Scout

Immediate reaction? Oh God oh fuck.

Remember how he was with Miss Pauling? Yeah. Imagine that but worse because he sees you every day.

Despite already being best friends, don’t be surprised if things get a bit awkward once he registers his feelings. It would be so obvious that something is up because he goes from either trying to show off more than usual to being downright sheepish if he words something wrong and you playfully call him out on it.

If you’re in matches together… don’t be surprised if he gets a tad bit distracted. Poor guy probably ends up getting one hell of a talking to later on by some of the other mercs. Medic especially. (He has other people to look after, after all!)

It’s pretty 50/50 on how he goes about it. Either he’s eventually called out on it and feels forced to admit to it (not that that’s a bad thing - he definitely needs that push sometimes), or he might just hold out for a bit until he completely gives in.

Odds are the admission might be a bit sheepish in itself. He talks a big game, but being so close to someone before developing feelings makes it all the more terrifying, even if he doesn’t want to admit that.

Soldier

When he starts to feel affection, everyone, and I mean everyone is going to know very quickly.

He is not quiet about it. In fact, he makes it damn clear that he’s got his eyes on you. Don’t take that the wrong way - mercenary or not he won’t be creepy about it, he’s just… very eager and very blunt. His main volume is Loud and Assertive.

When we talk about mercenaries who end up protective over you, good LORD is he one of the top dogs. Sure, you can absolutely fight for yourself and he loves that about you - it’s insanely attractive to him. That doesn’t mean he won’t be protective himself though.

Assuming the affection is returned, he can also be surprisingly very sweet in his own way. Sure, maybe it’s not exactly the most orthodox, but it’s still very clearly meant to be sweet compared to how he usually is.

Also, if you join him on any drills he may do? Bonus points for you. I won’t say he’ll necessarily go easier on you, but he will be sweeter to you about it after the fact. If you end up sore from the workout he’ll help you soothe the pains a bit. (Again, probably won’t be in a normal way, but by God does he get an A for effort.)

Pyro

Pyro is very… quiet about their emotions. Granted, they’re pretty quiet about a lot of things, but especially in regards to their feelings for and about you.

They’re much more observant and careful than most people give them credit for. They watch out for you, try to judge your own feelings, and they try not to come off as too much.

They’re well aware of the presence they have around others, and though they’re also smart enough to realize that you know them better than most and you’re the farthest thing from a stranger, that doesn’t mean some old worries and concerns may not crop up.

They’ll be very careful about how they approach the topic. Though sign language is not uncommon for them, they’d probably handle it more with a written note in this circumstance. It would be a little easier for them to get their thoughts out that way and they can be sure they word things properly.

If you don’t accept them in that way, that’s totally okay. If you do though, they’ll be so clearly relieved and excited over it. 

Truthfully I don’t see much changing with Pyro, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. They really feel like the definition of dating my best friend, and everything would feel totally comfortable between the two of you.

Demoman

Though he doesn’t seem like it to an outsider, Demoman is definitely an emotional man at times. He’s much more prone to feeling and showing emotion than a lot of the other mercenaries are and though he doesn’t let it interfere with his job, it sure does get in the way once he realizes he has a crush on his best friend and teammate. 

It would be a bit hard for him to handle, at first. I won’t say he’d handle it horribly negatively, but it’s definitely very clear that something is bothering him. When asked he’d brush it off as if it was all well and good.

“Aye lad, I’m all well ‘n good. Nothin’ ta worry about.” It’s not exactly the most convincing to you however, considering how well you know him by that point. Still, it’s best not to push him on such matters.

Eventually, he would give in and come to you and try to explain it. It would be almost funny, in a way. He clearly practiced what he wanted to say and yet despite that, he’d still manage to fumble a bit. It would only be when he got frustrated enough that he’d buckle down and get out with it entirely.

If you were to accept his affections, the immediate sigh of relief would no doubt be pretty funny at the very least. Please don’t laugh though, the man really had to work up to this. Might chastise himself for being so worried in the first place.

Heavy

At first, it starts more as a fondness that he can almost mistake as something similar to how he feels for his family.

By this, I mean he finds himself wanting to protect you more and more. He knows that as a merc, you’re more than capable of looking out for yourself. That doesn’t make him any less inclined to do what he needs to do to be certain that you’re okay.

Eventually, he comes to accept that this is different from the concern he shows for his family. Similar, sure, but a whole different form of love that he hadn’t really allowed himself to experience due to both his job and his need to care about those closest to him.

Now though, he realizes that you’re also one of those closest to him. As intelligent as he is, he would still find it difficult to navigate at first. He grew up needing to be strong. He grew up needing to be focused and determined. Emotions past those weren’t something he had allowed himself to dabble in much.

You’d probably need to give the man a bit of time even if you noticed it before he was ready to come to you about it. Being a man of so few words more often than not, he’d want to take his time to figure out just what he needs to say and how to say it. He’ll come to you once he feels prepared enough though.

Engineer

Oh my, when Engineer starts to realize his affections for you are growing he’s equally concerned and excited.

See, the concern comes from the fact he realizes it probably isn’t exactly the best idea to get so close and attached to someone he works with. On one hand, it’s not like none of the other mercenaries get close to one another, some more than others, but on the other hand what if something goes wrong?

He won’t fret too much - he just has a tendency to think about the implications of what he does and when he does them, if only to save him a bit of grief in the long run. That and he’d like to save you a bit of grief as well. The last thing he’d want to do is make you insanely uncomfortable or awkward around him. 

He’s the most likely to just calmly lay it all out on the table with you, probably when the two of you are next alone. He’ll speak matter of fact and gently, and he’ll make it damn clear that if you don’t feel the same he won’t pursue you. He’d want you to know immediately that your feelings come first in this situation. Polite as ever.

If you don’t accept his advances? That’s alright, he’d apologize for the trouble and go on his way. To his credit, he’s far mature enough to not let it get between the friendship you already have. If you do accept, however, he’d be over the moon. He’ll be a real sweetheart.

Medic

Medic would come to realize his affections rather easily, actually.

However, the way he handles it is what’s a bit… Interesting, to say the least. First off he’s going to test the waters with you almost immediately. What does that mean? Probably his own brand of flirting. (Which comes off more like a subtle tease than anything - very roundabout with just that hint of there being something under the surface.)

Should reception be good enough, he’s likely to become a bit clingy in his own way. Considering his experiments, it would not be unlikely for him to try and convince you into allowing him to make some modifications on anything he has already done to you just to make you a bit safer than even the others.

Even if it may come off as a little off putting, don’t take it poorly. He won’t force the matter, even if he continues to ramble a bit about all the pros vs the supposedly very few (albeit probably terrible) cons. 

He would be overjoyed if you at least visited him a bit more often in his office, so long as he’s not extremely busy. He’d tell you more about his processes and work than he tells just about anyone, and that’s saying something! 

Sniper

Sniper is far from stupid, but when he starts to feel affection for you he’d be rather slow to admit to it. In fact, it’s downright self denial for a while.

It’s not that he’s ashamed of his feelings for you. Not by a long shot. He just doesn’t really have it in him to admit to such a thing when for the longest time, he’s kept such specific goals in mind. He never really took into consideration that he might fall for anyone, much less someone he works with.

It’s a very slow start, and one that he may not even notice happening whereas the other mercenaries would. He talks with you a bit more, sticks around you for just a little longer than he would the others before needing a break from the social atmosphere, etc. It’s small, slow changes that he himself wouldn’t have taken notice of if not pointed out.

It would probably become clear to you pretty quickly that he’s taken a shine to you specifically. In matches, for instance, he seems to take out enemies far too close to you suspiciously often. It’s best not to call him out on that though unless you want to hear him go on about how he’s just doing his job.

All in all, it would probably have to be you who would have to approach him if you reciprocate those feelings. He isn’t exactly the best at coming forward with more emotion driven topics.

Spy

To say that this was unexpected to him would be an understatement, truth be told.

Sure, he prides himself as charming and suave, but he didn’t exactly expect to be charmed so seemingly easily by you.

Of course, that’s not to say he didn’t find you charming in your own way to begin with - it just seems so… natural for you, an allure that he simply couldn’t contend with even with his own charm, and -

Shit. Yeah, he should have seen this coming actually. He’d probably chastise himself quite a bit, if only for the fact that he let himself be caught so off guard in a way that seems so totally unlike him.

He will remain highly secretive of his feelings however, at least amongst the other mercenaries. Like hell is he letting any of them figure it out.

He will probably keep one hell of a close eye on you during matches once those feelings set in. He’ll still do his job, but if he must stick to the shadows just a bit longer to keep an enemy away from your back, well. A bit of wasted time is an acceptable sacrifice.

When I first showed up, Mr. Conagher showed me around the place, telling me what the job was and what was expected in specific when it came to my new duties.  He’d supplied the name ‘Dell Conagher’ when I’d left my ‘mister’ trail off to leave him room to, hand outstretched to shake.  But when he’d accepted my hand and shook it warmly, he quickly added “but around here they call me ‘Engie’ or ‘Engineer’”.  He’d introduced me to the others we met along the way, most of them having job titles instead of names, and only the ‘Soldier’ paid me any mind, calling me a ‘maggot’ and telling me I needed a haircut.  The others looked right over or through me, and went about their business.  The ‘Scout’ had been down the hall and turning the corner, and I was told it was probably best that way, seeing as we didn’t have much time to indulge his bag of hot air.  Then we got to the room marked with a red cross– the infirmary– and I met Dr. Ludwig, who took several minutes to give me explicit directions on when I would be and wouldn’t be allowed to enter, and exactly what I was and wasn’t allowed to touch in this room when I was.  He spoke rapidly in clipped syllables with a thick German accent and there was something very crazed in his face and gestures that unnerved me.  I don’t mind that he doesn’t talk to me much when I’m in there nowadays.  I imagine he doesn’t mind that I don’t ask questions about the messes I find in there.

I don’t mind much that none of them talk to me when we run into each other whilst I’m working.  It’s the nature of the job– theirs and mine.  Nine rough mercenaries killing nine other mercenaries day in and day out makes a lot of messes none of them have much time or energy to clean up.  That’s where I come in, and if they notice when the floors are mopped or the bathrooms and kitchens are cleaned and smell fresh, I don’t hear about it.  I may as well be a ghost haunting the place– in fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the mercs talking to a few ghosts around here, but they don’t say anything to me.  It’s fine, really.  The work gets done and I get paid– that’s all that needs to happen, I guess.  It’s not glamorous; it’s greuling, unforgiving, and nasty, but somebody has to do it.  Them not talking to me means I go without notice and nobody hassles me or eats up my time with inane social pleasantries.  Time is money, and I don’t have enough of either.  That’s why I have four jobs– two of them full-time.

The job at the moment is latrines, and it’s quiet now that the brassy voice over the speakers has announced the end of the round– whatever that’s supposed to mean.  What it means for me is that the mercs are coming back for a few minutes to finish recovering from wounds or respawn, grab a bite to eat, and hit the head.  Usually nobody bothers with a shower until after the last round of the day.  I’ve got the new, wrapped, latrine rolls stacked precariously high on the top shelf of my cart.   It’s restock day, and I don’t always know what these mercs are eating, but they can go through some paper.  Maybe they’re using it for something other than wiping their arses.  I don’t pay for it, so I don’t mind as long as they don’t back up the pipes or teepee the place with it.  The cart and I are in the corridor, positioned outside the swinging range of the latrine door, and I am arranging my bottles of industrial cleaners and assorted rags and cleaning tools when someone hurries past, trying to squeeze between me and the cart and the wall, at speed.  I get jostled into the cart, which knocks over the tower of toilet roll, sending them rolling all across the hall.

“Aw crap,” Calls the offender from the far end of the hall.  It’s the Scout, who is hesitating just long enough to say it, his brows furrowed and expression pained, “Sorry, Jack, but I gotta beat feet, okay?  I owe you one!”  Then he’s gone.

It threw me off, to be honest.  It was annoying to be bumped, and annoying to have to pick up the scattered rolls again, but it was strange that the energetic merc had even noticed.  Had bothered to apologize…

“There y’are, Jacky,” Chuckles the Demoman with a friendly smile to accompany his brogue, replacing a stack of three rolls he’d apparently picked up behind my back somewhere on his way past.  I stare after him, stunned, slowly moving to place the final roll I’d collected from the floor when a hand reaches over my head– all of these mercs are taller than me by a good bit– to grab the current one on top and pluck it off.

“Cheers, mate.”

I freeze like a cornered cat, staring with wide eyes, back and shoulders hunched up.  The Australian Sniper moves past the cart and swings open the bathroom door before recoiling back.

“Augh, strewth!  You’ll want to wait a tic before comin’ in, Jack-o.  ‘S like somethin’ died in here!  Need t’open a window, bloody hell…!” He goes in and the door swings shut behind him again.

What the hell was going on?  Was it something I was wearing?  No, couldn’t be, I was dressed the same as always in the work coveralls.  Taking several steps back from the cart, not sure where I mean to go, but only thinking I ought, I have a queer feeling that something is just behind me– the little hairs at my nape standing on end– and I freeze.

“... Good instincts.” Says a voice directly behind and above me, distinctly French accented, accompanied by the smell of cigarette smoke, and my hackles are up again.  Of all the men here to almost back into, it’s the sneaky one paid to stab others in the back.  The Spy.

“S-s…” I mean to apologize, but he’s already walking around me and the cart, waving my attempt away dismissively on his way down the hall.  He easily sidesteps to avoid the charge from behind of the other masked person, who looks over their shoulder at me and waves one gloved hand with a “Mmp-hoh!” before rushing around the corner to follow the Scout. That would be Pyro… the… Pyromaniac?  Is… is that their job?  How do you get hired for that gig?

“Ah, you’re here!” Greets Dr. Ludwig– or ‘Medic’ as he’s more usually addressed– striding down the corridor with the large Heavy Weapons expert– the Russian ‘Heavy’-- in tow.  They are both of them men with impressive presence that seems to shrink the corridor, and Heavy’s is more physical and literal, so I quickly move my cart so as to give them more room to pass as well as keep from blocking the Sniper in the latrine. “I appreciated your leaving me a few extra sanitized containers in the infirmary last time.  As soon as my delivery comes in, they will be of much use!  Have you been through today, yet, Herr Jack?”

“Y-yeah…” I stammer, glancing up, up at the mountain of a man looking down at me from behind the Medic.

He nods at me, curt, but not cold, “Jack.”

My name is not Jack.   My job title is ‘Facility Management and Maintenance’ which is a fancy way to say ‘janitor and general repairs’.  When meeting Mr. Conagher–Engie– that first time, I hadn’t given a name, and he hadn’t asked for one.  He’d asked instead what my work experience looked like, and I’d told him that I’d done a bit of everything.

“Oh, a jack-of-all-trades type, huh?” He’d smiled, and I’d agreed that that was a pretty accurate way to put it.  Then he’d asked me whether I was familiar with gunfire and explosions, and could work with that kind of ruckus going on, and we’d just never got back around to talking about my name, I guess.  I don’t mind.  ‘Jack’ is a fine moniker.  Better than being called ‘Janitor’ or shortening that to ‘Jan’ or something.

The cussing beyond the latrine door is more alarmed than disgusted, now, so I assume the Sniper found the source of the smell.  Whatever it is, it’s my job to take care of it, so I push my way in with my cart.  The windows near the top of the far wall had been opened– all three of them– and I can admit to being a little grateful.  For one, he’s right: it stinks something awful in here.  For two, to open those windows myself requires climbing somehow– sometimes using the cart, sometimes just grabbing the windowsill well and scrabbling up the painted brick and tile.  As the second tallest person on the base, the Aussie’s heels probably don’t even have to leave the floor to do the same thing.

There’s what looks to be the mangled remains of a human arm caught in one of the toilet bowls, and from the advanced decay and damage, I realize I have my work cut out for me and the daily cleaning is on the back-burner for now.

“How’d it even get in here?” The Sniper is taking care of his business in the next stall.  Before today, I would have been sure his question was rhetorical… but apparently everyone is talking to me today…

“The pipes.” I say, “So don’t flush or you’ll get the rest in your pot… if it doesn’t back up entirely.”

“Uh… you sure about that, mate– Wait… ‘the rest’?”

“Yeah.”

This might be the only place I’d ever worked where I have to spend a good chunk of the day disassembling half of a building’s plumbing to dig limbs and viscera out of it.  It takes me until the last round to dredge it all out: one left arm, one lung that might be human and… might not be… and something pale, organic, and spongy that I don’t bother trying to identify.  I’ll probably never know whether they ended up in the pipes by accident or if someone improperly disposed of them…

Nobody is happy that the latrines aren’t clean in time for their end of day showers.  Including me, who’s drenched with more chemicals and bodily fluids than I care to consider.   Damn.  Well, that’s how it goes: it was tough, nasty work, but somebody had to do it.

This is the perfect gift. 

There, right in front of your eyes, is a brand new copy of Electric Ladyland. Demo is a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix. 

You never thought the Teufort record store would have a copy, and here it is!

“Hey, that's it right there, huh?” Sniper asks from behind you. 

“Yes! Oh my God, he’s going to be so excited!”

It's become somewhat of a nightly tradition to gather around the telephone with the little transistor radio you bought. Demo insisted on calling up the local rock station every night and requesting anything by Jimi Hendrix just to be able to hear his music. 

“I've tried putting an order in and those boggin’ wallapers won't send it out here! What’s so hard to find about our base?!” Demo had ranted once to you both, your head on his chest and Sniper’s arms around your waist. 

Since then you'd searched long and hard, tried to have it sent in with an arms shipment, spoken to Miss Pauling about it. Jimi Hendrix is in high demand, it seems, and each time your requests were rejected. 

But now, here it is, shiny and plastic wrapped right in front of you.

“Let’s get this thing and head on back. Good thinkin’, darl.”

With the record in one hand and Sniper’s hand in the other, you stroll out of the store and up into his van.

“And the drinks are in the back, right?”

Sniper nods.

“Ach, come on, ye two! Yer gonna miss my song!” 

“What song did’ya ask for tonight?” Sniper asks Demo and he smiles and kisses your hand then kisses Sniper’s hand.

“Whatever they had. I dinnae think they have anything new o’ his yet,” Demo grumbles. When he looks away you and Sniper share a sneaky little grin. You’re both pulled into the rec room and sat down on the couch on either side of Demo, pressed against his sides. He’s holding the radio in his hand.

You catch the last few seconds of some Doors song and then the radio announcer speaks up.

“And next we have a request from our Scottish Jimi Hendrix fan. Thanks for calling in, man.. again...” he doesn’t sound as enthusiastic as Demo is feeling for the song coming up. “Here’s May This Be Love.”

The song starts and Demo shuts his eyes, and wraps an arm around each of you. And then, he sings along quietly.

You can smell spiced liquor and the faintest whiff of cologne, one his mother sent for his birthday, emanating off of him. It’s a small comfort, and you wrap your arms around Demo’s waist.

It’s over far too soon and when the song fades out Demo plants a kiss on the top of your head, and then kisses Sniper, too.

“We got you a gift today,” you say. “It’s out in the van.”

“Oh?” he gives you a toothy grin. “What kind of surprise are ye talking about?”

“Nothing like that,” Sniper scolds Demo but it’s all in jest. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”

“What are we waiting for, then? Let’s go!” Demo rises up to his feet, dragging you both along through the base and out the back door towards the van. 

It’s sometimes hard to fit three mercenaries in the camper van but you make it work by taking a seat on the stairs up to the loft bed.

“Alrighty, what is it? I’m on the edge o’my seat!”

“It was all their idea,” Sniper remarks, nodding towards you and pulling out the record. For a moment Demo just stares but then his eye widens.

“Ach! Ye two- how did ye find this?!” Demo shouts, glancing between you and Sniper with a huge grin.

“A lot of patience. And luck,” you smile, too, his grin contagious. In the blink of an eye Demo’s launching himself at you and hugging you tightly, pulling you into his chest. When he pulls away he covers you in kisses, and then gives you one last big squeeze.

“Hey, hey, Sniper took me into town for it. If he hadn’t thought of going earlier I don’t think we would’ve found it,” you laugh into his shoulder. 

Sniper’s standing and actually smiling, too, watching you both behind his tinted shades.

“Come here, ye braw rogue,” Demo calls him over and the two exchange a kiss. When they break apart he rushes to slide the two vinyls from their case, and then puts the first one on the little record player and turns the volume up. Sniper wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close.

“I love you two,” he says at last, and then kisses you and then kisses Sniper one more time.

“We got drinks, too. But you don’t seem as excited about those,” Sniper hums.

Scout

CLINGY. This boy will cling to you like a little koala and while it’s cute, you better hope you don’t have anything important to do. Scout is nearly the DEFINITION of touch starved and like hell will you be going anywhere without some serious persuading.

Will absolutely talk your ear off while he has your full attention. In his defense, he feels he rarely has someone’s undivided attention, so of course he’d want to take advantage of that when he’s able.

That’s not to say he won’t let you talk, just don’t be surprised if you have to listen to him boast a bit about how well he did in fights that day. 

Talking aside, he’s also probably a bit touchy. It’s almost awkward in the very beginning though he means no harm, he just loves physical affection more than he would let on. 

He’s very likely to want to lounge around in bed with you just enjoying each other’s company. He’s a very active guy, sure, but once you have him settled down enough sometimes it’s hard to actually get him back up until he’s ready.

Soldier

Soldier is a very… interesting case. It’s hard to get him to settle down enough to cuddle with you, though it’s never anything against you so much as it just being how he is as a person.

Often up SUPER early in the morning and sleeping relatively early to compensate for that, but if you catch him at the right time he won’t mind the company.

Surprisingly not very talkative (at least, not at night - he’s very focused with his routine for the most part), but in the morning if you wake up along with him you’re probably getting a rather intense pep talk whether you want it or not.

Back to actual cuddling though - like, 7/10 times he’s going to want to be the big spoon. Sometimes he actually enjoys being the focus of affection, but a lot of the time he has a pretty protective instinct about him. Would rather have his back to the door and the like. 

Not actually that bad to cuddle with as long as you don’t mind his rather strict routine. Uses his strength in a more comforting way surprisingly, holding you close with just enough pressure to feel secure.

Pyro 

Like Soldier, they actually have a pretty strict routine as well. Not like his strict, but in terms that they need to go to bed and wake up at pretty specific times. More for their comfort than anything like Soldier’s, however.

If you’re willing to join them in their routine, they are more than happy for the company. Assuming they sleep without all of that gear on, they probably prefer to have your back to them while cuddling. It’s not that they’re uncomfortable or distrust you with seeing them - again, it’s just a comfort thing for them. If you really insist on facing them once in a while, that’s okay as long as you ask first.

Obviously not all too talkative, more of a sign language or muffled talker than someone who likes to speak clearly. That’s not to say there’d be silence however. They’d probably hum a little tune if anything while rubbing at your arm or side.

A bit touchy, but in a soothing way more than anything else. They like the physical reminder that someone is there with them, considering how uncommon that probably has been for them.

If you can’t wake up when they do, that’s alright! They won’t force you, though they will at least wake you to make you aware that they’re leaving once they’re all geared up and ready to go. You’ll be free to doze back off after that.

Demoman

Considering how he’s something of an emotional drunk, I could honestly see him being a bit of a cuddly one too under the right circumstances.

Whether he’s drunk or not, sometimes he just finds himself wanting that kind of physical affection. 

Definitely one of the most likely to stay in bed late with you, I could see him being a tad bit clingy in the right situation. Surprisingly pretty gentle, too.

DEFINITELY going to either be cracking jokes while cuddling or complaining about the day if it was bad enough to warrant it, but odds are it would come back around to joking.

Will probably doze off before you though, and don’t be too surprised if there’s no getting up after that. He WILL cling in his sleep and once he has you in his arms you won’t be going anywhere for a while even if he were to wake up.

Heavy

Space heater. This man is 100% a space heater. Very comfortable to cuddle with actually, 10/10.

Joking aside, it would probably surprise you the first time you settled in together just how comfortable he was to be cuddling with. Not only is he just in general careful with you, he does what he needs to make the positioning comfortable for you as well.

Odds are, you’re probably much smaller than him, so he prefers to lay on his back and have you curled up in his arm and curled against his chest. It feels safest for you in his mind and it’s also a bit more comfortable as well.

Very quiet, especially when settling in for the night. He probably likes to read before bed on some nights, so if you ask he may read to you to help you sleep. Sure, you probably won’t understand it unless you know Russian, but it’s still nice to listen to him.

Will probably have to rouse you awake if he has to get up before you do in the morning, but won’t make you leave his quarters if that’s where you are. He’d honestly just feel a little guilty if he were to just up and leave.

Engineer

Look. Engie is polite. Engie is soft spoken and often rather sweet. Engie is still a killer. You know what else he has though? A teddy bear cosmetic. You absolutely cannot tell me this man is NOT a cuddler when given the opportunity, sorry.

He’s 50/50 on how talkative he might be. He typically prefers to listen to you if you have something to say, but sometimes he may have something of his own, whether it’s involving work or even something as simple as how he missed you.

He’s in the habit of laying on his left side so that he can drape his right arm over you - less likely that you end up laying uncomfortably on or against his prosthetic that way.

If you’re cuddling before bed, he prefers to wait to doze off until after you have. As long as he’s not too worn down from a job, he usually is perfectly capable of outlasting you. A man with that many PHDs does NOT get away without training themselves to stay awake.

Likewise, you’ll probably wake up to find him already awake nine times out of ten. He doesn’t mind waiting for you to wake up so long as he isn’t immediately needed, and you’ll probably wake up to him soothingly rubbing your back.

Medic

Admittedly, it’s rather difficult to pull Medic away from his work long enough to get him to cuddle with you.

That’s not to say he never will, of course! More just he’ll need a lot of persuading if he’s not ready to settle in just yet. 

Don’t be surprised if he talks a bit while cuddling, even if it’s topics that usually aren’t exactly cuddling topics. He likes to talk about his work and any new revelations he’s made, please humor the guy.

The more tired he gets though, the more relaxing he is to listen to surprisingly. Sometimes he slips a bit into his native tongue, murmuring words you may not quite understand (depending), but the tone itself is enough to be soothing.

Usually likes to sleep chest to chest, and he’s actually overly warm, so great to cuddle with on colder nights.

Sniper

Sniper takes the longest of the men to actually allow you close enough to cuddle with him.

It’s not necessarily an aversion to touch, more just an instinct he had driven into him due to his job. Stay away, keep a close eye, and don’t let anyone catch you vulnerable or you end up dead.

Needless to say it’s something of an achievement once he finally gives you the proximity you want, and it’s probably a bonus that he has his own little space in his camper. Not a lot, sure, but still easier for him to be vulnerable in than among the other mercs.

Prefers to keep quiet himself, but doesn’t mind if you idly chat.

He will always find himself being the big spoon though, preferably with your back to his chest. If you ever really want to be looking at him he’ll let you, he just never really likes anyone at his own back. Instinct, y’know.

Spy

We already KNOW this man is a romantic, so if cuddling is what you want? That’s what you’ll get.

He’s the type to probably like cuddling the most either before bed or just after waking up when everything is at its most quiet.

Though he doesn’t always like to ruin the peace and quiet with too much talking, he’ll often murmur quietly to you if the mood feels right for it. Little compliments or praises mostly, even if it comes off a bit sudden.

Also very touchy, in his own way. You’ll often feel light touches of his fingers over your arm or a gentle caressing of your back.It isn’t very often he finds himself having the opportunity to really feel at ease, so he takes what he can get.
