Happy Pride Month! 

These photos come from Jack Baker's ('72) campaign for Minnesota Student Association president in 1971. He did become MSA president that year, and also in 1971, Baker and his partner, James McConnell, became the first same-sex couple to be legally married. Baker was a dedicated activist and was involved in some of the earliest pride events in the country that were held in Minneapolis in the 1970s.

The University Faculty are allowing this activity, unfortunately.

But! They have a meeting called the Board Of Regents meeting on FEBUARY 12TH AND 13TH on the sixth floor of a building on the UMN Campus called McNamara hall. It's open to the whole public- PLEASE come and state your grievances. I want these goons off my campus and people should be allowed to protest freely on campus, as well

I deleted another post about this concern for a moment while I dig in for sources and verification about exactly what went down and the reprocussions folks are facing.

However this brief article is documentation of the protest referenced in the meantime. I am not certain who was detained by the U and who was detained by the MPD, as it’s my understanding both were involved, and I don’t know who was charged with what.

STUDENTS ARE FACING CONDUCT VIOLATIONS. CALL THE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT (612-626-1616) AND DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (612-624-2677) TO DEMAND THE UNIVERSITY DEFEND THE SAFETY AND RIGHTS OF THEIR STUDENTS. FEDERAL MURDERERS SHOULD NOT BE SLEEPING ACROSS THE STREET FROM COLLEGE STUDENTS.

today was my last day before spring break!! i had two back-to-back midterm exams, a paper due, AND a student group meeting 😭
