Will comes out of nowhere, looks like heās not with them at all, placed in the very corner
the previous shot we have is Will at home
and the next scene after āthe ghostbusters core 4ā is also at home, preparing for trick or treating, where on the left we see X is a lie and on the right butterflygate (yes, itās those butterflies they have in Cali in s4, and the same Anna Baxter has in Tales!)
Iāve told you already what theyāre planning to do with VHS: my suspicion of that was evoked by exactly such framing. I found unexpected things, examining Willās locations in the shots, although I was thinking that the duffs were separating Will just visually and āpsychologicallyā, but then I saw their vhs ratio and it clicked.
but they will not just crop Will out of the corners!
Will has always been erased visually from the narrative!
āļøIt happens in the scenes from different POVs (which makes it possible for him personally communicate with his family or with Mike, but he doesnāt communicate with anyone anymore at all)
Even when Will participates, itās done the way you can cut him out, and nothing changes: look, Mike doesnāt call him by his name:
this line has always felt like no one heard Will, and now I understand why: bc no one did.
Then the duffs hide Will behind the core 3:
Then we move to school, and there we see only Lucas and Dustin interested in Max
After school itās again three of them on the bikes (Weāre still playing, btw! Whereās Will?)
Like I said, after the morning scene, next time we see Will is again at home, and then Jonathan takes him to the guys, we can hear Dustin calling āWill!ā from the distance, but we do not see Willās friends acknowledging him personally. Only Mike. Weāre gonna see not fully direct communication with Willās other friends, and I believe, how we see him depends on the POVs.

Mike says āI amā, again without mentioning Will (like when he said whoās Will without calling him Will in the morning)

I have NEVER understood why no one notices that the only thing wrong about 3 Musketeers is that there are 4 Musketeers! And obviously this is built around the task to make us question that.
But there are 3 Musketeers, bc Will is not there.

I hope you remember the rules, but in case you missed them: weāre looking for the shots where Will might be cropped out in the new vhs version of ST due to its 4x3 ratio (as it looks like Willās erasure was always part of the story) [ ig it can be considered as indirect birthdaygate ]

Letās look how it works in the beginning of s2:
Iām curious whether theyāll apply 4x3 only at its centre as I did it for the 1st pic, which shows how it can accurately crop Will out right away, or theyāll move it too as I did for the 2nd one, focusing on the way the shot would be looking balanced. As soon as vhs s2 will be dropped Iāll be so intrigued to see how they handled that and which approach they will use. (edit: they will move the shot)
Next thing we have is easily removable from the shot Willās back of the head: now itās very much there, but will it be in vhs?
and very distinct Will šthat wonāt be* cropped out, but he looks like heās not even in this shot; a different type of lighting was used on his image; that is something that also intrigues me bc they achieved it due to different things they applied (in the post about 2x04 you can see how it works with his costume having the shade of colour differing from the og ones that other friends have)
The next shot š is a score, it is Will who says how much Mad Max has got: but if they want, they can cut this phrase out, leaving just the picture and moving to the āthatās impossibleā line without losing the plot of the scene, meanwhile cropping Will out of the following shot š (here I assume that they can move 4x03 a bit to the right to balance it without Will)
Hereās Will hidden behind the core ā3ā, but he asks āIs that you?ā, and it can be easily edited out:
Hereās Will out of the shot and in the shot but again looking like heās watching from the outside:
Then he leaves the picture whatsoever for his vision, and yes, Mike will be the only one noticing (Iām omw of cooking a post about the reasons):
The next sequence we have is at school when the party is watching Max; Will says āgirls donāt do video gamesā, but look what happens if we cut this phrase out: absolutely nothing!
we need to crop a bit Mikeās āand even if they didā, to get the same dialogue! āThereās no way thatās Mad Maxā āYou canāt get 750k points on DDā.
To make it work even better they can make a close up out of the wide shot to crop Will out from it.
(Interestingly Will is the only one holding onto the fence with his both hands as heās the one trapped ā in Nina)
Or they can leave him there silent (with his lines cut), as the next 4x3š wonāt be merciful anyway (even the current ratio isnāt, what is this centring?)
it even looks more like his trapped hand is the prisoner and the 4th main character of the shot and Iād say that Mike is out of focus either, but ig for not the exactly same reasons, aside from technical ones, as they couldāve placed him at the same line they placed Lucas and Dustin, who, btw, hold onto the fence like Will does, but with just one handā¦ Ig, Iāll see where Iāll get me later.
and look, Willās lighting differs again, like heās again not from this specific shot! It even looks like he was cut from his own scene and added here:
(*remember the shot from the first scene where I said that they canāt really crop Will out, until he wasnāt even there? he looks like he is, butā¦ you know)
altho we see that the boys were filmed together, at least in some scenes? here are shadows:
but regardless of that, Iām really dying to know why Will looks like heās been edited into this scene

and finally the scene addressing him might be cut out, leaving the previous spying on Max finished right before the full scene ends:
Now, Iām not saying (and especially guaranteeing) that the scenes will be cut the way I assume they might be cut, the very least that is possible is Will being cut out of the shotsā edges by 4x3 vhs ratio
but as much as I analyse the way his image is treated in these episodes, I can not ignore all the other signals and the possibilities around the idea of his erasure and Iām deeply intrigued by the way they will handle it further!
