Apple TV Quietly Adds Some Classics
Apple TV has expanded beyond its usual lineup of originals by adding a collection of well-known movies that subscribers can stream at no additional cost. The films appear in a new “Great Movies Available Now on Apple TV” section, though availability varies depending on the country.
In the US, the selection includes Arrival, The Martian, Titanic, Gone Girl, Zodiac, The Bourne Identity, E.T., Looper, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, among others. These movies would normally be offered separately through the Apple TV Store for rental or purchase.
Apple hasn’t said whether this expanded catalog is permanent or a temporary promotion. The company experimented with adding licensed movies to its streaming subscription before, but that earlier effort didn’t stick around for long.
My Thoughts: Apple TV has always felt unusually committed to the “quality over quantity” approach. Throwing a pile of familiar movies into the library makes it feel a little more like a conventional streaming service—and probably makes browsing on a quiet night much easier.
