@augustaeanā - plotted thing for Jacob!
The wind howled outside and Melody pulled the heavy blanket more firmly around her slim shoulders as she hunkered down on the worn couch. A fire crackled in the fireplace as she listened to the storm outside, but the flames were growing weak; sheād need to get more wood. Unfortunately, the petite blonde was still unaccustomed with living in the little cabin. Planning ahead when it came to firewood or supplies hadnāt become routine for her yet.
She was going to have to go outside to get more wood from the pile at the back of the cabin. The very idea made her shiver despite the fact that the cold didnāt affect her as easily anymore.
She wasnāt shivering because of the cold, but because of what lay outside the cabin. Sheād come to her uncleās cabin in the wilds of Montana in order to gain a better understanding of what was happening to her. She was trying desperately to learn to live with the changes that had consumed her, but she was terrified of herself. Terrified of what sheād become. Beyond the walls of the cabin lay a world that had her yearning to run wild, begging for her to hunt with the wild wolves stalking the forest.
She wasnāt a hunter, a killer. She was a healer! She didnāt want to be this monster sheād become!
A low whimper escaped her and she glared at the steadily dwindling flames. She couldnāt escape the inevitable and with a heavy sigh let the blanket fall from her shoulders.
Already she was warring against the new and confusing instincts within her as she stepped outside, the wind knocking the hood from her coat back. Snow clung to her hair, but the cold didnāt even come close to touching her. Snow crunching beneath her boots she moved around to the back of the cabin to collect as much firewood as she could carry.
With only a few logs in her grasp, the storm suddenly shifted and the wind died. Snow continued to fall, but it was now a lazy thing. Deciding to take advantage of the lull, Melody made several trips for firewood, but on her last trek outside of the cabin she got distracted.
In the distance a wolf howled and was soon followed by its pack joining the cry. The sound was haunting and beautiful, it pulled at her very soul and a low whine of want escaped her before she could swallow it down.
She felt torn as she stared in the direction of the call, unaware of the danger lurking nearby.
