So look, as a veterinary tech I’m not a narc. None of us care if you personally are using something you should keep on the down low. THAT BEING SAID. If you tell us there’s no chance your animal has gotten into any drugs and it turns out they test positive for them (yes we do run drug tests on animals if we suspect intoxication) we will not be very pleased. Yes, we can smell the weed on you, everyone in the damn building can.
By not being honest you have effectively delayed treatment for your animal, and in my clinic’s case you would’ve paid for us to run that drug test. As in a normal urine test for humans plus whatever fee we add on. This is in addition to your exam fee, any bloodwork, treatments we will do. I grantee that your dog will likely be on fluids, which depending on where you go is not always cheep.
We’re in this business to help your pet get better, not be wannabe cops. The most judgement I give is coughing if I can smell the grass on you from across the building. Trust me, we would prefer you tell us that your dog ate your crack stash so we can get straight to business (true story, that dog needed emergency surgery cause the bag obstructed him).
