La méchanceté latente
Qui a pris coeurs et esprits,
Prive le monde épris
D'une paix en attente.
The latent wickedness
That has taken hold of hearts and minds,
Deprives the world in love
Of a pending peace.

Pursuit of righteousness is part of following Jesus
In retirement, I have more reading time, and I’m so very thankful. I read nothing else each day until I have read from Scripture. I have done that now since, I think, COVID interrupted life. It’s not a brag; it’s a recognition that I need a God-centered lifeline before I get rolling each day. I need to tug on my anchor and know that it holds. Right now, I’m reading the Psalms — not my favorite…
The Curse of Pride: God’s Judgment on Assyria Served as a Warning to Egypt (Ezekiel 31)
Today’s Scripture reading is from Ezekiel 31-32. This Bible study is the first in a two-part series of devotionals. Ezekiel 31 continued God’s warning of judgment against Egypt, using the fall of ancient Assyria as a warning to “Pharaoh, king of Egypt” (Ezekiel 31:2). Ezekiel foretold that the fall of Assyria would serve as God’s warning to Egypt (Ezekiel 31:18a).
No Nation Can Stand When the LORD Is Against It. (Ezekiel 27)
Ezekiel’s prophecies concerning Tyrus continued in chapter 27, as the LORD revealed His imminent judgment on that great ancient city of trade and commerce. The LORD instructed Ezekiel to “take up a lamentation for Tyrus” (Ezekiel 27:2). Despite her wealth, might, and splendor, Tyrus would not be spared God’s judgment. The LORD pronounced judgment on Tyrus, and no man could save her.

Warning: God is Jealous of Israel! (Ezekiel 25)
Today’s Scripture reading is from Ezekiel 25. Ezekiel 25 introduces the third segment of our study of Ezekiel's prophecies, focusing primarily on Israel's adversaries, who are identified as the recipients of God’s judgment. Seeing the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, the heathen nations rejoiced in Judah's sorrows and sufferings, even as Judah was led into captivity.
Two Signs of Judgment: A Boiling Pot of Scum and Ezekiel’s Wife’s Death (Ezekiel 24)
Ezekiel 24 records a parable that the LORD commanded Ezekiel to teach to those living in Babylon. Ezekiel set a pot of water over a fire, put meat in it, brought it to a boil, and watched the scum float on the surface. Thus, the imminent judgment of Jerusalem by fire was represented. Ezekiel 24 also records the death of Ezekiel’s wife and reveals why the LORD commanded the prophet not to mourn her death.
A Case of Spiritual Adultery, Judgment, and A Promise of Salvation (Ezekiel 23)
In today’s Scripture reading, the LORD came to Ezekiel with a parable of two sisters and a mother (Ezekiel 23:2). The mother symbolized the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and the daughters represented the divided kingdoms (northern Israel and Judah). Chapter 23 declares the sins of both nations and God’s judgment. To what end did the LORD bring all this sorrow and suffering upon His people? Why does He bring sorrow and trials into our lives?
