What happened to Daniel honestly? He served a great narrative purpose in previous seasons and he was always seeing the bullshit in these vamps. Did becoming a vampire destroy his dogged journalistic integrity or something?? 50 yrs in the game, in a field that can be frustrating, and meddled with by the powers that be, but he kept to his values.
Now he basically lets Lestat go unchallenged most times. He should be questioning everyone, the documentary should actually matter instead of just being there. Like we uncovered things alongside Daniel as viewers, but 4 episodes in and it feels like a performance we're being told to accept as truth.
This can also apply to how Louis is being portrayed, it just feels like everyone is an extra in Lestat's story. And I want to see Louis, I want to see Armand. I want to see what everyone is doing and how that'll intersect when they all meet. Hell do something with Gabrielle! Episode 4 we finally saw a glimmer of more from her, how many scenes of Lestat looking at his phone did we need to see fr though? I feel like they're beating us over the head with things this season, go back to subtlety genuinely. You don't need to be obvious ( *cough Claudia assault voice over by Louis intercut with Lestat's turning *cough).
In trying to make Lestat the central point of this series(in a way that doesn't work), this show has failed in keeping a nunaced story where multiple people exist. This is not the book, Anne was obsessed with Lestat and good for her. It was her universe and everyone else was living in it. But this is television, you can't just have one person tell the entire story, be the story and just be worshipped by the writers. Like we can tell! And no it's not coming off great.
Maybe some of you enjoy that but I prefer a more well rounded story. Not another white male Gary Stu!
Fucking also! If we have like 8 episode total, stop spending like 4-5 setting shit up. What is wrong with tv today I swear to god! This is not a 22 episode show where having a couple bad episodes doesn't matter. You spent half the season doing fuck all! "Keep watching" man we've finished 50% and it's not been it. Like you can't miss 5 times out of 10 when you have short seasons. This isn't even just this show, it's like every show these days this is happening to. Supposedly having less episodes was to ensure better quality, but it's like I'm trying to catch a sighting of pigs flying because they never stick the landing!
