Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) - Concerto for Cello, Strings and Basso continuo in b-minor, RV 424, I. Allegro non molto. Performed by Pieter Wispelwey, violoncello piccolo, and Florilegium on period instruments.
Vivaldi and his orphaned students 🥹
Today is the birthday of Antonio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741). Since I was a small child, when I repeatedly demanded that my parents play a record of "Hivaldi" (sic), he's been my favorite composer. Perhaps he's not as great as Bach or Beethoven, but as a neurodivergent person who struggles constantly with anxiety, I take immense comfort in the many elegant, superbly crafted concertos he wrote. They're an island of order in a roiling sea of disruption.
