Kinda fucks me up how trans people can be hit with comphet from both sides
When I was 6, I was not capable of attraction yet, but I mentioned a friend who was a girl like twice in front of my parents, and since they thought I was a boy, my dad immediately decided I had a crush on her. He teased me about it so much that I eventually started believing it. It made interacting with her as a friend really scary and uncomfortable at times.
When I got older and started questioning if I had feelings for boys (in retrospect, I think my "gay awakening" was actually being exposed to the consept of trans women, without getting the needed vocabulary to really process that, but that's a story for another time) I realized my earlier crushes on girls had been Off, so I dismissed it all as comphet, and started identifying as a gay boy
That sure threw me for a loop when I got an actual crush on that friend a couple of years later. I switched over to bi
I'm skipping over a lot here, but fast forward to when I was talking to the gender specialists. They were much more gatekeep-y here 6 years ago than they are now, and I ended up getting rejected for treatment for a nimber of reasons, some of them valid (I wasn't out to anyone, and showed few signs of intending to come out) aome of them less so (I identified as bi) their definition of what a trans woman was allowed to be back then was very narrow. Girly. Gender conforming. Straight.
