Pan-fried pork buns; aud9.80 (6 pieces) from the newly opened Yang’s Dumpling (officially opened on Monday 14/05/18) at Waterford Plaza in Karawara. Menu on @perthfoodmenu Part of a franchise originating from Shanghai, this is their third store in Australia and first in Western Australia. I first tried their signature Sheng Jian Bao 生煎包 (pork buns that are fried then steamed in a flat pan) when I visited Shanghai five years ago and it was the bomb. The buns at the Shanghai store were so good that we went back again twice during our trip. Fast forward five years later and it has landed in Perth! Was really excited and looking forward to try this. The queue overflowed past the store’s doors tonight and we queued for 20min to order. The food took a further 25-40 min to arrive after the order had been placed. Yep, come early or be prepared to wait. These pan-fried buns were filled with piping hot soup. The soup is much hotter than the average xiao long baos and you’ve got to be very careful to not burn your lips. Tip: Poke a hole in the bun and tilt the bun over to drain the soup onto your spoon. The dough skin of these buns are much thicker than normal dumplings and thankfully the base is crispy like the ones in Shanghai. However, unlike the ones I had in Shanghai where the whole bun was crispy, only the base of the bun is crispy here and the dough of the bun was a tad thicker in Perth. The soup is seasoned well and I dipped the buns in black vinegar coz that’s how I like to eat it. Chilli oil is provided as the other condiment. Definitely still room for improvement but it’s a good feed overall and I left feeling satisfied and happy to have this in Perth. Always good to have more choices in Perth’s bun/dumpling scene! #yangsdumpling #perth #chinese #waterfordplaza #karawara #panfriedbuns #小杨生煎 #生煎包 #shengjianbao #buns #perthfoodreview (at Yang’s Dumpling WA)
