Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky, 1875
So there was this king Ludwig II. of Bavaria who was so passionately enthusiastic about Wagner's music that he not only supported him financially (well actually 'til a point he paid all the debts of this limited-moral-sensed man) but also built a castle inspired by Lohengrin, the composer's opera including the iconic swan knight. That castle's name is Neuschwanstein and that's why Ludwig II. is also called "The Swan King."
AND I CANNOT NOT THINK ABOUT THAT LUDWIG WASN'T JUST SIMPLY A ROYAL FANBOY
but he also had a reallyreally huge crush on Wagner but Wagner was
a) kinda straight so he didn't notice it, his ego was just happy because somebody Fi-NaL-Ly appreciated his genuine ideas as much as his -well- personal bullshits
b) (not only straight but also) kinda ignorant /or just didn't even had the knowledge of the opportunity of somebody being gay - I don't really think this/ and the sentence is continued the same way like above
c) (not only straight but also) just constantly utilizing Ludwig's attraction to build up his own life and dreams and personal cult and I think if it's the real case it's really rude, it's actual DICKNESS, aaaaand
what's if during this, Ludwig II. was all like "Richard, PLEASE, I BUILT YOU A WHOLE CASTLE, I want, I wish, I beg for your attention, omfg why are you so BLIND, what more do you want, MiLiTaR rAnK, aN oWn LitTLe sEpAraTeD StAtE iN BaVariA?!?!???"
Now imagine what if Ludwig II. fell in love with Tschaikovsky instead of Wagner...🥺 These two art weirdos might would be the perfect match, seriously!
imaginary worldbuilding✅
comprehending each other's foolish things (or getting mad about them, at the same time, who knows?)✅
dance, especially ballet✅ (Ludwig II. was also a huge fan of Louis XIV. who made dance a cardinal part of the French court in in the 17-18th century)
insane and extravagant theatre ideas (aka canons, I'M LOOKING AT YOU, PJOTR ILYICH) ✅
+
Ludwig still could be "The Swan King" because
SWAN LAAAAAAKE!!!
Oh, God, at this point I started to need paralel universes.
