Tal had slept in for once, which was a rarity considering how dialed in his internal clock was. But it was pleasantly interrupted as he felt his face be gently pulled to the side and felt the soft press of lips against his own.

Slowly opening his eyes, he woke up to find Lauren besides him, one hand cupping his cheek as the other brushed his blue locks out of his face. Sunlight washed over them, seeming to give them both a warm glow, making his own eyes appear like warm embers.

He gets that annoyed lil scrunch of his nose he does when he’s irritated by something but he’s far too patient to mention it. Use of “Johnny” on missions gets met with a short, sharp reprimand though because it’s just not professional to use nicknames on the airwaves. Not on his Comm lines anyway. Plus, if Scott calls him “Space Case” one more time while the GDF are listening in he’s going to set all the showers on Tracy Island to cold for a month. Father would sure have had some things to say about it if he were here… but he’s not so John’s just going to have to maintain some kind of semblance of sensibility in this organization or he’s going to go crazy. (Why did it have to be him who gets siblings who just love to wind him up? Honestly.)

He minds it a little less when it’s a soft, worried, “Johnny?” coming from one of his youngest brothers, when things have gotten rough on the job and he’s shaky and done and just wants to go home. He minds it a little less when he’s tired to the bone and Virgil’s fingers in his hair remind him of their Mother’s ones and there’s that warm, soft; “Ack, Johnny, how’d you even get this so tangled up here? That’s not like you.” He minds it a little less when Scott shucks his shoulder gently against John’s, full of warm camaraderie, and checks “Alright there Johnno?” when he knows his brother has been feeling space-sick.
