casually went on a rant about sonic ocs instead of doing my work LMAO

i was watching a YouTube video about sonic ocs and redesigning them using an old character creator the other day. somethin the person said in that video has stuck with me - because it kind of annoyed me?

they said something along the lines of "we're not going with a hedgehog character, because everyone has hedgehog characters they're just not very creative"

i've been looking at my ocs since then. 4 of em are hedgehogs. none of em look identical or have identical traits. they're unique and individual. the only two that are similar are related-- so they should be.

i don't think it's fair to lump everyone together in one pile. tarring a group of people who have had these characters for so long, developed them so much, with the same brush that's tarring little children who take pngs of sonic and colour over them in mspaint. it just rubs me the wrong way.

there is no right or wrong way to do ocs. do self- inserts, recolours, kins, entirely new characters with no connections to anything, long lost relationships, who tf cares? we should all be allowed to have fun and not feel like we're "not creative enough".
