Yes, it’s the Korean version of the Christian hymn, I’ve Got Peace Like a River. According to 2017 statistics, around 31% of the people in South Korea are Christian. Regardless of her spiritual background, Koreans reference this Christianity all the time (hence, the birth of 치느님 - what Koreans call the glorified fried chicken). It makes sense that Sunny would seek divine protection from all this freaky stuff happening!!

DEOKHWA DOOBOO (TOFU)

As soon as the Goblin bails the Grim Reaper out of the police station, DeokHwa runs to him with 두부(dooboo)!! 

So this is actually a thing popularized by mainstream media in movies such as Lady Vengeance (2005) / ’친절한 금자씨’ and Oasis (2002) / ‘오아시스’. Here are some reasons why they eat tofu when they’ve done their time:

SYMBOLIC – tofu is white, which symbolizes purity. In context, it means to cleanse away from your wrongdoings and live a righteous life on a clean slate. To stretch its meaning, they say no two tofu is ever the same. In the same way, it’s to hope that this bad time never happens again.

TECHNICAL – tofu is made in and comes out of a mold, which means the person who came out should also fit into society’s mold and live well within its standards.

PRACTICAL – it’s nutritious, good for digestion, and cheap. Yep.

CONCLUSION

Sunny sings a hymn called “I’ve got peace like a river” to shoo away possible evil spirits!
