This photo was taken at Chartwell, the country house of Winston Churchill for many years. I was smitten with the gardens, whereas I wasn’t in love with the house which reminded me from the outside more of a fortress than a warm family home. Maybe it reflected in its masculine appearance the strong and unwavering personality of Winston Churchill. But back to the gardens. As you may know by now, I love gates, doors, and the likes in a garden setting. I think this gate is framed so nicely by the neatly clipped, square, light yellow evergreens placed by each side and the blue flowering clematis growing to the right and the wisteria to the left. The catmint to its feet is picking up the color of the clematis perfectly. The view through the gate opens up to another interesting garden scene. What to me looks like a brown grizzly bear marching through the plants, reminding me again of the strong presence of Winston Churchill, is actually a very beautiful acer. Do you think I have a little to much fantasy? Anyway, Chartwell is in the hands of the National Trust and open to the public. It is a “must-see” in my opinion if you are in Kent, as it is such a testimony to Winston Churchill, one of the most influential British politician of all times. . . . #chartwell #winstonchurchill #churchill #countryhouse #organicgardendreams #garden #publicgarden #nationaltrust #england #kent #westerham #gardengate #evergreens #clippedevergreens #yellowevergreens #clematis #blueclematis #catmint #bluecatmint #wisteria (at Chartwell - National Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsqP9P6lYDZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qmk5gbyumhzr
