In the past, because Sitara's owner was settled in one spot, it was only being traded around that would force her to move. Now, with new management in control, her owner is a constant but the location isn't.

It highlights the precarious nature of being a slave with a good owner in a similar way to Uncle Tom's Cabin. Even if your current owner is kind, if they die and you are still a slave, you are at the mercy of whoever takes on ownership of you. Even with the kindest master in the world you are never really safe because you are never allowed to own your own destiny. That can be a comfort at times as illustrated with Sitara's conversation with other slaves, but also a heavy burden

God fucking damnit man. Watched several more episodes of the anime Monster and I swear Martin was the biggest gut punch yet maybe only rivalled by Richard's death. I cried so much I actually feel like this image above

That being said, I love how insanely good writing of even the side characters is in this anime. With Martin, not only the character himself is likeable (albeit with his own issues but who isn't in this story?), but also the theme around him is so well executed?? How him having allowed two people in his life die by simply abandoning them when they seemingly asked to let them be. Though, partially, not taking the risk seriously enough might also be a factor. And how it all caught up to him and he concluded that it is never right, no matter what these people say or no matter if they themselves don't cling to their lives because deep down nobody seriously means it. But of course. Of course it came at the irreversible cost. Because we can't have nice things in this story. (/pos)
