"Why do I always ought to practice what I preach," breathed Severus as they had just finished their second lap around the school ground. To his surprise he hadbeen able to  keep up with Ellington for a while, before he felt his lungs stinging.

"I know I'm pushing my wheel of luck over here, but care for another round?" she beamed at him, hopping on her feet to stay active. "Woman, where do you get the energy from?"

"C'mon," she gently dragged him along with her, but not before she handed him a hairtie. He looked at it, as if it were a turd.

"Severus, i'll make your life so much easier." Severus eventually put his hair in a ponytail, slighlty relieved that his hair wasn't sticking to his face anymore. He was sweating like a horse, his legs were trembling from the running.

"One last round then." he obliged, following her quickly.

Ellington started to small talk to him, slowing her pace down to a fast jog, so he could keep up with her. "So, how do you feel?" she smiled.

"I'm transforming, vibrating, glowing,.. Couldn't be any better." he sarcacasticly replied, "Really?"

"No I'm burning inside, I reek of sweat and alcohol and everything clings to my body. I have never felt more disgusting."

Ellington laughed deeply, "I never said you had to wear long black clothes to run either…"

"Shut up."

"Next time you can borrow some of my older brother's stuff, it'll fit you nicely."

"Next Time?!" Severus came to a halt.

"Severus, you have to admit that this is doing you good, you'll see after you have showerd. Excercise is good for hormones and your brains."

He simply huffed and started running again, this time very fast, as he was trying to outrun the witch, much to her pleasure as she started to run after him and quickly caught up again.

"Next time, I'll win." he grinned when he laid on the ground.

"Here," she offred him a bottle of water, "Now go shower you sweaty man," she turned around and started for another lap.

"Thank you Ellington." she heard him say behind her.

Finally, she thought, progress.

It was Saturday evening, Ellington was waiting in her fine dining clothes outside the Slytherin common room, determined to walk with Severus to their dinner with Slughorn, while trying to explain herself and making it up to him. At 8 o'clock he exited his common room, looking at Ellington with a blank expression, "What?" he huffed. "Give me 5 minutes and I'll explain myself." To her surprise he nodded and started walking down the hall, motioning for her to follow.

"I am sorry I didn't do anything that day, that wasn't okay I Should've stepped in, but I couldn't. I couldn't move, I don't know why, but know that if could I would have  immediately. I even promise to you, that from now on, I'll always step in if anything occurs." Severus halted at the corner of their destination, he looked her up and down, looking for an indication that she was lying, or simply playing a prank on him. He didn't find anything, somewhat relieved he nodded again. Ellington let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding in, Severus looked around the corner nevously.

"Severus, everything will be fine, Lily isn't coming, she felt a bit ill. So do not worry." he nodded again at her holding out his arm. She gladly took it and they entered the dinner room. ____

"I already got the abattoir blues," he whispered to her when they sat down at the round table, Slughorn  greeted them kindly and so did the others. Soft jazz music was playing in the background and candles where flying above their heads. She giggled lightly at his comment, "Lighten up, buttercup, didn't you know that there is wine here?" she pointed at their glasses. "As in Alcoholic grape juice?" he asked. "You bet your ass, why do you think people keep coming here?" she whispered. Severus smiled, "Oh, let's have some fun then Sprout. One sip everytime he flirts with a girl, one sip each time he directs the conversations to boost his ego." he grinned at her, not knowing what had gotten into him, he knew for a fact that he couldn't handle his liquor. He felt more at ease now, after Ellington had apologised, he had seen that she meant it, which meant a great deal for him. Altough he trusted her, he was still determined to keep his walls up, just to avoid any harm she could possibly do to him.

When dessert finally came, she and Severus where slightly drunk, but no one seemed to notice because everyone else was engaged in their own conversations. "Have you noticed that David has been eying you all night?" slurred Severus. "Yes, I'm trying to ignore him, so he won't come up here." "Why not? He's a good looking lad. I suppose, he has women swooning over him." "He's just not my type." Severus dropped the subject, sensing that Ellington had become tense.

After their dessert, the students moved to the couches, David moved aside for Ellington, so she could sit beside him, but she ignored him and sat down next to Severus, their legs nearly touching. Severus couldn't help but feel his ego rise, a beautiful Gryffindor had just chosen him instead of some ravenclaw quidditch captain. Yes he deemed her beautiful, because when he was being honest, she really was to him, altough he would never admit that to her. Maybe it was just the alcohol talking.

"Elli, dear, why are you avoiding me?" David purred when he shuffled closer to them. Ellington's ears perked up, she rolled her eyes and looked at him, "Pardon?" "You heard me darling. Slide on over here, let me give you a squeeze." he slimely lift his eyebrows. Severus couldn't believe the nerve of this guy, why did he think talking to a lady in that way was okay?

"Eggerton, please, I have one question for you." Snape looked at Ellington in anticipation, awaiting what came next. David laid his arm on her shoulder, which caused Severus to feel slightly jealous. "Anything, babe." he smiled. "Is it ever jealous?" she smiled at him. "What is jealous?" "You buttocks, I mean, is it ever jealous of your mouth? I mean with all the bullshit coming from there…" David's face changed as if he had been hit in his stomach, several people were snickering, including Severus, who could barely contain himself. "That's what I thought. Learn to speak with manners to a woman, before you try again." Then she stood up from and greeted everyone. "Sorry to leave so early, but I promised Severus that we'd go running in the morning, so… Bye." then she janked Severus with her and ran into the hall. When they were far enough from the dinner they burst out laughing. Their backs against the walls, when they finally caught their breaths again Severus spoke. "Shall we leave this place now, dear?" he asked her silently, mocking David's words. "Oh god yes, maybe a round or two around the castle and then to the dormotories?" Severus nodded. ____ "Why on earth would I go training with you?" "Because you need it, don't even fight me on this Severus." "I'm perfectly healthy the way I am. Thank you very much." he stalked away, but failed miserably, due to the alcohol. Before he fell down, Ellington quickly scooped him up, suprising him with her strenght and quickness.   Ellington on the other hand couldn't help  but notice how thin he was and how light he felt. They awkwardly stood there, in the middle of the hall, not sure what to do next.

"Severus, please do come running with me tomorrow, we'll go before breakfast, no one will see you." "You aren't going to give me another choice are you?" he stood upright, but didn't move further from her. "No, Severus. I actually want you to feel healthier, you know what they say, healthy body healthy mind." "What do you care?" "I just do, now go to sleep, I'll see you at 7 am." She lightly squeezed his hand and then left him standing in the hallway.

His body felt weirdly empty now that she was gone, surely he hadn't ever met someone who caught him when he was falling. It was when she had held him so close to her, that he felt his heart pounding, not sure why. She said she cared about him, did she intentionally hold him that way? Or did she intentionally touch his hands, sat next to him… Don't be so daft Severus, you are drunk he scolded himself. Although he couldn't deny that his heart was still pounding and his mind was racing.

"Elli, can we talk for a moment?" asked Lily, Ellington nodded and followed her friend up to their dorm. "Spill the beans, Lils," Ellington jumped on her bed. "What is this between you and Severus?" "What do you mean?" "I've noticed that you're hanging out with him," "I'm just trying to befriend him, do you have any problems with that Lils?" Lily sighed and tucked a red strand of hair behind her ear, "No it's just that, I miss him." "Then go talk to him! He would love to talk to you again. Believe me." "I'm not sure, he has hurt me." "Lils, I'm sorry to say this, but you weren't much of a good friend either. You knew he had a dying crush on you ever since first year. And you just led him on." Lily looked at her feet, knowing that her friend was absolutely right, "But I'm not sure if he'll accept that I only want to be friends, nothing more." "You can Always try, if he doesn't want that, then that's his loss. But I highly doubt it." Ellington rubbed her shoulder. Lily smiled, "I suppose you are right, I'll try to talk to him this week, but do tell me more about your friendship. James and Sirius have been nagging my ears of to know more." Ellington rolled her eyes, "Lils, I just noticed how lonely he looked, so now I'm trying to make him feel better. I just don't want him to think there aren't any options for him you know…" "What are you getting at?" "With the rising of the Dark Lord, I just don't want him to meddle with the wrong people." "Oh, yes. That's very kind of you. But be careful, If  you notice that he's becoming attached to you, as he did to me, and you don't feel the same way, then please don't lead him on. I don't think he can bare to have his heart broken twice." Elllington simply nodded and than left the room, getting ready for her studysession at the library. _____

The library was packed with students, since it was still the finals season, she noticed an empty table and quickly walked over there. When she had placed all her parchment and quills on the table she noticed  that Lily had caught up with her, taking place at her table. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Severus sulking back in his seat. Ellington motioned for him to come sit with them, he nodded at Lily, questioning what he should do about her. It'll be okay, Ellington mouthed. Severus nodded, gathered his study equipment and came towards them. "May I?" he asked, looking at Lily with trembeling voice. Lily looked up at him and smiled, she nodded and made place for him, but to her surprise he sat down next to Ellington. Lily looked at Ellington as if she had seen a flobberwom doing a breakdance. Ellington just shrugged. After at least two hours of studying on their Thursday night, Lily decided it was time for her to talk to Severus, so she ripped a piece of parchment and  wrote:

'Sorry about leading you on for such  a long time, I haven't been a good friend. I'm also sorry for not defending you Severus, can we please be friends again?'

And passed it quietly to his side, he fumbled with the paper, his hair as a curtain hiding his face. Both Ellington and Lily were anticpating his answer, when he finally wrote on the back:

'It is okay Lily, I am very sorry too. I would really like to be friends again. As for leading me on, don't worry about it, I have moved on.'

Lily read and wrote back, trying to get more answers of this mysterious man.

'So you are over me then? No more feelings?'

Ellington had to grin to herself, it almost sounded as if Lily was dissapointed, she probably had expected for Severus to still have a crush on her.

'What can I say, You were a catch, we were a match, I tried to fire up your snatch, but there was a catch. I was no match for you. So yes, Lily I have moved on, and so Should you.' he added, it had not escaped his notice that Ellington was smiling, probably because of his use of words. Somehow he had known that she would've laughed at that, after all that was something Ellington would say. What are you doing Severus, you shouldn't care what she's thinking. But you do. He thought to himself.

After Lily had read the last note she had gasped, looked at Ellington, as if knowing that Severus only said it that way because Ellington was rubbing off on him. She looked at her best friend innocently, still stiffling her laughter. Lily smiled at her and said she was returning to the Gryffindor common room.

When Lily finally left, Severus let out a deep breath, getting attention from Ellington. "Thank you." he whispered to her, Ellington turned to him, slightly startled from his proximity, by know she knew that he had no sense of personal space whatsoever, so she just slightly moved back. "For what?" "For talking to Lily, I feel as if I am free again." he looked at his desk, avoiding her eyes. "Free?" "Free as in not in captivity." he declared, a slight smirk forming at his lips. Ellington smacked his arm. "Asshole." she replied, but she shifted a bit closer to him, touching his leg with her, just to let him know that she was only joking. She looked back at her parchment and books and got back to her work, failing to notice that Severus couldn't concentrate anymore, due to the warmth of their legs touching and that simple act of kindness. Dear Lord, what was this woman doing to him.

"On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man, in a dusty black coat with a red right hand," hummed Ellington while Severus Snape entered the potions lab, 

"What did you just say to me?" he spoke quitely, trying not to draw much attention. She looked up at him with her shimmering grey eyes. "You heard me."

"My coat isn't that dusty, nor is my hand red. Tall sure, handsome? Not so much." "You sure 'bout the hand part?" Severus gritted his teeth, not sure what she was getting at. "You, sir, have been looking at Lily and me the whole morning! Care to explain that?" "It's none of your business." he snapped, sitting himself down quickly. Ellington opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by Prof. Slughorn, who wanted to start the class. "Today class you will be making a cleansing potion, the instructions are on the blackboard, work in pairs, the first team to finish gets a suprise." he chirped, indicating that everyone should commence.

"You'll get the ingredients, i'll get the cauldron and knives." ordered Severus, Ellington stood up straight and saluted him, "Yes, Sir!," Severus rolled his eyes at her, not sure why he was still coping her behaviour. She truly was annoying, irritation, stupid, naive… "Severus, you ought to do your part too." she smiled while she placed all the ingredients on their desk, Severus furrowed his brow, realising that he hadn't moved while insulting her in his mind. He scoffed and swiftly left her.

Ellington and Severus worked in silence after that, moving elegantly around each other to do their assigned tasks, Ellinton had to admit that she really liked working with Severus, somehow whenever they started on a project they always funtioned like a big machine. "I Believe we are ready." Severus sighed and sat down back on his stool, Ellington nodded and did so too,a fter calling for professor Slughorn to check on their potion.

Slughorn apporached them eagerly, smelling their potion and looking at the colour, "We have a winning team! Everyone can leave when their potion is finished. Sprout and Snape, you both are invited to my dinner sathurday night as a reward." Ellington smiled at the older wizard, Severus only looked at his shoes, clearly not happy with their gift. It was well known that Slughorn wanted them in his little Slugparty and to this day they had succesfully denied his request.

"Oh Severus, don't be so upset, we are only having dinner with his team, it won't be that bad." she patted his back while they were walking outside. Severus looked a her with a blank face, surely she had to know why didn't want to go, Lily was part of his team. He would have to look at her the whole night, while being ignored, not that she didn't have the right to do so. "Am I a  microscopic cog in a catastrophic plan of yours?" he suddenly held her against a wall, no one was around. He had to get his answers as to why she wanted to befriend him. Ellington was clearly taken aback by his actions, but didn't say anaything about it. "Severus, there is no plan, only good intentions." she pushed him away slightly, so she had more space, his long body still inches from hers, his face looking down at her. "Good intentions, Merlin's ass." he huffed, not taking a step back. "Why is it so hard for you to believe that I want to befriend you?" "Because you are one of them. I wouldn't see any reason for you to come near me." he hissed. "Well actually I do, I want to know why they hate you. They may be my bestfriends, but I won't participate in their hate crimes when it is not justified." Ellington still kept her calm, her grey eyes were getting stormy. "You know they are. Lily hates me, so should you." "Lily doens't hate you." "I've said horrible things." "And so did she, she should have stood up for her bestfriend when he was attacked, it still doens't excuses your behaviour, but this isn't all on you Severus." Severus grew angry now, feeling again what he had felt that day, "Then where were you?" He knew that she had been sitting a few trees away from his, only to be gone when everything was over. Ellington sighed, looking down, Severus finally stepped back and sneered, "That's what I thought. I have no single reason to trust you. Sprout." Than he turned around and stalked away.

Ellington knew that she should've stepped in that day, but she simply couldn't, she was glued to the ground only able to run away before the marauders had done their little act. Sure she had argued with them after they had done it, even ignored them for a while, she even ignored Lily for a while, but that was something Severus could've never know.
