Genuine faith question, but why do you not want someone using tone tags with you? Do you find it infantalizing or is it a different reason? (I thought tone tags were helpful for people to understand tone in text, but I understand if it's different for y'all)
a few reasons!
it fucks with our psychosis and paranoia, especially ones like "/gen". we've seen people do things like "hello! /gen" or "good job! /gen", and it kicks our paranoia into overdrive and makes us start wondering if they're lying and trying to hide it by putting a tone tag on, if every time anyone says something without a tone tag that they're being deceitful and trying to hurt us, and so on. so we try to nip that in the bud by asking people to not use any tone tags with us at all
yeah, we kinda find it infantilizing
there's so many of them, and we have memory issues. we dislike it when people say "oh, then use a guide!" because that means we're having to go to an external place to have a conversation, it feels like we're being excluded from the conversation, and kind of defeats the purpose of them being tools for accessibility
sometimes, the use of them feels performative. it bugs us when someone constantly uses tone tags when talking to us but ignores or disregards us when we tell them what we actually need for accommodations. this doesn't happen all the time, but the few times it has has tainted our relationship with tone tags
a lot of them aren't tones. "nobody here" is not a tone. it should not be called a tone tag. yes, this is our autistic literal thinking coming into play, but it bugs us so incredibly much
in short, the idea of tone tags is nice, and i guess i can see why they would help some people, but they're not one-size-fits-all and rather than helping us, they just cause more problems for us. we don't want tone tags used when talking to us, and we're not really able to use tone tags when talking to others, but we will clarify our tone in brackets or with another sentence if asked to do so
