Waited Long Enough (10th Doctor x Immortal Reader)
The hum of the TARDIS was the only sound for a moment—low, rhythmic, like the deep purring of a contented beast. Warm golden light bathed the console room, flickering off brass levers and ancient controls. He stood there, tie loosened, coat slung over a railing, watching her like she was a star he hadn’t quite charted yet.
“You’re doing that look again,” he said.
She tilted her head. “What look?”
“That one. Like you’re about to rewrite the rules of time just to amuse yourself.”
“I might,” she murmured, taking a step closer. “Depends how bored I am.”
His mouth twitched at the corner. “I could offer you a planet. A paradox. A particularly stroppy sea monster?”
She slid up to him, closer now, close enough that the scent of old books and ozone clung to his skin. “I don’t want a planet,” she said, fingers tracing the undone buttons of his shirt. “I want you. Stuck. Still. For once.”
His brows lifted, eyes narrowing. “Still? That’s not exactly my thing.”
“You’ve been everything else,” she murmured, trailing her fingers down the open line of his shirt. “Mad, brilliant, brave, impossible. Just once, I’d like to see what happens when you stop.”
He laughed—a quick, nervous thing. “That sounds dangerously close to domestic.”
She smiled like a wolf might smile. “Not quite.”
He watched her, warily intrigued. “You’re not serious.”
She smirked. “When am I ever not?”
She had his tie in her hand before he could retort, the silk slipping through her fingers like a magician’s scarf.
With a gentle but firm tug, she drew his wrists together, and he—curious creature that he was—let her. Let her tie the knot, loop it secure. Let her guide his hands up over his head like an offering.
The TARDIS, ever the accomplice, extended a pair of brass hooks from the ceiling with a soft mechanical sigh, as if amused by the whole affair.
“Traitor,” he muttered to the console.
The woman only laughed—soft, low, immortal. “She likes me better.”
She fastened the tie to the hooks, not too tight—just enough. His hands suspended, his body exposed, his breath uneven.
“You know,” he said, voice rougher now, “there are entire galaxies that would riot at the sight of me like this.”
She leaned in, her lips brushing his ear. “Let them riot.”
And then she kissed him—long, slow, unhurried. Like someone who had all the time in the universe and had chosen this exact moment to spend it on him.
His breath caught.
For all his centuries of running, of escaping, of clever tricks and near-misses, there was something disarming about the way she kissed him. No chase. No firestorm. Just her lips on his like gravity had shifted and he’d only just realized it had always pulled toward her.
She pulled back, just an inch, just enough to let him breathe—but not enough to let him think.
“I could get used to that,” he said, voice rasping low. “Though I’m not sure the laws of physics would survive it.”
She smiled, and it was the kind of smile that rewrote stars. “They’ve endured worse.”
Her hands slid down his chest, slow and exploratory, as if learning a language by touch alone. His muscles tensed under her palms—reflex, not resistance. She felt the shiver run through him.
“Still with me?” she murmured.
“I’m suspended from the ceiling,” he said dryly. “Hard to wander off.”
“Physically,” she corrected, tracing the edge of his jaw. “Your mind’s always half a galaxy away.”
He blinked, caught. She knew him too well.
“Not now,” he said finally.
“Good.”
She moved to straddle his lap in the chair—unhurried, weightless. She wasn’t teasing him. Not exactly. There was no cruelty in her confidence, no games in her dominance. Only certainty. This had been a long time coming. Perhaps lifetimes.
He swallowed hard. “You’re enjoying this a little too much.”
“Oh, absolutely,” she said, brushing her lips along the line of his throat. “You’ve been impossible for centuries. Do you know how many times I’ve wanted to shut you up without killing you?”
His laugh broke, breathless. “Not the most romantic declaration.”
She looked into his eyes then, her expression softer, more dangerous for it. “I’ve loved you in silence. I’ve waited while you ran from everything, including me. You call it impossible. I call it inevitable.”
His pulse thudded in his throat. He had no defense for that.
Not now.
Not with his hands tied, not with her straddling him like the throne of time itself, not with the TARDIS humming beneath them like it approved.
“Inevitable,” he echoed, quietly.
She leaned in again, lips hovering just over his. “Say stop.”
He didn’t.
Instead, he tilted his head, offering her his mouth, his breath, his silence.
And this time, when she kissed him, he kissed her back.

"Doctor, where are you now?" a voice came from the phone, "I need you here and now!"
"Donna? He-e-ey! Hi, how are you? You won't believe where I've been..." the Doctor began joyfully, but a voice from the phone irritably interrupted him, "RIGHT. NOW!"
You were sitting on the couch in the console room of the TARDIS and looked up from your book in surprise, "Donna? Is this that Donna?"
"Oh yes," the Doctor goggled his eyes, "And apparently we're flying to her right now! I know that tone."
You were excited. You knew that the Doctor had traveled with her before, and for quite a long time. Longer than you? Probably, you didn't know for sure. But you knew exactly what you were starting to worry. They were friends, he said, but were they? Maybe they were more than that? Maybe there was still something? You would never have started thinking that way right away if you weren't having feelings for the Doctor yourself.
A few months ago, you were finally able to understand this and admit it to yourself. But did he understand something? Of course not. And you weren't going to confess to him, you didn't want to spoil this wonderful, fantastic, brilliant friendship between you. Because he was wonderful, fantastic and brilliant. You've had so many incredible adventures, and you hoped there was much more to come. You didn't want to, couldn't spoil and complicate it all with most likely non-reciprocal feelings.
And yet you began to think more and more about the warm looks he gave you, how he constantly hugged you and hold your hand gently but firmly. He used to do this during your runnings, but recently he had been doing it just like that if he led you through or helped you step up somewhere. Sometimes holding you by the waist. God. You would never let go of his hand if it was possible. His hand was warm, with the tips of his long fingers being slightly cold.
But you tried to stop yourself from thinking with that he was just a tactile alien, just a person who was used to communicating with so many people quite that way. Especially with his companions. It was stupid to think that he was less nice to them than he was to you.
So, the chance to ruin everything was much, much greater than taking the risk and confessing your feelings to him.
Ten minutes later, the Doctor was knocking on Donna's door. Opening the door, she happily opened her mouth, squeaking and throwing herself into the arms of the alien.
"Doctor!!!"
"Donna!!!"
He hugged her and spun her around in his arms. Releasing her back to the ground, he took a step back to you, proudly declaring, "Y/N, this is Donna Noble, my best friend in the whole wide universe! Donna Noble, this is Y/N… My, well... Y/N L/N."
The doctor looked puzzled, quickly looking from you to Donna, as if he didn't know what else he could say about you. Whereas he called Donna his best friend. In the whole universe. Oh. It hurt you. Maybe you need to go through even more time travels and trials, but you thought, you wanted to believe that there was something special between you, that it was you who could be his best friend. But it turns out that he didn't even call you just a friend. He probably didn't want to offend with such a comparison after all.
Donna grinned at him.
"Hi, Y/N L/N!" she said, playfully pronouncing your name and looking you over. But she quickly returned to the Doctor, ceasing to smile, "So, now let's get back to business."
"Get back to what? You haven't even told me what happened to you!" The Doctor complained.
"You tell me! Why is it that so long after our adventures, some alien knocked on my door this morning and told me that my hour had finally come and tomorrow I would be honored and taken to the wedding? What sort of wedding?? I've had enough of running around with you from other aliens in a wedding dress, you know!"
The Doctor frowned, "What alien? Describe them."
"It’s a turquoise semi-lizard. Just like on the planet..."
"Lacertius-3!" exclaimed the Doctor.
"Yes, that's right. Where you and I were captured by some local king or something..."
"Of course! And where I told him that you would become his bride, so that..."
"YOU SAID WHAT?!"
"... so that he would let us go! How do you think we got out of there?"
"Doctor..." you interjected, gently tugging at his coat sleeve, but he didn't pay attention to it given he was busy defending himself from Donna's attacks, "Doctor!"
"Hmm?" he turned to you.
"Do these Lacertises have a crest on their heads?" you asked.
"Lacertonians, not Lacertises. But yes, they do. Oh, well done, Y/N, you're learning fast from me the cognition of the universe," The Doctor chuckled approvingly, but then frowned, "But how did you know?"
You silently pointed your finger to the side, where two such lizard people were standing, who began to move towards you, "It seems we should probably-"
"RUN!" the Doctor shouted, grabbing both of you by the arms.
"No, but tell me, WHY did you promise that to that lizard king?!" Donna asked indignantly, out of breath from running.
"To save us, I told you! Well, and I didn't "promise", I just said it! And if you didn't know, and you didn't, these creatures have a habit of choosing a new partner once every hundred years..."
You barely dodged the blue beam of the blaster, and the Doctor had to jump over the guardrail.
"...but who knew that those hundred years were already coming to an end!"
"Well, YOU should have known, Mr. Smartass!" snapped Donna, sweeping a cyclist riding towards her off the road. The blasters fired a few more times after you, but you managed to turn the corner after the others in time.
You were breathing heavily, hiding in a small corner.
"Are you okay?" the Doctor asked anxiously, lightly touching your cheek, "These were most likely stun blasters, not attack blasters, but nevertheless! Did it hurt you?"
"No, Doctor, it's fine!" you assured him, running your hand over his forearm and looking into his eyes. There was a slight pause.
"I'm fine too, if anyone cares! No, just won-der-ful! Except for the fact that they want to make me the wife of some lizard! Doctor, do something about it!" demanded Donna.
You spent the rest of the day running around London, hiding from the Lacertonians as they surrounded the TARDIS and Donna's house. You sneaked your way back to the nearby cafe, from where you started to spy of the window at the TARDIS and all the lizards surrounding it and try to come up with a plan of action. The Doctor was visibly relaxed, as the whole situation did not seem too serious to him against the background of saving planets and galaxies and even "just" someone's lives. Of course, he would help, but the whole adventure was perceived by him as more of a side quest, during which he allowed himself jokes about Donna's new lizard husband and simply demonstrated a good mood from meeting an old friend.
Right now, he was sitting with you across from Donna, with his arm thrown over the couch, and eating ice cream from your bowl.
"Doctor, enough!" you jokingly protested, "You've already eaten your own, go get another portion for yourself!"
He grinned broadly, scooping up another spoonful of sherbet, "You know it tastes better this way. Besides, I don't have any Earth money!"
You moaned, pushing his spoon away from your bowl with your spoon. He deftly fended off your attack, took your spoon aside and scooped up some more ice cream, "Don't even try. I don't like weapon, but I'm definitely better at fencing than you are!"
Before you could say something indignantly, he put that spoon in his mouth, smiling innocently, lights danced in his eyes.
Donna, who was sitting opposite with a stony face, asked, "Am I bothering you two? I can invite you both to witness my apparently future wedding."
"Sorry. So, what is our plan?" the Doctor asked a little more seriously, although the smile was still playing on his lips. Before Donna could say anything, he continued, "I've already thought of everything! That!"
"A spoon...?" said still-Miss Noble, puzzled.
"Yes... Melchior! In this cafe the kitchen utensils are made of nickel silver! This alloy should reflect the rays of the P-type in its composition! Let's take some trays..."
"And lure these lizards out step by step, reflecting their paralyzing rays back into themselves!" said Donna.
"Exactly, brilliant!"
It turned out to be quite long and tedious, but Donna coped with the task best of all, in the end even stunning one of the Lacertonians with this very tray shouting "I'm not going to marry your boss!"
Laughing, the Doctor ran into the TARDIS and hugged Donna, saying, "Isn't the legendary Donna Noble the best? Oh, how I missed this!" and went to set up the spaceship for the course to the planet of the turquoise lizardmen.
"I'm warning you, it's going to take quite a long time to fly there, so you go do something… Oh no," the Doctor groaned, "They damaged the defensive system while they were trying to get in here! We need to fix it before our stop at Lacertius-3! So definitely go and get busy with something, yeah?"
That was what you did, taking a walk around the TARDIS with Donna.
"I missed it. Everything is so familiar and at the same time... unusual..." she mused, running her hand along the walls of the spaceship, "When you stop traveling with the Doctor, it starts to feel like you don't belong here anymore, even though there is such a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia, as if you have returned to your hometown or school..."
You smiled slightly, "I think he's very happy to see you and even... ready to travel with you again if you wanted to?"
"What?" asked Donna, "Oh no, my time here is over, it's your turn to enjoy it. And you seem to be doing it well," she grinned, "The Doctor's favorite companion."
"What?" it was your turn to wonder, "Didn't you hear that he called you..." your voice trembled slightly, "The best friend in the whole universe?"
She laughed, "Yes, which makes me very flattered. And the Doctor is my best friend too, even if he is far away from me now. And?"
"And... and I'm his... Y/N? Y/N L/N, to be precise, as he said."
"Yes? Would you also like to be his best-best friend? I'm sure he greatly appreciates you as a friend too, of course! It's the Doctor! I can't imagine that this man would fall in love with someone without seeing them as a close friend!"
"He would WHAT?"
"What?" Donna was no less shocked than you were, "Aren't you...? Aren't you... a thing, the two of you?"
Looking at your speechless face, Donna had an insight, "Oh, did I make a mistake? I'm sorry, Y/N, it just seemed so natural.… I wanted to ask later, but it's good that it happened between us now. I thought you liked him, I'm sorry. Are you sure it’s not the case?"
"I..." you could barely mumble it softly, feeling your cheeks fill with heat, "Like him..."
"Oh...OH," and now Donna had a final insight, "This man. This SPACEMAN. Sure. I should have known. I'll go and tell him everything..."
"What? No, no, no, what are you going to tell him??" You barely managed to stop Donna in her determined stride back to the console room of the TARDIS, where the Doctor was still fiddling with the protective field settings.
"That he's the biggest idiot in the universe. In case he didn't know about it yet, but apparently he didn't."
"What do you mean?"
Now she stopped herself, "I didn't know it makes the two of you here… Are you serious right now?"
"Don't tell me he likes me too. I mean, likes me so much so that..."
"What do you think, Y/N? From the minute he introduced you, I felt there was some other energy here. And I sense it, believe me! You've been acting like a couple the whole day. The way he held your hand, asking if everything was okay.… Oh, and the cafe? Do I really need to say that I felt like a third wheel on your date? If this isn't flirting, then what is?"
You were embarrassed, "We were just chatting and sitting there… As usual."
"And how often does he usually throw his arm around you and hugs you?"
"He what? We were just sitting next to each other! His hand was on the couch..."
"... lying almost on your shoulder. Oh, please, Y/N." Donna twisted her smile.
You were visibly confused, "I can understand all this... probably… But nothing else is happening, right?"
"And it won't happen as long as the two of you..." she began, but was pushed back against the wall of the TARDIS with you. You heard the Doctor's voice, "We're here!"
"Please don't say anything to him now! Donna, I'm serious! I'll handle this on my own, okay?" you pleaded. You still couldn't believe what she'd said, and you definitely wanted to think about it some more.
But there was really no time to continue the conversation – you were immediately captured by a series of adventures on the planet Lacertius-3: you soon met a girl of another race, the adventurer Piich, who told you that you could try to appease the lizard king with an ancient treasure, showed you the way through the red lush jungles to the temple, where you had your daily portion of running through the traps (although the most dangerous thing was enraged Donna). The ancient treasure, of course, turned out to be a product of technology from a completely different forgotten alien race (but, of course, the Doctor knew about it).
Then Piich helped you get into the king's castle, where you were hiding from the guards, running away from the guards, and eventually tried to appease the king with the treasure, who immediately forgot about it after seeing an alien girl who helped you on your travels. But did she help?
To your great luck, Piich forgot about her initial plan and about her upcoming reward, which she wanted to get by giving Donna to the lizard king, because, to even greater luck, the lizard king forgot about Donna when he saw Piich, and decided to make Piich his new wife. Unlike the human red-haired woman, this alien girl was not at all opposed to marrying the king of an entire planet, albeit modest in its size.
Everyone was left satisfied and having their feet sore. And personally, you also got the vague feeling that the Doctor was acting a little strange and distant, communicating more with Donna the rest of the day than with you.
You were invited to a feast, but you all refused it. The Doctor, because he didn't like feasts, Donna, because she found out that the king has a crown prince and wouldn’t he just dare to lay his lizard eyes on her. And you, who didn't have an appetite and mood at all because of the whole thing with the Doctor and that interrupted conversation with Donna. You decided to finish it while the Doctor was chatting lively with Piich and congratulating the future newlyweds.
"See?" You said softly to Donna, pointing to the Doctor and how he nicely communicated with Piich and hugged her tightly, "I'm far from being the only one in the universe with whom the Doctor behaves like this. Plus, I know how many companions he had. I won’t believe he was any less sweet to them than he was to me."
"You've got to believe it. Moreover, there will be another proof soon. A-a-and… now!" Donna elbowed you lightly. At that moment, the Doctor, continuing his conversation with Peach and the lizard king, began to look around the room and finally saw you and smiled so broadly. You couldn't help but smile back, and he slightly but merrily jumped up a little on the spot and continued his conversation with two aliens.
"How did you know he was going to turn around??"
"See? Secrets of the Time Lords," Donna smirked, "Seriously, Y/N, it doesn't take a minute for the Doctor to look at you, no matter where you are! Don't you notice that? If that's the case, you can thank me and take it as a sign to act at last."
You stood there, amazed once again, and your slightly numb brain could only come up with, "Yes, but... Rose?..."
Donna paused, and then continued, "What do you mean? She was... a long time ago. And as I see it, he's finally happy now again, really happy. He allowed himself to be like that. With you. Do you understand, Y/N, how he looks at you? It's not just a gaze of a friend. He laughs, smiles like a child, a happy child. And all other things he does with you. Because of you. No, just... don't argue. I’ve traveled with him and have known him for a long time to say that he has never looked at others or me like that. And he won't ever. I'm just his best friend in the whole wide universe, after all."
She smiled.
"Now go and do something about it, you two."
You were finally back on the spaceship. Before launching the TARDIS, the Doctor was leaning against the frame of the open door, dreamily but slightly sadly admiring the view of the blooming red jungle with silver flowers. You knew what he was thinking, because he often told you about his home planet.
"Just like on Gallifrey..." he said with a mixture of nostalgia and longing in his voice and added softly, "I wish I could take you there."
Your eyes met, and there was silence. Your heart skipped a beat, making you remember the conversation you had with Donna before.
"Doctor, I..."
"Well! Let's go home, then!" he interrupted you, abruptly turning deep into the TARDIS, he went to the console, intending to take off. You followed him, not knowing what exactly you wanted to say to him, but you didn't want to left the dialogue like that. But the Doctor didn't seem to be paying attention to you, fiddling with the buttons on the console with slightly trembling hands, carefully avoiding your gaze.
"Hey, Doc, wait!" said Donna, "I want to walk around here a little more. It's not that I'm visiting another planets so much these days, you know," she winked and headed outside the TARDIS.
"Wait, wait, wait, Donna, I'm going with you!" the Doctor protested and was about to left with her. Well. He didn't even want to continue the dialogue and listen to what you were going to tell him.
But still-Miss Noble turned him and said through clenched teeth, "No, Spaceman, you stay here, I want to go for a walk ALONE. Do you understand me?" she scowled at him and before the Doctor could object, she slammed the TARDIS door shut, leaving the two of you alone.
The silence returned to you again, and the Doctor came back to the TARDIS console. Usually you did not understand most of his manipulations with technology, but even you already began to feel that his actions were meaningless at that moment.
"Doctor..." you started.
"So, now we'll set up a return route and I should probably do a condition check of the ship, in case something is damaged again..." he muttered.
"Doctor!"
He turned around, there was an almost unreadable mix of emotions in his eyes, so many of them were at one point in time.
You came a little closer, "Doctor, I... want to talk to you, if I may."
"Yes, Y/N?" his eyebrows started to rise up slightly pleadingly.
"You said that Donna is your best friend in the whole universe."
"That's right!" The Doctor smiled broadly, feeling slightly relieved, thinking that this was the point of the conversation, "She's brilliant, isn't she? Now you've seen it for yourself!"
"And then who am I?"
He stopped smiling for a moment, swallowed, and then a nervous wry smile began to appear on his face along with a red color on his cheeks.
"Y-you... well, you're also my… best friend, of course!"
"Isn't the point of a best friend that there can only be one?"
"Yes!" the Doctor readily agreed.
"Then how is this possible?" you wondered.
"Well, Donna is my best platonic friend," the Doctor replied, not realizing what trap he had just walked himself into.
"What kind of friend am I, then?" you asked.
"And you... are… not platonic..." he said slowly and softly, turning even redder.
You'd just noticed that with every question and answer you took a step towards each other, and now you were inches apart. Your own cheeks started to burn from that realization.
He was so close now, you looked at his beautiful face and once again wanted to count all the freckles on it. Your gaze moved from his thin nose to his thin but sensual lips, and then to expressive eyes of the color of a melted chocolate.
"Can you explain to me it better..?" You almost whispered, raising your eyes to him.
The Doctor brought his face close to yours with his mouth slightly open and his eyelids half-closed, lightly hugged your shoulders. You began to hear his breath and the beating of his two hearts, which became louder and louder. It was all happening like in a slow motion.
And then he kissed you.
It was a very gentle and careful kiss, you could feel the tingle from his warm, slightly electrified lips, which sent goosebumps through your whole body. He pulled back a bit to see your reaction, his eyes expressing a mixture of tenderness and incredible seriousness, bordering on the almost immobility of his gaze.
Your hands moved to his waist during the kiss, and they stayed there.
"Yes." was all you said, reaching out to him and kissing him back more firmly. With a loud exhale and a light moan, he deepened the kiss, which made you want to moan yourself, increasing the degree of emotion every turning second.
It was as if his lips were made for yours, as if they were pieces of a puzzle that had once been there. Like himself as a whole, it was one big piece of the puzzle that had finally come together, completely and irrevocably.
After a lips-to-lips kiss that seemed to last forever, he ran his tongue over your lower lip, asking for permission to go inside. Did he need that permission? Of course not, but you were glad that he asked it non-verbally anyway.
You opened your mouth slightly and the Doctor, sighing noisily, slipped his tongue deep into you. It felt like some sort of a human and alien heaven already, but now it had become absolutely impossibly good. Your tongues danced with each other as your legs felt weak, your whole body seemed to melt in the Doctor's arms. Your Doctor’s arms.
Your arms, which had been hugging his neck for a long time, moved to his hair, burrowing into it. Oh, how you'd wanted to touch them for a long time. Not to ruffle them jokingly like you'd done a couple of times before, but... like this. As if you had every right to do that. Now you probably really had it now, and that made your legs even wobblier.
You pulled his hair lightly, which made the Doctor moan slightly, and you felt his arms tighten around you. It seems that both of you were ready to split into atoms from all the feelings that overwhelmed you.
It was a wonderful feeling of the nucleating supernova of your love.
"Doctor, I..." it was all you could say after that, to which he just happily exhaled, smiling broadly, looking into your eyes and gently holding your shoulders, being not able to say anything himself.
You were amazed not only by what happened, but also by how quickly it all happened. Then it began to dawn on you. You smiled a little.
"Let me guess... Did Donna talk to you too?"
While the Doctor was taking a deep breath to give some long, babbling answer, at that moment the door of the TARDIS slightly opened, from where Miss Noble herself stepped inside.
"Of course. Because how else could you two figure it out?" she replied nonchalantly, "Now I have every right to invite you two to my future wedding. NOT with an alien husband, I emphasize, otherwise I'll put you at different tables, and you'll just sit here and only be giving Y/N all the hopeless looks again, Doctor. Waiting and dying for my wedding dance all day long, so that after it you can get to and finally invite Y/N to dance or something like that!"
You laughed happily with the Doctor, still holding together and looking into each other's eyes, realizing that this just sounded like the first plan for your future together, one of the many, very many plans in this whole wide universe.
Summary: You are the Doctors companion and you struggle with BPD (borderline personality disorder). One time you have a breakdown and the Doctor tries to comfort you.
You decided with the Doctor that for the next time you will go to someplace calm, where the chance to stumble in something life threatening is almost zero. The two of you traveled to the planet of Paradost, otherwise known as The Planetary Museum, the home of a million species. You got your black leather jacket, the Doctor got his brown trench coat and you were out of the TARDIS trying to figure out where you landed.
’Aren’t we supposed to get tickets or something? I thought we are normal visitors this time’ you asked him with hands on your hips when you saw that he is going straight to one exhibition part.
’Maybe we should, yeah’ he answered looking thoughtful. ’But if you think about it, we are already in the museum, right? That means we would have to go back to the entrance and buy a ticket, but if we are in we are supposed to have one already. So it would raise suspiciousness and we could get in serious trouble.’
’Okay, than no tickets for us’ you sigh and went along with him to see the beauty of the universe.
The Doctor was so excited to be here with you, he was like a child on a Christmas morning. He often corrected the facts that where incorrect or just partially right. He would bounce from one window to another, his coat floating beside him. His spiky hair matched perfectly his excitement, and you couldn’t do anything just smile at him. You haven’t seen him this happy for a long time. Watching him made you feel a little sad, you didn’t know why though. As always, you ignored it and started to ask questions from the Doctor, because you knew he likes to be Mr. Smarty Pants.
‘How big is this museum, Doctor?’ you asked him after you noticed that time has passed way too soon.
‘Oh my dear Y/n. This whole planet is the museum’ he spread his arms and turned 360° with a wide grin on his face.
‘Then we better speed up, cause I think it’s almost closing time’ you took him by his arms and went to the other room.
‘We don’t need to hurry Y/n.’ he tried to slow you down, but after some thinking he said ‘You are right, we should get back to the TARDIS now.’
‘Thank you Doc. It’s a shame we couldn’t see everything, but maybe next time’ you smiled at him. You walked around the room arm in arm and then headed back to the blue box.
‘Are you hungry? I was about to go to the kitchen to fix something edible. You can join me if you want’ said the Doctor while opening the TARDIS door.
‘What is this Doctor? Are you inviting me to a romantic dinner?’ you teased him laughing at his face expression.
‘You are my companion. I have to take care of you, I don’t want something to happen to you.’ He said with a serious tone in his voice. ‘I don’t want you to faint from hunger or something like that.’ He smiled at you kindly while scratching his neck.
‘I see. Well you don’t need to worry about me, cause I can take care of myself. Thank you very much!’ You knew that he just wants what’s best for you, but still you were offended by his words. You felt like you were a burden to him so you just went to your room without saying anything else.
‘Did I say something wrong, old girl?’ he asked caressing the main console of the TARDIS. ‘Sometimes humans are complicated’ he sighs and went to the kitchen.
The morning after
You felt dizzy and tired despite having slept enough. You didn’t want to get out of bed, you had no energy for doing anything. You couldn’t know what time of the day it is, because your room didn’t have windows, and you forgot your phone in you jacket. You figured it was still early and you went back to sleep.
But the truth was that it was almost noon and the Doctor started to worry. You were always in the control room by the time he had woken up with your coffee steaming in your hands. Once you brought coffee to him too, but it ended up on the console. You laughed at the sour expression of the Doctor.
You heard steps coming from the corridor approaching you room door. You weren’t in the mood for visitors, so you hoped if you’d pretend to be asleep you’d avoid him. While this may have worked with other people before, you’d be fooling yourself if you thought that it’s gonna work with him. Without any knocking the door opened and a slightly worried but smiling face appeared.
‘Good morning, Miss Sunshine!’ he yelled with a grin. ‘What are you doing still in your pajamas? I thought we have things to do, like exploring other parts of the museum and stuff. Allons-y Y/n!’
‘I am not going anywhere today. Just leave me here. I will be fine by myself under my cozy blanket’ you said covering you head with the blanket.
‘Don’t talk nonsense. Yesterday you were so hyped about it. I even disguised the TARDIS yesterday so we could stay here. Come on now!’
‘I’m tired Doctor, I want to sleep.’
You could feel the emptiness aching in your soul. You didn’t want to lie to the Doctor, but you couldn’t say what was really going on. You feared that if he found out the truth then he would ditch you where he found you. You figured he didn’t want a broken companion. He left you to rest, but he assured you that he would come back later.
‘Hey, old girl. It’s just you and me now. Our guest is a little moody today, let’s find out why.’ He could sense that something wasn’t right with you, so he thought he would scan you with the TARDIS. The scanner didn’t show anything physically weird. ‘Hmm... This shows that everything is right with her. She isn’t injured or sleep deprived.’ He talked to himself loud, his mind racing from one idea to another.
Your mind was a messy place right now. You could feel the voices coming to get you and you were powerless. All you could do was to lie in your bed and try to not think at all. You just wanted to sleep, so you didn’t have to deal with this, but you couldn’t and it frustrated you. You knew what was going to happen in the next phase. You tried so hard to hold back the tears; you didn’t want to go down that road, not again, not with the Doctor near.
Back in the control room the Doctor was still at figuring out what’s wrong, when a little alarm started to ring from the display. It showed that you are in distress and about to have a meltdown. The Doctor rushed to your room, but by the time he arrived you were already crying uncontrollably under your blanket. It was so painful that the Doctor didn’t know what to do for a second. He just stood there in shock watching you as you squirm trying hard to breath, to contain the panic attack.
‘Kill me, please’ he heard your weak voice and his hearts clenched. He went to you and took you into his arm, hugging you tightly.
‘Hush now, little one.’ He caressed your back trying to calm you down. ‘It’s okay. I’m here now.’ He gave you a forehead kiss.
‘Please don’t leave me Doctor. I swear I’m not going to do this again.’ You cried in his chest. You were terrified.
‘Why didn’t you tell me? I could have helped. Never mind now, it will all be okay. I will never leave you Y/n. Trust me, I’m the Doctor!’
A blast echoed down the hallway, and seemingly in sync, the Doctor and Donna dove through the nearest doorway as fast as possible. Then, scrambling on their knees and hands, they both slammed the double doors behind them locking them without a second thought. They panted as they slid down the door and onto the ground. Finally, the sweet, tingly soreness could be felt seeping into their legs as they relaxed.
The Doctor closed his eyes, a few loud laughs slipping from his lips as his head went, 'thunk,' against the door behind him. Donna was quick to join in on the laughter, glancing at the Doctor's quaking form through her teary eyes. Several seconds passed like this, simple, loud and ugly laughter echoing through the room, before Donna was forced to gulp down oxygen. A couple more chuckles left their chests, before a gentle pair of footsteps caught their attention.
The sound of a nice voice reached both of their ears, calling teasingly, "Just the Doctor?" Immediately, the Doctor's eyebrows shot up into the air, and he bolted upright on wobbly legs, a bright, amazed smile on his face.
"(Y/n)?! Why- how did you get here?" Scrambling on his tired feet, excitement poured through every movement as he rushed forward to give the girl's hand a firm shake. "It's great to see you!"
"And you," (Y/n) grinned, looking over at Donna. "Didn't know if I should've interrupted your little laughing fit, so I waited a bit. Now, who's the lovely redhead?"
"Donna!" Said woman introduced herself, waving a hand before standing up, wiping her jeans off. "Nice to meet you."
"You as well," She greeted cordially, reaching forward and giving her hand a firm shake. A bang echoed against the doors, but the group did barely anything besides glance in the general direction of the noise.
However, very quickly, Donna's attention was snatched back to the beginning of this conversation, "Wait, I'm sorry, did you call him, 'Just the Doctor?'"
"I sure did," The girl grinned, glancing over to meet the Doctor's eyes. "Surely someone's done it before me."
A snort brought Donna's attention back to the gangly man himself, as he remarked, "No one's kept it up, though. Not as long as you have."
Smile brightening, (Y/n) stated, "Well, I guess I've made a world record, haven't I?"
This time, a series of bangs echoed against the door, but the Doctor simply chuckled, "More like a universal record." He shuffled around a bit, now standing right beside (Y/n) so he could keep his eyes on the door.
"Well, good for me," (Y/n) replied, once again meeting Donna's gaze with a smile. "Alright, now I'm curious. How'd you two wind up in this mess? I mean- I should've expected it, but really."
Donna laughed, throwing her head back as she pointed an accusing finger towards the Doctor, "That man right there, said he wanted to take me to a festival. He should've mentioned it was a cannibal festival."
"Well," The Doctor quickly jumped to his own defence, "Cannibal is a loose term, really."
A strange expression crossed (Y/n)'s face, and she turned to give him a look while stating, "No, no it's not."
Rolling his eyes with a sigh, the Doctor whipped out his screwdriver, before moving on from the topic, "How about we just blow this popsicle stand, and get back to the TARDIS?" He earned a couple nods of agreement, and smirked as he pointed his tool towards the doors.
"Sounds like a plan, Space Man," Donna quipped, moving herself behind the Doctor, already steeling herself for the long run ahead. She was dying to get her hands on a lemonade, anyway.
"Count me in, Just the Doctor," (Y/n) grinned, unconsciously leaning towards the Doctor just so she could hear the familiar whir of the screwdriver. And with that, the Doctor pressed a button and open the doors sprang. Without another thought, the trio rushed out the doors and straight past the cannibals waiting for them.
Apologies - I’ve lost track of the actual message this request came in, but this is for the anon reader who asked for a take on getting lost in a crowd when exploring a market with the Tenth Doctor. Enjoy!
___
It had not been the best of days. You’d begun it trying to help with peace negotiations between two rival tribes on a small desert world on the outer rim of the Medusa Cascade. The Doctor was well known to them and sure he’d be able to help, but somehow, something went wrong - some breach of protocol he hadn’t anticipated, and the two of you were unceremoniously ejected from the proceedings with an utter lack of dignity and a few curses that left the Doctor feeling obviously bruised.
Left at loose ends, you ended up strolling through the capital city’s rather extensive marketplace at what seemed to be the height of rush hour. There were people on foot everywhere, thousands of them, and hundreds of vendors selling their wares. You and the Doctor strolled slowly, sticking to the edges of the crowds to avoid getting swept along. You could tell he was thinking over what had just happened, analyzing what had gone wrong. You were trying to give him some space, occasionally distract him a little with light conversation. He smiled back absently to each of your forays but the smile never really reached his eyes.
In the end you fell silent and just tried to enjoy the sights around you. A pile of brightly colored, intricately woven fabric on a nearby table caught your eye.
“Doctor, hang on, I want to look at this,” you said. You heard a noncommittal grunt in response and went off to investigate. The fabric was light and sheer, sparkling with color and small flecks of gold and silver, and more beautiful than anything you’d ever seen. The vendor helped you arrange one around your neck and hair in the manner of locals, and you tried several colors, admiring the results in a mirror.
It wasn’t until you turned around to show the Doctor what you’d found that you realized he was nowhere in sight. The market around you was a literal crush of bodies, tall, skinny, short, fat, pink, brown, even an oddly gorgeous lavender shade of skin - but no sign of that ruffled hair or pin stripe suit or trainers. No glasses, no frown, no nothing.
You were, apparently, on your own.
You didn’t take it too seriously at first. Figuring he’d come back to find you, you purchased the length of sky blue linen you liked best and wrapped it around you like a shawl, enjoying looking just a little bit more like one of the locals. You browsed a few more tables. You waited. No results.
Well, you thought, I guess I better go looking for him.
It didn’t take long for you to realize that the market was even larger than you had thought. You wandered in roughly the direction you thought he’d been heading when you last saw him for a good half hour without ever finding a break in the stalls. It was made even more confusing by the seemingly random organization of everything. If there was a pattern to the stalls’ placement, you couldn’t see it - linens and exotic crystals and strange foods you couldn’t label were side by side with huge piles of pungent spices, local fashions, machine parts. The locals clearly understood how to navigate but you were soon thoroughly, completely turned around.
It was a relief when you suddenly found a fountain in a small clearing - something different, a landmark of sorts. Exhausted, hot, thirsty, and suddenly feeling very alone, you sat down on the edge of the fountain in the pounding sunlight to wait.
***
You estimated about an hour had passed when you finally saw him entering the square from the opposite side. His face looked pinched and worried until he saw you - and then his expression morphed through a quick combination of relief, happiness, and utter crossness as he stalked over to your side.
“Y/N, I have been looking for you for two hours!” he said, not raising his voice but still managing to sound like a disapproving school teacher.
“So’ve I!” you said indignantly, deciding that the best defense in this situation was probably cheek. “You’ve really got to stop wandering off like this, Doctor. I mean honestly, we’ve talked about this how many times?”
He gawped at you. “Me? Me wandering off? Have you lost your mind?”
You couldn’t help but grin at him - he just looked so gobsmacked.
“Oh,” he said, frowning at you as he realized you were pulling his leg. “Very amusing, Y/N. Very, very amusing. I see you woke up funny today.”
“I wake up funny most days,” you said pleasantly.
He sat down next to you with a grunt. “Don’t I just know it.”
“Sorry,” you conceded. “But in all fairness, you basically left me behind. I told you I was stopping to look at something. You made a noise like you heard me. And then you just disappeared.”
“I did?” He looked a little embarrassed and covered for it by cleaning his spectacles on his shirt. “Don’t remember that happening. Of course it’s far from my best day, all things considered. Got tossed out of the legislature on one of my favorite worlds. Blew the negotiation. Apparently abandoned you in a crowd of thousands.” He held his glasses up and peered through them, checking for dust. “Not really my finest work.”
You considered him for a moment, deeply surprised. The Doctor wasn’t usually one to admit to any weakness, but his shoulders were drooping and you could tell he was really worn down by today. You leaned over and rested your head against his shoulder for a moment, trying to radiate your support. He seemed to welcome the touch.
“You know what you need?” you asked.
“Oh please, tell…”
“Ice cream. You need ice cream,” you announced. “I’m pretty sure I saw the equivalent of ice cream about 14 or 15 turns back. In one of these directions. That way?” You stood up and faced one direction and then turned a quarter turn to face another. “Or was it that way? Doctor, all of these pathways look exactly the same.”
He cracked a small but genuine smile at you. “Good thing, then,” he said, “that you happen to have an excellent navigator with a completely superior - no, with a legendary olfactory system. If there’s ice cream within a kilometer radius, I can smell it.”
He hopped to his feet with some of his more usual enthusiasm showing signs of return and held out a hand to you.
“Follow the schnoz?” you asked playfully, taking his hand.
“That’s right!” he said, pulling you back into the crowd. “Allons-y!”

Tried a new writing style for this one. It's a little... surreal. Hope y'all don't mind.
It's not really fair to you, perhaps, but then again, he doesn't think that you mind. And he's not trying to be selfish. But homesickness was a lasting, soul-aching sort of disease that ate him up on the inside. And there was no cure, seeing as Gallifrey and everything that defined it was gone, snuffed out like nothing more than candle flame. He had no hope of going home ever again. He would never see it, never hear about it except for in whispered legends, never look out the open doors of the TARDIS to see it glimmering gold in the vast expanse of space.
His homesickness, ever-growing and untreatable, was permanent.
And so, now that you're around, he doesn't think that he's to be blamed for clinging to you so fervently. You don't understand it, though. He knows that he needs to explain himself to you, needs to show you how much you mean to him, but he is rather anxious that you won't see his reasoning as... complimentary. He might not either, if he were you. He sometimes feels as if he's using you. He knows that he's not, and that he loves you for you, but sometimes it seems like you are like... a way to staunch the bleeding, as it were. He is wounded, but you keep him from bleeding out. And if that is the reason why he first took you in, then so be it. If the beginning of your acquaintance was more akin to an addict getting a fix than an adventurer taking on a companion, what does it matter? He fell in love with you after you curbed his disease, and so what? He is in love with you, and you still unknowingly do him the generous courtesy of easing his pain.
You are the cure for a dying man, he thinks one day, observing you as you try to 'talk' with the TARDIS.
TARDISes have a language of their own that not even Gallifreyans can quite manage. You seem to be having quite a bit of luck with it, to the Doctor's surprise. But it's just one more thing, he realizes, that makes you so... the way you are. Which he can't explain, not at all. He's tried. He wondered, for awhile, if this was some miracle of science or, somehow more likely, faith. But he can find nothing, no explanation or evidence or clues, landing the unknown variables squarely in the unknown faith category. A bit out of his reach, for now. It's not something he needs to know, after all... but he wants to.
“You feel like home,” he says to you out of the blue, pulling your attention away from the TARDIS.
"You couldn't stand Gallifrey," you remind him. "If you could have it back, you'd just run away from it again."
"No," he says, shaking his head. And then, after some consideration, "Well, maybe. But it's not Gallifrey that I wanted to get away from, it was Gallifreyans. I loved Gallifrey."
You look at him without speaking. He feels some of your half formed questions drifting towards him, begging to be answered even though they haven't even been spoken. He gets imprints of them on his brain, though. It's some latent form of telepathy you seem to possess. It would never be noticed by humans or any other species, but he is a Time Lord. He knows a telepath when he feels one, even a mild and unpracticed one such as yourself.
"Come here," he says when your wordless questions sink into him. "I'll show you."
You obey, coming over to sink down against him, initiating a much appreciated cuddle. The Doctor chuckles before reaching out to press his fingers to the pressure points on your skull.
"Do you mind?" he asks, holding just short of contact.
"Go ahead," you say, and the whole world falls into itself.
Gallifrey seeps into you from his memory. You are assaulted with sensations, suddenly and intimately familiar with the raw feel of his home planet. The dry heat swirls across your skin just as it teases the glittering leaves of silver trees and sweeps over vast plains of red grass. The chill of the snow-capped mountains seeps into you bones and bites your tongue, teasing you with glimpses birds with orange feathers and flowers that look like clustered daises. Soft, earthy sand under your feet, the distant and constant hum of the Untempered Schism vibrating under your skin, the glimmer of alien stars above you on a violet sky, the inky reds and yellows bleeding into the valley and swathing you in light as the sunrise bursts over the jagged horizon, the music of the Ancients echoing impossibly after thousands of years—
This is what I feel when I'm with you.
You almost scream as the Doctor releases you from his memory, but it is not of pain, so the scream falls into a shuddering gasp.
"Why?" you ask, even though that can't be the right question. "How?"
"I don't know," the Doctor admits, drawing you into a closer embrace. "But when I'm with you... I'm on Gallifrey again. You are as close to home as I'm ever going to get."
That's sad, you think, because you can't possibly be a proper substitute for everything that he just showed you. That's sad.
"Maybe," he agrees. You're plenty used to him replying to you even though you haven't spoken out loud. "Maybe it's sad. But not when I'm with you."

prompt(s): Please can I request a tenth doctor x reader where he rescued her from her dying home-planet and because of that she’s fiercely protective of him (seeing as she understands what it’s like to be the last of your kind alive) and when he’s abducted and tortured she goes ape-shit and tears all the enemies apart with her bare hands and as she rescues him he admits he loves her? Idk sorry if it’s too complicated. Feel free to ignore this, btw. Thanks.

You are the last of your kind. So is he. That is perhaps one of the few reasons you feel so madly, hopelessly attached to him. He saved you. You recall that fateful day in the most heartbreaking detail, as if it only had happened a few hours ago. It was in flames, all of it – your home, your family, your world. The only thing that those hell fires did not dare touching was the starry sky above, the fairy lights of nearby planets and a strange blue box that appeared in your vision seemingly out of thin air. The door flew open, and still in shock, hurt and confused, you failed to react when a hand reached for your shoulder, hooked its fingers around it and yanked it with such force you felt your wounds tear. But you were safe. Safe inside the strange interior that greatly reminded you of a spaceship with a man that seemed more human than alien.
He called himself the Doctor. You thanked him, but he shook his head. It’s what he does, he said. Saves lives.
Now it was your turn to save his.
It happened naturally, really. You falling for him, slowly but steadily, you knew this was how it was going to end – with your feeling crushed under the weight of reality, but you neither minded nor cared. The Doctor is a strange man, quirky, charismatic, and sarcastic even, and you knew that you aren’t the first girl he saved, or the first one to tell him that you love him. So when it all fell still and you had completed your mission – saved him from the grasp of beings that wanted to end his reign and destroy every planet at their wake – and laid on the floor of the TARDIS, right next to him, you were beyond stunned to hear those four simple words slip his lips, so quietly and tenderly that it almost sounded like a horrible secret he was destined to bear alone.
The 10th Doctor Comforting You After Your Dog Died Would Include
Requested by @ace-cream-in-a-cone:
Hey there! Could you please write a would include with the 10th doctor comforting the reader after their dog died? Oh, and please make them just friends
A/N: Hi, sweetie! I hope you’re feeling a little better, and that this little thing I wrote cheers you up a bit. Remember that I’m here if you need to talk ❤
“I came as soon as I could, how are you doing?”
The Doctor is a very sentimental person, so he can empathize with you
Even if he’s never really had a dog himself
But he realizes people grow attached to them
Besides, he loves dogs himself! They are so sweet and kind and loyal
The Doctor also knew how much you loved your little dog
He had even gone with you to walk them every once in a while
So he would try his very best to comfort you
The first thing he would do would be offer you a hug
He wants to make you feel better and let you mourn that loss
It might have been an animal, but you loved them like a person
And he understands and lets you know how sorry he is for your loss
Also remind you that it’s okay to cry and let your emotions out
You shouldn’t bottle them, allow yourself to grief instead
If you wanted to, he would let you talk about your dog
Tell him how much you loved them and miss them
Laugh with you as you remembered cute things they did
Or that one time they did something really funny
The Doctor would feel like crying himself seeing you hurt like this
He wishes he could take your pain away
After that, he would try to take your mind off things
Maybe with a movie marathon? He would go all out
Popcorn, sodas, snacks, blankets and cuddles!
He would spoil you so much, anything you needed
Letting you choose your favorite movies to see with you
Or the ones you always go back to for comfort
All his attentions help a lot, making you feel loved
Reminding you that you’re not alone in this
That you don’t have to go through that on your own
The Doctor would also try to make you laugh
He would joke around a lot trying to see you smiling
To cheer you up and still distract you from everything
Maybe even tell you stories about his travels
Really, he would be there for you in any and all ways he could
