Marquis can have been an objectively good father to Amy, but only if he's since been birdcaged and mostly lost that part of himself. Still an evil guy, but he killed it in both the stabbing independent heroes and fatherhood departments.
But a marquis that never got birdcaged? He's gotta have something wrong with him from the start. Still loves his daughter, but not a fantastic dad and Amy turns out a bit fucked up.
A not-birdcaged marquis that's a great dad would lead to a normal Amy, which I simply can't abide. Marquis' parenting abilities exist in a superposition where they're whatever makes the plot more interesting and his daughter more of a mess.
see the thing is. and its been said before. but i cant stand womfic because theres so little good wormfic. so much of it is creatively void “altpower taylor” when that like, misses the fundamental treatise of fanfiction, to me. why arent you writing about tattletale and logistics through the portal. why arent you writing about different chunks of the world and their buildup to GM/interactions with project terminus. the machine army is RIGHT there. why arent you writing about the triumvirate in their founding years. why arent you writing about contessa baking bread
A really stupid idea that popped into my head as I was pondering the "things go differently when Marquis is arrested" genre of fics:
"You wanted something?" Ellen asked as she entered the cellblock leader's "office"; a cell with two chairs and a desk, all made from a bone-like substance.
Amelia Lavere looked up from the paperback novel she'd been reading. "Bakuda! Yes. Sit, please."
Ellen did so, warily. She hadn't had time to build even the most rudimentary bomb yet, and the Marquis of Brockton had been a notorious killer back in the day, or so she'd heard from the old timers in the ABB.
"You're from Brockton Bay, aren't you?" Amelia asked.
"I'm from fahckin Boston."
"Ah, my mistake. But you were arrested in Brockton?"
"Yeah." Ellen grimaced. "I shoulda stayed in school, finished blowing it the fuck up."
"I speak with everyone who comes through here who might have news about Brockton. In doing so, I've learned some disturbing facts about a certain team of heroes. Tell me, what do you know about New Wave? About their newest member?"
Oh, so that's what this was about. She'd heard the rumors, everyone had. "He's adopted, right? The Dallons got him right around the time you got arrested."
"Exactly. Now," Amelia leaned forward conspiratorially, "I'm going to tell you something that will blow your mind."
Ellen scoffed. Her mind was *not* easily blown.
"I'm not Marquis," Amelia said. "I'm innocent."
"But you were arrested in Marquis' house."
"A classic case of mistaken identity."
Ellen eyed the teenager in front of her. "It *did* always strike me as a bit odd that the man who'd terrorized the Bay for a decade turned out to be a six-year-old girl..."
"Exactly!" Amelia slammed her palms against the table. "I was framed!"
"So who's the real Marquis?"
"Who else was in Marquis' house that night?"
"No!"
"Yes!" Amelia had a manic gleam in her eyes now. "The real Marquis...is my father, Marky Lavere. Well, Marky Dallon now. Didn't it ever strike you as odd that the Dallons would adopt a man their own age?"
"I thought it was an immigration thing or something..."
"He's not—" Amelia slammed her palms down again, "even—" and again, "French!" She rose to her feet, knocking over her chair as she yelled the final word. "Lavere is a made-up name! His family is from Illinois!"
what are your guys top 5 fav wormfics of all time? with a bit of explanation if you don't mind.
doesn't need to be in any particular order, just curious what wormblrians have read and enjoyed and also maybe get some recs out of it

There’s a worm fanfic on ao3 that’s “what if everyone at the bank fight died and got put in to a butcher situation” and it’s a good but one thing about it that I find funny as hell is that as part of the plot of what to do with these kids Aisha ends up having to live with/is adopted by the Dallon family
