I decided to take a break from playing Dont Starve tonight and draw some of my favorite characters in a little scene together
There's a Wolf
āThereās a wolf,ā says Little Red, staring out the kitchen door.
Neither parent looks up. Her mother continues packing Little Redās basket, while her father continues polishing his boots. Both choose not to respond.
āThereās a wolf,ā mutters Little Red, to herself.
āā
Some time later, her mother is pushing the basket into her arms. āTake this to your grandmaās house, sheās sick.ā
āI canāt,ā Little Red replies.
Her mother folds her arms, giving her child a stern look. āAnd why not?ā
āThereās a wolf.ā
āThereās no wolf, youāre just being lazy.ā
āItās right there!ā Little Red points at the large creature on the edge of the property.
Her mother doesnāt look. Instead, she huffs and gets Little Redās father, all while muttering about disobedient children.
Her father is less impressed when he enters the room. āYour mother says you refuse to help your sick grandma?ā
āThereās a wolf,ā repeats Little Red. āIt lives in the woods. It will get me.ā
Her father sighs. āThereās no wolf, you have an overactive imagination.ā
Little Red stares at the wolf on the edge of the property.
The wolf stares back.
āCould you walk with me?ā She asks.
Her father doesnāt sigh again, but he looks like he wants to. āIām not ruining all the polishing on my boots that I just did because you want to play make believe. Now take that basket to your grandmaās.ā He turns away firmly, not letting her argue back.
Little Red picks up the basket. It feels like itās half her weight and she can barely keep it above the ground. When she looks up, the wolf has disappeared.
āā
The woods are dark. Theyāre always dark, whether itās day or night. The trees are too dense to let light in.
Little Red wheezes while carrying her basket. Grandmaās house feels further than ever. She keeps marching forward though.
She doesnāt stray from her path. She doesnāt get distracted by the pretty flowers. No, her eyes are too focused on the shadows flickering on the edges of the walkway.
Itās because of that, that she notices immediately when one of the shadows becomes more solid. It turns to look at her with familiar sickly yellow eyes, and a haunting toothy grin.
Little Red flinches. āA wolf,ā she whispers.
She doesnāt continue to look at the shadows, instead, she runs.
āā
Itās some time later that she runs into a large man with an axe.
āThereās a wolf!ā Little Red cries out to him with the tiny amount of breath still in her lungs.
āThereās no wolf,ā says the lumberjack.
āItās right there!ā She points at the creature who dogged her every step of the way.
The man doesnāt look. He continues bringing his axe down on the tree in front of him. āThereās no wolf,ā he repeats, āthereās never been a wolf in these woods. If there was, I wouldāve seen it.ā
āYou could see one right now.ā Little Red continues pointing at the wolf whose grin only grows bigger.
The man shakes his head. āYou must be seeing a dog. Thereās no wolf.ā He brings his axe down again. āNow run along.ā
āCan I stay here?ā Little Red tries to look up at him with pleading eyes, āI donāt feel safe.ā
He doesnāt spare her a glance. āChildren shouldnāt be near axes. Keep moving.ā
He probably wouldnāt even look if she started screaming. The wolf seems to sense this too, as it starts descending on Little Red, no longer bothering to hide in the shadows.
Little Red reacts immediately and runs again. Her feet hitting the ground reverberating with the chopping of the man who doesnāt look away from his tree.
āā
Eventually, Little Red makes it to her grandmaās house. Even though she canāt feel the nipping of the wolf behind her anymore, she still throws herself at the door in a panic.
Sheās caught off the guard when the door flings open with her weight. She doesnāt have time to prepare herself for hitting the floor, and all the air rushes out of her. The contents of the basket she carried all way there spill out onto the ground.
āOh, be careful dear!ā
Little Red pushes herself up, ready to plead with another adult for safety, when her blood freezes.
There, stands Granny, whoās now furrier than she remembers. Who now has bigger ears. Who now has a longer face. Who now has sharper nails. Who looks at her with familiar in all the wrong ways yellow sickly eyes and a haunting toothy grin.
āAfter all,ā continues āGrannyā, āThereās a wolf.ā

Been playing a lot of Donāt Starve latley. Iāve fallen in love with this axe loving, tree hating Canadian man.Ā
Night of the Full Moon Character Reviews: The Carpenter(s) and the Lumberjack(s)
After yesterdayās events, I decided to push my reviews of these characters way up.
Just a note that at this point, Iām going to just sum up descriptions.Ā Some of them get to be really longg and sort of redundant in their wording.Ā Ā
The Carpenter/The Werewolf
The Carpenter, Jerry, is a character Red might meet in the first chapter.Ā Heās usually very weak and a quick battle.Ā I canāt even remember his attacks.Ā His reason for fighting you is heās worried about your safety.Ā When he talks to you, you can either choose to thank him, tell him youāll protect yourself, or disregard him.Ā If you thank him, he stops himself from saying something.Ā If you disregard him, heās hurt.
Woke up to a long, 2am voicemail from the boy telling me all the reasons he loves me and actually cried it was so corny-sweet.
