i think he might want to put his kids in a harness, but that might be a bit embarrassing as they are heirs to a rogue trader dynasty. they should be respectful, and well raised so that they listen to their parents, right? he does care about appearances.

which is why he's big on the hand holding thing. either him, or the rogue trader, or abelard if he sticks around, and then several other companions if they stick around (argenta, idira, pasqal and his mechadendrites, solomorne, etc) in descending order.

or, he simply picks his kid(s) up with his big strong biomancy arms if they try and run off! he can lift his kids for far longer than he should, even when they grow up! imagine heinrix having one of his kids play with his jacket buttons and cheeks while he hands over a report, and gives detailed instructions despite the, uh, tiny hands all over his face.

or picking up his much older daughter/son and carrying them back to bed because they got sick, or injured, and they're still his little girl/boy/one, no matter how old or big they get. i always think of that dao loghain quote:
