There'll Be No Retrieval From The Evil!: Philip Morris as Dr. Evil, the resident evil of "Dr. Evil's Horror Theatre" on Charlotte's WBTV-3. The show's original incarnation ran from 1962 to 1969, later resurrected in the mid-'80s on TBS. Morris was a great showman, a magician and former circus ringmaster who ran a successful costume company with his wife and hosted traveling midnight spook shows. He was arrested for scaling a radio station sign dressed like a gorilla (!) to promote an event, and a gorilla suit supplied by his company was used in the famous 1967 Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot hoax. Morris and his son would later successfully sue "Austin Powers" producers Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema for copyright infringement of the moniker "Dr. Evil" in 1997.
