when people ask me when I realized I liked women I remember the tv I watched in middle school
I have always felt I looked younger than my years, and spoke older. But today, the mirror greeted me with a woman who appeared to have aged a decade overnight. Her sunken and sleepless eyes struck me with a sharp and sudden force. I'm a mother now. At work, a trusted leader. I'm not a naive bubbly anxious teenager anymore, but a rounder, softer, slower person who would have the patience to sit with her and show her the way.
I still choose to see the good in people, but I am so much more of a realist now, with stronger and clearer boundaries to protect my peace. I have people twice my age coming to me to ask for advice, and it hits me that I am her. Somewhere along the way, I blinked and I grew up. Before I know it, a tiny hand will be squeezing my finger and pulling my heart in all kinds of incredible ways. I'm so greatful, and so ready.
So, I was on a training course last week, and they wanted us to do an exercise to practise public speaking. We could choose any topic we liked. It was meant to be 2 minutes long, but the trainer was not going to force us to keep to that.
So, me being me, I chose to talk about lightasaber colours in Star Wars, including the wider canon from Legends.
For 5 MINUTES.
The best bit? My group was completely enthralled by it, and asked me more questions when it was all over.
