Is the United Confederation of Taino People a fraudulent group? I am in a way trying to make a Taino character for a comic book that I am doing, but something seems off about the info they are giving.
Yes, the UCTP is a revisionist group. Their “cacique”, Roberto Borrero has been appropriating aspects of Haudenosaunee cultures for decades, including the idea of a “Taino confederacy” (which mysteriously also accepts the Kali’na, Kalinago, and the Garifuna) and Kanien’keha:ka orthography.You should not be making any Taino characters, or utilizing aspects of our culture, in anything. We have little enough representation as it is: only Taino folks should be producing works that represent our people.
Anything else is absolutely disrespectful.
