But seriously. Can anyone please help me figure out how to get into the translation field. I would love to be a freelance translator. Russian to English preferred. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Being a translator, it is very often that I find people who will tell me that I chose an easy job, that poses no danger for me or others... and while I will most probably won't have to defuse a bomb or sort out a hostage situation or run TO the building that caught fire instead of running FROM it as most would, my work is also fraught with peril. As is also the case with lawyers (whose day was yesterday and I forgot to comment on that), we can destroy people's reputations or cost companies millions when we choose the wrong word, or give reason to doubt the other person's intentions with a bad translation or interpretation, and a wrong meaning can be dreadful. Words matter, meanings matter, context matters. Being a translator might seem simple to you, but we are responsible of making you appear intelligent or dumb as dirt.
