Lance describing Alex
âHow did you do it?â I asked once after we stopped by the cubicles at the social media floor of CWP. He was talking to one of the staff who apparently was a big fan of his, yet he addressed the room like he was the master of a show. Everyone paused to listen to what he had to say, waiting for the perfect time to laugh, cry, or groan. Whatever reaction Alex needed. Like wildflowers, alluring the butterfly.
âI tried too hard,â he answered with a cheeky smile as we resumed walking.
âWhy? Is this what you really want?â
âI want everything, Lance.â He was looking at me with heavy eyelids. âEverything.â
Thatâs the thing with Alex. He wants to do everything, see everything, become everything that people want him to be. When weâre waiting for our orders at a restaurant, heâs talking to the person at the next table, asking about their day. When weâre on the train, heâs taking pictures of buildings and sunsets as if he hasnât seen them a hundred times before. I saw him enter the CWP building once, watched the corner of his eyes crinkle at something the guard said, heard his laugh from across the room as he made the receptionist blush. He hated being still, and he wanted to be everywhere, all at once. He wanted to mark every place, every crevice with his name. And I couldn't keep up.
I felt like it was all a show. And often Iâd feel like he was still doing it - still trying too hard - so Iâd meet him in his apartment room instead where he could take off all his heavy masks and all his heavy clothes. But before I knew it, I've become one of those wildflowers he bewitched. Alex was my taste of everything, and I wanted and hated it at the same time. I didnât want to taint him with my ugly. He was that one butterfly that accidentally wandered into my room, and I wanted to keep the windows shut so he wouldnât find his way out. Because I didnât want to watch him go.
- THE SWITCH
the switch - chap. 5
by tzaya
summary : she couldâve messaged him saying something came up, anythingâ so he could go home and tick it off on his list as an another unsuccessful attempt at love.
( shizuo/izaya // 1,255 words ) ⥠read all parts here .
Shizuo was a monster; in no way was he anywhere close to being included in the human race that Izaya so adored with the entirety of his heart. But Shizuo was his fun little plaything, and to be frank, he felt rather irked with the fact that Koyuki had interrupted the fun that had just begun. When heâd bumped into her earlier, she was rushing as if sheâd seen something horrific. Though he couldnât blame her too much, Shizuo could definitely be the definition for that word, and sure, he might have had played a part by feeding further into her fear by spouting about the aftermath of her relationship with Shizuo if she was to pursue it (he mayâve exaggerated a bit, with the âyouâll look as if Shizu-chan had decided to make a human meatball for dinner - your pretty face, insides, even bones, everything - all mushed together into one!â). The look on her face was priceless. She was as pale as sheet, couldnât even muster a glance at the promised meeting spot before she fled the scene.
He recalled that he did have half a mind to do a brief background research on Koyuki prior to entering the premise, but the excitement pulsing through his veins at the thought of surprising Shizuo was too difficult to contain. It got the better of him. Perhaps he couldâve foreseen this unpredictable behavior of hers had he read up about her first, rather than simply assuming that sheâd never breathe near much less step foot in this restaurant again.
Of course, it wasnât like it wouldnât be fun to spectate these two on a date. It would be, only if he wasnât already sitting here across of Shizuo, all suited up and for what?
âI didnât take you for someone with a death wish, Koyuki-san. After all, you were the one who chickened out at the entrance,â Izaya teased.
âWell⊠I â I know! But I started to feel bad. I think I shouldnât have judged too early.â
âThereâs indeed a saying âdonât judge a book by its coverâ, but that doesnât apply to Shizu-chan here. I think that it was just your instincts telling you that youâre walking into a dangerous territory. So the situation now is more of a âlike sending lamb to the slaughterâ now, ne?â
Koyukiâs expression wavered. It almost looked like she was about to dash out of the restaurant again.
âOi, donât scare her!â Shizuo slammed a hand onto the table surface.
âIâm not doing anything. Really, would you want to sit here with someone who might leave again? Unless Shizu-chanâs into that kind of thing, a shaming kin ââ
Another loud slam resonated throughout the space. Izaya promptly reached for his glass of wine to sip on before everything falls off of the table.
âAre you working for this flea right here?â Shizuo gestured towards him.
âNo, of course not⊠This is the first time Iâve ever interacted with Orihara-san.â
âSee, you really should invest in that one percent of trust that not everythingâs my doing!â
Shizuo didnât seem anywhere near convinced, his brows furrowed and the slight twitch in his fingers showed how much he craved a smoke to calm his nerves. To have all of the focus fixated on him mustâve been pressuring.
âAfter seeing your flea face,â Izaya flashed the sweetest smile he could muster while Shizuo continued on, suppressing a growl, âI donât know what the hell to think anymore. But â fuck, even if you werenât lying, Iâd rather sit with her.â
For someone whoâd always bragged about how he could easily tell if someone was lying to his face, Shizuo sure seemed to be having a difficult time. Not that that was surprising at all, with how little useful information he received.
This is why Izaya was the informant, not Shizuo.
âEven though you were ditched. Ah, Shizu-chan is hopelessly persistent when it comes to love. Of course, I understand, since itâs difficult for you to come by someone who could put up with you. You canât just let her slip away.â
âFuck off.â
Izaya chuckled, and as if Shizuo hadnât just told him to leave, leaned back against his chair. Â
âYou know, Iâm really staying for the date,â Koyuki gained the courage to speak up again, hands balling up into small fists on her sides, âI â I love Heiwajima-san!â
Izaya howled with laughter.
Meanwhile Shizuoâs posture became still, his pupils blown wide. This was probably a first time for him too, hearing this.
If he had a yen for every time someone that wasnât Shizuoâs immediate family or friends said that they loved Shizuo, Izaya would be a poor man. Perhaps the poorest man in the whole world. He wouldnât even be able to buy a single candy at the convenience store â ! And here this random girl is saying that she loved him.
âYouâre funny, Koyuki-san. How long have you known each other?â
âTwo weeksâŠ?â
âNot to downplay your feelings, but it might be infatuation speaking. I canât see how anyone could ever love such monster.â
At that, Shizuo snapped out of his stupor.
âGET OUT.â
âCome on,â Izaya lolled his head to the side, smile shaping into more of a smirk now, âDid you really think she loved you?â The kind pretense heâd put on for Shizuo was no longer up with the addition of Koyuki in the picture.
What a shame. We couldâve had fun together.
âIâm just trying to save an innocent girl from Shizu-chan here,â Izaya added further, accompanied with a dramatic sigh as he got back on his feet.
Shizuoâs sharp gaze followed his every move, and the fire in those amber hued eyes seemed to only burn brighter when he drew closer to Shizuo, face merely an inch away from the blondeâs. Now that was an expression Izaya was familiar with. An expression that was akin to a ticking bomb. âShould I call an ambulance in advance? This poor Koyuki-san will be broken at the end of this date, and not even in the emotional sense, but physical! Oh, take that back, maybe emotional too, since sheâll surely be traumatized.â
âDonât.â
âNo matter how different you may have sounded on the phone, the reality is that monsters simply canât and wonât change!â
There was warmth wrapping around his hand. Not the kind youâd think. It was the kind of warmth that tightened, brought discomfort with each taunt that fell from his lips. But Izaya wasnât a coward. He didnât retrieve his hand, instead smiled through the cracking noise that he swore came from their intertwined hands, not the grind of his teeth that he attempted to hide as pain shot up his body.
âMy apologies for ruining Shizu-chanâs plan to catch a meal for the day. I know monsters need their fix of delicious human meat.â Â
âI will fucking kill you,â Shizuo seethed.
There it was.
âHeâs a beast, see? Only I can handle Shizuo.â If there was a glimpse of pain on Izayaâs face, it was gone as soon as it came, his voice kept steady. âNever say that I didnât warn you, Koyuki-san.â Â
Shizuo could barely react in time before the sharp blade of a knife drove deep into the back of his palm, causing him to let go of Izayaâs out of reflex. Â
But just as his anger rose to an almost maximum, he caught sight of the fear stricken girl standing across of him.
Izaya didnât stay to see the rest.

Do you realize in the entire history of western civilization no one has successfully accomplished the roommate switch?
The Switch - chap.4
<< part 3 here >>
shizuo/izaya ( 1,039 words / fluff / humor / blind date )  âĄÂ
âIs that supposed to be a joke?â
Shizuo was hostile, as heâd expected the beast to be, recoiling from the touch almost immediately that if Izaya hadnât uncurled his fingers and move them away, he wouldâve been sent flying across the room. Of course, he wasnât fazed by it, being used to the kind of violence thrown his way over the years; his face wore a nonchalant expression as he merely arched his brows in retort.
âSuppose itâs not one, whatâd Shizu-chan do?â head angled to the side, he grinned, riling Shizuo up even more.
âI loathe you.â
It rendered him speechless, words heavily weighing on his tongue. Was he not expecting to hear that?âNo, but it certainly wasnât pleasant. Shizuo shouldâve expressed his gratitude, bowing at Izayaâs feet for saving him from the embarrassment that is being stood up by your date, especially with the sort of disastrous public and dating reputation that Shizuo held. Neither of them tore their gaze away from each otherâs, even when the waiter came to deliver a dish that seemed much too simple, small portioned but probably rather expensive. Shizuo wonât be the one paying for this, that was for sure.

shizuo/izaya ( 1,704 words / fluff / humor / blind date )  âĄ
âIt is what happened.â
Izaya raised his index finger up, ring glinting under the dim light of the restaurant as the crimson colored wine in his glass he sloshed in a lazy manner, similar hued eyes remained locked with the person in front of him. His lips were quirked up in a smile despite how out of place this date with his nemesis seemed, one of the genuine kind at thatâ which was the main cause of the puzzled expressions among the patrons that hadnât fled the scene just yet. They definitely reminded him of children; daring to put risk to their lives just to satisfy their curiosity, even going as far as to snap a few pictures of the infamous duo.
âThereâs no proof that youâre not her. Hell, even your secretary thinks so! I think this is just another one of your shitty tricks,â Shizuo seethed from anger, taking a moment before downing the fifth gulp of his drink to cool himself down. Really, it was a wonder how the glass was still in-tact; not broken into shards and digging into his skin, or how there was no sawdust from destroyed furniture making him cough up his lungs. Izaya found that to be marvelous; absolutely fascinating.
Who was Shizuo trying to impress by staying level-headed? It couldnât possibly be for his public image, since that had been tainted since day one. Then, perhaps Shizuo was lying through his teeth, perhaps he still held a belief that a real girl would come strolling along sooner or laterâ which sounded like a more plausible answer compared to the first one, and Izaya would have ended up sputtering, howling with laugher even, if he wasnât reminded of the ticking bomb in front of him. They would break out into their usual cat and mouse chase if he was to play the wrong cards, and of course, that wouldnât be good for him.
This date still had more chances to pan out into something good.
