"Hey, bub."

If you are used to overly scripted Hollywood movies, this might not be for you. This film didn't need big blockbuster scenes, the subtle comedy and clever undertones were perfect. There are numerous belly-laugh moments, of which I haven't had from a film in a while.

Together the characters played by Cheadle and Sandler struggle to heal each other in the way that true friends often do (in a way that reminds me of Matt Damon and Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting). They are both searching for that part of the themselves that they have lost and trying to find again.

"Alex laughs so hard he almost falls into a fountain."

This movie is way funnier and more engaging, while Four Weddings and a Funeral had a this strange [structure] that reset the situation a couple of times and a bitter, sorrowful ending which was bit of a downer. Here things are not so bleak, however the movie lays on a pretty thick layer of cringe. The cringe-worthy jokes, which I loved, could rub people the wrong way: you are basically asking the audience to laugh at something that is not funny, precisely because it not funny. But I think it worked and gave the movie [another] type of comedy to play with.

There aren't any gun battles or car chases, and there's no gratuitous nudity. Is that why people hate this film? I thought it was an adorable film shot in an exquisite location.
