August was the first one to nod off, sitting in one of the chairs. The book he had been reading now lay open on his lap, his hands barely grasping it.

Saerys was next, sinking into a chair when standing to brood (or whatever he was doing while staring into the flames) was too much effort.

Altea and Iseul were both sitting next to each other, near the fireplace. Mara wasn’t sure what either one of them were doing, but she hoped it wouldn’t prove too disastrous when they were done.

Meanwhile, Mara was helping Reiner with his paperwork, streamlining the process for him and sealing any missives. They had been alone for some time after dinner, chatting quietly when the retainers all came in as well. As they weren’t interrupting anything… important, Mara found it rather endearing that they’d spend the evening in each other’s company, even if they weren’t directly interacting.

We’re a regular old domestic family. All we need is a dog. Do they have dogs here? Can I have a dog? Shaking her head out of that tangent, she returned to sealing a few more letters. However, she couldn’t help but looking at the scene in front of her, her heart warming.

“They’re so cute when they’re asleep,” she murmured. “Reiner, look.”

He smiled at the scene as well. “More peaceful than it is during the waking hours, at least.”

She laughed softly. “I won’t argue there,” she agreed. “But it wouldn’t be home if it was quiet all the time. We’d go crazy.”

“I suppose it would,” he said, chuckling.

Those rough first weeks were worth it, cause it meant I got the best family in the world.

A vacation to Idaho where I spent most of it horribly sick and then had to drive 12 hours straight home but then that giant 30,000 acre wildfire in Cajon Pass made it a 14 hour drive, all while being deliriously sick....

Fun.
