Owlcatober ~Forever
[WotR Rethelion, Act 5, 425 words] ---
"Still think I should have chosen someone from my 'own time'?" Rethelion asked, breathless and a hint smug as she traced Ulbrig's tattoos with a light touch.
He bellowed an equally breathless laugh. "No, no, I'm very grateful you didn't abide by my gloomy prattle." He ran his fingers through her hair, curling the inky blue-black strands. "You are far wiser than I."
She rested her chin on his chest, right over his heart, and smiled coyly. "A good thing to remember."
"Oh, all my days, warchief. "Ulbrig's hand slipped from her hair to carress her shoulders, run down her back, a golden shimmer of mirth in his eyes.
"That is a long time," Rethelion mused. She was quiet a moment, enjoying the tingle and lazy warmth of his fingers running up and down her back, then pushed up to look down at him, her hair falling in a curtain. "How long... how many days do you think you will have?" That was the side of things, initially, that had given her pause, rather than his displacement in time. She was, after all, still an elf and he a human. Or so they'd thought.
"Oh, quite a few, I reckon, with Aervahr in there," Ulbrig mused, smiling broadly. His eyes were gold again. He sat up, traced his thumb down her jaw to tease her lower lip. "Quite possibly forever. Or at least damn close. Why, dear heart?"
"I was going to live.... a long time alredy," she said slowly, distracted by his touch, "but with Iomadae's invitation to Heaven once we finish with the Wound, it may well be forever."
"And y' wondered how much of that we'll get to enjoy each other's company?" Ulbring chuckled.
"It would be a considerably more boring eternity without you," Rethelion murmured. Her finger sank into his rich, coppery waterfall of hair and she leaned in to kiss him, both humming appreciation as it deepened.
"Flattery isn't your usual way," Ulbrig mumbled teasingly against her mouth.
"Not flattery, truth." She held his gaze. "I would spend my eternity with you, Ulbrig Olesk, and be happier for it."
The fond wonder in his eyes would never get old, even if she got that eternity with him.
"And I can pledge you the same, Rethelion," he said, words solemn, eyes sparkling. "Eternity, and happier for it."
His hand slid to the back of her head, pulling her in for another kiss, and she went with alacrity. This seemed a superb way to start that eternity.
Or however long they got.
Ulbrig is hot af i love him so much
When Ulbrig Just got out I thought waaait, does he worship Desna?
But no, not in a way as full desnan at least. Still, "Mother Moon" - cute! Aaw.
Trickster path choice!
Camellia and Daeran really enjoy it. Daeran already has plans. Even Wenduag loves it.
Regill strongly disapproves of my choice. And Ulbrig also hates it (one of the few times he comments something different from his usual suspicion).
Nenio gives her standard answer.

Dialogue source
just reading To the Abyss and Back for the first time - i know this was written pre-Ulbrig based on the date of the current chapter im on but what would Hilde think of him? :0
Thank you! I’ve been meaning to add some stuff about Ulbrig.
Hilde and Ulbrig are very similar and for the most part they get along very well. Both are more savage/barbarian outsiders thrown into the circus of Mendevian politics and stuck leading an army of more ‘civilized’ crusaders. They themselves are from different cultures, Hilde being Ulfen and Ulbrig being Kellid, but they both tend to go to each other for familiarity when living among Mendevian is too much.
Hilde also sees Ulbrig as a unique resource into Sarkorian life and culture before the Worldwound and frequently bugs him for old stories and bits about culture she can record. Ulbrig finds this slightly annoying but also endearing and he appreciates that anyone cares about his culture.
Hilde supports Ulbrig's efforts to find his people and doesn't push him to realize that he's been asleep for a hundred years. This is mostly because she subconsciously realizes that she's also displaced in time but refuses to confront it, and forcing Ulbrig to realize it would also force her to deal with her own issues.
The first big hiccup in their relationship comes from how Ulbrig seems to think fey, demons, and celestials are all the same. His calling everything unfamiliar an 'oglin' starts to get on Hilde's nerves after a while, especially after she becomes part-demon and gets really touchy about people treating her like a demon.
Ulbrig also distances himself from Hilde after it comes out that she abandoned her family and tribe to go traveling. He sees this as a big stain on her reputation and never quite gets over it.
Happy Pride to a beautiful shifter4shifter relationship
