Batman: Caped Crusader season two did the impossible by making me actually interested in the Joker and wishing we’d seen more of him. The choice to make him German? And use chemical warfare as he seeks to expunge the “bugs” and “vermin” (aka the people of Gotham)? And call Batman “brother” and act like they’re united in their so-called superiority? All while this show is set in the 1940s??? The connections to be made regarding Nazi Germany and WWII are fascinating and I think it was a huge missed opportunity to not explore those further. Grounding the show in real history like that would’ve made it even grittier and more impactful.
