#witchcraft rant

I gave up on answering questions about my practice because, usually, people's "genuine" questions about how something i do in my practice works, turn into a "ha! Gotcha!" situations and arguments.

the open-endedness of witchcraft is really fascinating, especially with tumblr and how witches are able to catch glimpses of the practices of other witches. i know plenty of other witches use magic to manipulate the universe to benefit them, and i completely understand that appeal. witchcraft has and always been geared to empower people who feel they have little power, or to further strengthen the already strong. 

but that’s why i feel like my practice is almost explicitly used to improve myself. not just through spells to help me get along the way, but in the practice itself. i can motivate myself through witchcraft (e.g. if you get this important homework done, you can dick around with some magic!!) and through actually practicing, i can improve myself. studying/researching for my magic? improving my critical thinking and analysis skills. meditating/exercising/visualizing for a spell? improving my health or practices to take care of health. crafting things for my practice? encouraging creativity and imagination WHILE ALSO combatting my incessant fear of using things and actually forcing me to stop buying and start making. 

i think it’s really important for witches to take a step back and think about why they practice, or what their practice can benefit. that way, a witch can better learn about what they want to do with their craft and tweak it to better appeal to them. 

I’ve been thinking about making this post for quite some time - and of course, all that I’m going to say is obvious and has been said dozens of times, but I want to make sure people who stumble upon this blog know my opinion on this.

talk about boundaries and abuse thereof, blood magic, drugs, and a lot of rambling about responsibility under the cut.

Basically some rando was telling everyone how it’s “impossible” for a new witch to create a grimoire because “grimoires are only for tried and true magic” or whatever. “Don’t you DARE use your grimoire like a journal”. Real uppity shit. Like, what a lame outlook to have lmao. Imagine being elitist with what other witches do with their grimoires?? As if you’re ever gonna see them? LMAO. it’s so strange to me how people have so many rules for things that don’t effect them in the slightest.

If you’re a new witch/baby witch (whatever you like to be called), and you’ve seen that post or anything similar, block that person and keep doin’ you. No one can tell you what you’re capable of. And there’s no right or wrong way to create a grimoire 🙄 take it from someone who’s been around the block, these kind of things aren’t life and death in the grand scheme. They matter as much as you want to matter. Write yourself notes in your grimoire, edit it, change it, doodle! Sometimes witchcraft is trial and error, and if you want to record those trials and errors in your fancy book, go off.

this is the kind of shit that I loathe about these communities. I don’t understand why but for whatever reason a LOT of people with incredibly huge and equally fragile egos seem to be attracted to these spiritual communities. People really just be sayin the most asinine shit and other people take it as fact for some reason. Instead of giving good constructive advice for how to start a grimoire, they just turn on the snobbery and try to make people feel bad about their practice.

I am enraged at my native language once again. This language reminds me every single day why I love English so much.

IN MY NATIVE LANGUAGE ALL THE SABBATS DO NOT HAVE A PROPER TRANSLATION. And I don't mean a proper translation as in, you just say Litha or Samhain or Yule or anything.

The translations are literally all Christian events. Yule in my native language quite literally translates to Christmas, and because of how fkn complex our language is I cannot make up my own word because it wouldn't be possible to connect it to other words in a sentence. And while Yule isn't as bad, Samhain.

Samhain isn't even halloween. No. Because apparently in my country halloween is bad and satanic too (actually no idea if other countries have it like that too so meh). So it quite literally translates into "a celtic event". An event.

Litha pretty much the same as Samhain, Ostara Easter etc.
