Instead of writing, I decided to try designing some formal gowns for/based on some of my characters!
1. Asa
This dress is completely lace, mostly a cream colour but fading to a deep green- almost black- at the bottom edge, like many layers of seaweed. It’s kind of hard to see but there are some gold bead accents in the green and on the front.
Asa would wear this with a golden leafy bracelet and a twist of kelp in her hair.
Inspirations: Wedding dress alterations by Taylor Ann (specifically the bottom rightmost one.)
2. Cortica
Cortica’s ordinary clothes are already pretty formal by today’s standards, so I imagine her formalwear would be quite fancy. The pale blue parts of this dress are chiffon, and the rest is satin. The colours on this one didn’t scan through very well; the pale blue is right, but the darker blue should be a few shades darker, and the parts that look brown are actually meant to be a shiny, coppery colour. (London blue and copper are Her Colours and she wanted them incorporated somehow.)
Cortica would wear this with her hair up and a dark blue ribbon around it, pale blue gloves, and coppery-looking shoes.

3. Trie
This dress isn’t extremely formal, but Trie’s pretty young, and her idea of a formal event is a party or a nice dinner. This dress comes down to her knees and the belt has a shiny golden buckle on it.
Trie would wear this with knee socks, black shoes, and a pearl necklace.
Inspirations: 50′s fashion, specifically high-waisted dresses and poodle skirts.
4. Mina
Mina favours colourful, elegant fashion; her style takes cues from a number of different nations’ clothing trends. This dress is mostly chiffon, with satin ribbon, and again the colours didn’t come out very clear; they should pretty much all be a little darker.
Mina would wear this with dark brown sandals, gold bangle bracelets, and blue drop earrings.
