Ok. Tf g1, s1 ep2.
Oh my god.
So basicly, Spike is badly injured during a fight with the decepticons and needs surgery. But it's too Risky to operate cuz it might damage his mind. So Sparkplug decides the best course of action is to transport Spike's mind into a Frankenstein's monster-esk robot body.
Note: Spike had zero say in this.
The transfer is successful, but unfortunately, Spike is (understandibly) distressed about being in a robot body.
"What have I done?" - Sparkplug
"There's something in my head telling me to do bad things," - Spike
They set up Spike with a nice place to sit and some movies to watch. Just to keep him calm until he can be returned to his human body.
FUCKING FRANKENSTEIN COMES ON, and Spike, barely able to think, internalizes the concept of being a monster SO HARD.
Eventually, Megatron shows up, and manipulation insues.
"Let us get revenge on the ones who did this to you!" - Megatron
"I can barely think" - Spike
"Then I shall think for you," -Megatron
Basicly, the equivalent of "I can take the pain away."
Spike agrees, now fully in the state of mind of being a monster and needing his revenge.
Bee calls papaw Optimus to help.
He doesn't do much.
Spike ends up shooting Sparkplug while clouded, but hearing his dad's scream breaks him out of his haze, and he saves Sparkplug!
Btw, he's welding Megatron in gun form, and Megatron is talking to him like the green goblin mask talks to Osborn.
But anyway. Spike, now in a generaly ok state of mind turns the gun on the Decepticons. Defeating them and chasing them away!
"Will you forgive me?" - Spike
"There is nothing to forgive" - Sparkplug
Spike is returned to his body, and the day is saved!
~~~
Tbh, I loved this episode. It was such an interesting premise, and it would have made an awesome three parter!
Something similar happens with Silas in tfp. Not entirely the same. Instead, he used a decepticon corpse as a life support machine. But it was the same premise as human in a robot body.
I thought it would be the classic case of character getting cocky and ending up in trouble. But the episode was weirdly realistic with Spike's feelings, and I really liked it :3
Back at it again with the g1 notes and sillies.
Post Cybertron almost destroying earth with its gravitational pull, the autobots actually set to work on fixing everything that was damaged! I like this tbh. They help humans and humans help them. Even more so, I appreciate the humans actually playing a role in this.
Prime did pretty well with humans actually helping. But it's pretty limited with Jack, Raf, and Miko being the only ones. Also, they couldn't help much other than small missions or getting cybertronian tech to fight back. In g1, humans actively do fight back or help guide the bots a lot more than most continuities. The best modern example of it is rescue bots, which is all about humans and bots working together.
Anyways, Starscream is fucked up and did this to the evil scientist.
He hasn't shown up again after that, tho. Idk if he does appear again. I would appreciate it if he did. He did get revenge on Starscream, tho.
Spike got fucked over when crashing in Bumblebee.
"If only there was a way to separate his brain from his body while we operate on him" - the doctor.
So anyway, Sparkplug made a whole ass autobot Frankenstein's monster out of spare autobot parts, and no one questioned the ethics of it. Tho, in g1, they manually build cybertronians, unlike most continuities that have them emerging from the well of the allspark. Gues where Spike's brain is going???? ',:3
Finale post before I konk out for the night.
Scientist guy who does mind control but also somehow has empathy? Idk. For a freak who wants world domination so bad, he is really against hurting his mind slaves. Btw his other arm is robotic.
Cybertron
Shockwave holding Spike.
I wish there were more human and decepticon interactions these days. G1 had them straight up bitch slapping the humans, and the humans shooting guns and making deals. Now it's kinda boring. All the interactions are now mostly only verbal, and what little violence happens is almost entirely off-screen or implied.
They ordered Sparkplug (Spike's dad) to shoot Spike, btw. Shits fucked.
But they saved both humans in time, and Spike cried. He seems to be an emotional guy. Tho it is his dad. So I don't blame him
You ain't gonna shoot shit with that Spike.
Love when the autobots just enjoy the planet. It doesn't always have to be war.
At this point Spike's diary is just a fucking reverse death note at this point. Mf is constantly jinxing everyone.
Also, humans are aware the bots are around, and with the amount of blue coller workers they attack, you know it's getting around that giant robots are attacking all power stations, and more robots are saving them.
Bumblebee- Hey Spike?
Spike- Yeah, Bee?
Bumblebee- What does this mean?
Spike- Let me see...
Bumblebee- What the hell is a tranch?
Spike- Oh, this might just be a troll. Or a meme. I swear, every year teenagers make up new memes and I feel like im 80 years old.
Bumblebee- How old are you?
Spike- I'm 21. Carly is 23 and Chip is 20.
Bumblebee- You aren't that much older than the others.
Spike- Bee, Jack is 17, in this era of the internet, we might as well be 50 years apart in age.
Bumblebee- I still don't really get it.
Spike- Nah, don't worry about it.
*end transmission*
One last thought about Transformers #9 this month, specifically concerning Spike -
The doctors aren’t sure if Spike is going to walk again.
Daniel Warren Johnson claiming Fortress Maximus is one of his favorite characters as per his interview with the Triple Takeover podcast.
The conflict between some people thinking Spike could be a composite character of himself and Chip Chase, making him disabled rep, and the idea that Spike will be turned into a cyborg and Headmaster to walk again, which would make his character (guy who wants to become an astronaut) incredibly similar to of all people, the lead of GaoGaiGar, Guy Shishio, an astronaut who was turned into a cyborg to save his life.
Now isn’t that an issue. Rep, GaoGaiGar shout-out. Rep, Fortress Maximus.
Rep/Chip Chase -
Cyborg -
Well, this could definitely go in some very interesting directions either way.
