Honestly... The Blight is a "sin" virus. Which means if there is huge amount of sin in a place, the Blight can be summoned just like what happend in San Sebastián. But in the same time, it appared in Berezina since the Blight originated during the end of the Ruso-Ottman War. But then the Blight also appears in Vardøhus Fortress with no known reason...

I mean yeah, Berezina got infected bucz of the whole Bloody mess the battle between the French and Russians happend. There is also the "unknown" reason why Moscow was on fire too (probably the Blight's first sightings in that city)
But Vardøhus Fortress? What the most horrible thing that happend there to make the virus to summon?!
You know... instead of the Blight being a virus that comes from hell beacuse is full... what if it was a virus that people thought it was from hell and it's a mutation of a virus (rabies, as an example. Both diseases share characteristics in some point. Hell even The Last Dawn used that excuse!)
It would make since if the Blight spreaded like a normal virus did in that time. (Vía Trading) that could explican why three places far away got the same plage in the same time
