I'm a big sucker for BPALs so here's my 'essence notes' for each of my fave characters.
Sal: October night crispy air, worn-out clothes, peppermint, opium, tobacco and forest musk
Larry: well-worn leather jacket, old basement musk, black pepper, oil paints, cannabis and tobacco infusion
Ashley: blood-red cherries, retro polaroid cards, carnation, laundry softener and a touch of amber
Maple: black velvet, aged vanilla and honey infusion, tobacco and patchouli
Travis: soft myrr, bedroom dust, melted candles, carnation and a hint of antiseptic
Todd: old science books, Earl Gray tea, clean linen, soft wooly sweater
Neil: rich black coffee, almonds, a pinch of coriander
Chug: salted-caramel popcorn, cheddar cheese, fleshly-toasted bread and new-edition comic books

So now we know why sal's mask has the pink part. Or we can assume anyway. In one of the clips you can get from the doors, sal is talking to his dad in the car. Hes talking about his mom, and It can be assumed their coming back from the hospital. Sal talks about how he chose his prosthetic, and its pink "cause it's her favorite color". Maybe when he got older the mask broke, and he kept a piece of it on to remember his mother. :')
