâs bittersweet, acknowledging how the people who are alive have to keep going: Fly the plane, Maddie. Maddieâs relationship with Jamie is also warm and touching. The ending of the fic made me tear up.

28th - One of your own fanworks With the Stars in the Darkness, and Love in the Light (2856 words) by Zdenka Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Goldberry/Haleth (Tolkien), Goldberry/Nellas (Tolkien), Haleth/Original Female Character Characters: Goldberry (Tolkien), Haleth (Tolkien), Nellas (Tolkien), Original Female Character(s), NiĂ«nor NĂniel Additional Tags: Folklore, Poetry, frame story Summary:
At Nienorâs request, the women of Brethil share stories and songs about Haleth, the riverâs daughter, and those they loved.
Notes: Iâm kinda proud of the poetry, to be honest.
Femslash Review Fest 2018 Day 8
Fee of Passage (2754 words) by Elleth Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien, TOLKIEN J. R. R. - Works & Related Fandoms Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Gilmith/Uinen, Tar-MĂriel/Uinen Characters: Gilmith (Tolkien), Uinen (Tolkien) Additional Tags: Dreams, Mortality and Immortality, Half-Elves, Mommy Issues Series: Part 4 of The Queen and the Lily Summary:
Struggling with the burden of her mortality, Gilmith reaches out to an unlikely savior.
Notes: This story is beautiful and intense. I like how it shows Gilmithâs restlessness and longing, and how she keeps coming back to the sea both in dreams and in waking life. Uinen is wonderfully inhuman and a little terrifying. The vision of her in sea-foam and pearls is just lovely. And I love the ending, which harks back to the beginning of the fic in a very satisfying way.

Femslash Review Fest - Day 4
A fic for your OTP.
Going back to an old but good anime ship! I can ship Utena and Anthy with other people, but I donât want them to end up with anyone but each other.
Title: Forever doesnât end (but it changes) Author: tofsla Fandom/Pairing: Revolutionary Girl Utena; Utena/Anthy Summary: Anthy knows the script. Utena doesnât. Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No AO3 archive warnings apply Submitter Notes: I really love this. It feels true to the artificial, cyclical nature of Ohtoriâs world. Anthyâs resignation and ambivalence, the way she doesnât want to let herself feel hope or love, are painful in the best way.
***
Title: Awakening Author: Stealth_Noodle Fandom/Pairing: Revolutionary Girl Utena; Utena/Anthy Summary: When she opens her eyes, she sees the sky. Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No AO3 archive warnings apply Submitter Notes: Fic where Anthy and Utena find each other again after the end of the series is one of my favorite things. This one is beautiful and moving. I like how it emphasizes the strangeness of resuming a life outside Ohtori after spending so long in the illusion.

Title: Untangled Author: emilyenrose Fandom/Pairing: Revolutionary Girl Utena; Utena/Anthy Summary: âRapunzel is lost to you. You will never see her again.â The kingâs son was beside himself with pain, and in his despair he leapt down from the tower. He escaped with his life, but the thorns into which he fell pierced his eyes.
Anthy searches the world for Utena Tenjou.
Rating: Teens Warnings: No AO3 archive warnings apply; referenced underage rape and incest Submitter Notes: Another post-series fic. As opposed to the fic above which is more sudden, this is a fic that slowly grows. Anthy and Utena meet again, but Utena doesnât remember Anthy or anything that happened. I really like how Anthy starts rebuilding her own life before finding Utena, and how Utena once again becomes the catalyst for change in Anthyâs life. I love the emotions when Anthy is longing for Utena to remember her but trying to resign herself to never having her back completely. The happy ending feels earned.
ANYTHING YOU WISH! (FOR DAY 14)
Title:Â She Soon Shall Love
Author:Â Â Zdenka
Fandom/Pairing:Â Classical Greece and Rome History & Literature RPF (Anaktoria/Sappho)
Summary:Â The courtship and love of Sappho and Anaktoria, as told in poetry.
Rating:Â Teen
Warnings:Â No Archive Warnings Apply
Submitter Notes:Â These poems show how really well Zdenka knows Sappho. She is able both to tune into her imagery, expressions and emotions and use that ability to shape a narrative arc of a particular relationship (something that the surviving fragments of Sapphoâs poetry do not offer us, although they set us guessing). It is sensitively done and moving. (Not to mention the skill with which Zdenka handles the Sapphic stanza.)
Femslash Review Fest - Day 5 & Day 6
A fic for a crack ship/rare pair.
Title: Haleth and Ioreth, Alive Author: bunn Fandom/Pairing: Silmarillion; Haleth/OFC Summary: When day came, bringing a brief respite, Haleth took her fatherâs armour. Ioreth took her brotherâs. No need for speeches from Haleth, who might well be the last leader of the Haladin. Everyone knew that the only hope was to hold on. And they fought on: Haleth and Ioreth, sword in hand, and very little hope. Rating: General Audiences Warnings: Canonical character death, canon-typical violence Submitter Notes: Thereâs a sense of immediacy in this fic, what it feels like to be trapped in the stockade in such desperate circumstances. I love how human Haleth is here: exhausted and starving and filthy, but utterly determined and fiercely holding on to life and love. It feels right that to Haleth, her mortal lover is more beautiful than all the shining-eyed elves.

A fic published more than a year ago. (also a rarepair)
Title: The Shadow Queen Author: kalypsobean Fandom/Pairing: Silmarillion; LĂșthien/Thuringwethil Summary: They say Huan fell in love with LĂșthien TinĂșviel within an hour of meeting her; for me it did not take even that long, for I loved her before I met her and I served her even after she died. Rating: Not Rated Warnings: Canonical character death Submitter Notes: Itâs an intriguing idea, and I like the thought that LĂșthien could also free some of Sauronâs creatures as part of the ârelease from bondage.â There are some striking images, such as when LĂșthien appears on the bridge of Tol-in-Gaurhoth after casting down the walls. I love Thuringwethilâs devotion and the way LĂșthienâs presence completely overpowers her. I also like the idea that Thuringwethil could have given her help voluntarily. The ending is just beautiful.
