A Native American man from Boyds, Maryland is making it his mission to keep the contributions of America’s Indigenous people alive as both the United States and Montgomery County move into their 250th year of existence. Denyzio Laboy is Native American resident of Boyds with Taíno Arawak heritage. He moved to Montgomery County from New York City to pursue a career as a special agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. When the mass government federal workforce reductions occurred earlier this year, Laboy was one of the 25,000 Marylanders who lost a job. For him, it was an opportunity to lean into an advocacy project he had been doing as volunteer work aside from his full-time work.
