Today's headcanon focuses on: Link and Tulin!!

Link & Tulin’s bond ☀️

I imagine Link would have a sibling-like bond with Tulin, like Tulin would be such a lil iPad kid and ask for his Purah pad ALL THE TIME.. I have a vision and I hope you guys see it

Lots of people criticize the story for this game. And I can see why. I'm not too far into it but I'm already bored and disinterested with the Zonai stuff. But that's not where my main gripe is.

Rito village is favorite area of the game. I love the Ritos culture, and the narrative behind Revali and his people. I like that unlike the other champions in BOTW, Revali isn't a member of royalty or a chief, nor was he born with a magical power. He wasn’t born in privilege and blessed with a special power. He was an ordinary rito with exceptional talent, who practiced and worked hard to attain his skillset. We see this especially in the Champions Ballad dlc that Revali worked especially hard to develop and control his gale. He became an exceptional warrior through his hard work and perseverance.

We see this continuation in his legacy through Teba. Teba is also an exceptional warrior, but he's a normal person. He's not a descendant of one of the old champions. He doesn't have a special magic power. He became the best warrior in the village through his efforts. He's Revalis successor because like him, he's a talented warrior of no important background, that diligently trained to get to where he is.

In Totk Teba becomes the new village elder. His son Tulin has grown older and is a fledging warrior with a lot of talent. I loved this change, as I always liked Tebas little family, and I liked the decision to make an older Tulin a major supporting character. I want to take a moment to say that I actually like Tulins character a lot. He's very cute and his story has a nice lesson of working together as a team.

My main problem however is the cutscene that occurs after we defeat Colgera. We meet the ancient wind sage, who tells Tulin that he's his descendant. I took this to mean his direct descendant, as they shared the same color plumage.

After turning off the game for the night, the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I became about this plot development. The rito are the one culture in Hyrule that appear to have a meritocracy. They have a village elder that's likely appointed due to their accomplishments in the village, or at least their competency for the job. Their champions become champions through their hard work. There is no royal bloodline as they don't have a monarchy, and seem to have more of an egalitarian, communal meritocracy.
