ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - Expressing his frustrations on what he describes as a “complete lack of work ethic” in today’s job market, area businessman John Howie, 68 has spent the past week complaining about how nobody wants to work anymore, despite the fact that he’s the very reason that nobody wants to work anymore.

“I just don’t get it,” Howie said while sipping coffee in his office, which is fully equipped with a leather recliner and a flatscreen TV that gets HBO. “Back in my day, we would show up to work every single day and work hard until our shift was over. It didn’t even matter if we got paid that day — because the quality of our work meant more to us. But now, this younger generation will flat out refuse to work if the workplace is ‘toxic’ or if we don’t provide a ‘living wage.’ Like, give me a break!”

Former employees, however, paint a different story. “He would yell at us for taking our legally required breaks,” said one former employee who asked to remain anonymous. “He really expected us to work at all hours during our shifts, and would often force us to take overtime without any additional payment, threatening repercussions if we didn’t.”

This former employee was luckily able to escape Howie’s reign of terror after being offered a better paying job at a different company. Other employees, however, weren’t so lucky. Howie, however, claims that these claims are exaggerated.
