Prompt: My scarfâs stuck in the door of my apartment building and I canât reach the keypad to unlock the door to the lobby, can you help me out, neighbor-Iâve-never-spoken-to-before?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darcy sighed and tugged on the scarf, groaning when it appeared that tugging only made things worse around her throat.
âNeed some help?â She turned and sighed with relief when she saw a familiar face.
He had his cane with him, like always, and he actually looked a little more beat up than normal, now that she was looking at him, but he was familiar and he lived in the building, and right now, she couldnât afford to be anything other than happy to see him.
âYes please⌠thank you. My scarfâs stuck in the door and I canât reach the keypad to unlock the door, so Iâm stuck...â Darcy held still while he punched in the code for the door and she stepped forward, stumbling on the first step and landing in his arms before she fell completely on her face down the front stoop. âWhoaâŚâ
He helped her back to her feet, smiling. Â âYou okay?â
âYeah, totally. Are you?â she asked, feeling somewhat awful for forcing a clearly blind man to help her because of her absolute clumsiness.
âIâm fine, donât worry about me.â
âDo you mind if I ask about--â she began, but he already seemed to know what her question would be.
âMy other senses are heightened, I could hear you were in distress,â he explained. âIâm Matt, by the way. Matt Murdock. Â I donât think weâve officially met.â
âNo, we havenât,â Darcy laughed nervously. âIâm Darcy Lewis. Â Pleased to meet you, Matt. Sorry if my distress was distressing.â
âNot at all.â He held out his hand, and she took it, shaking it up and down before dropping it again.
âAre you alright? Did you fall or something?â she asked.
âFrowning, he shook his head. âNo, why do you ask?â
âOh, itâs just that you look a little banged up⌠thereâs a cut on your forehead and like⌠bruisesâŚâ
âOh right. I ran into a door. The building was unfamiliar to me. Happens all the time.â
âOh my gosh, Iâm so sorry!â she said, reaching out to touch his arm.
âDonât worry about it, Iâm fine,â he assured her. But he reached up to squeeze her hand all the same. Â She dropped it to her side and then folded both in front of her.
She took a step back, unsure of what to do now, so she simply asked, âCan I help you get inside or--â
âIf you donât mind.â He held out his hand and she took it, informing him of doorways and steps until he made it to the elevator. Darcy wasnât exactly sure how to lead him, but she had to guess that he knew where he was going, since heâd lived here a while.
âI have to confess, I know how to get into this building like the back of my hand, but it was nice to spend a little extra time with you, Darcy,â he smiled a little, blushing even.
Darcy wasnât even bothered in the slightest.
âWell, I mean, you did save me from certain death.â
âI doubt that having your scarf stuck in the door would have equated certain death, but I was happy to save you, regardless.â
It was her time to smile. Â To grin, really. Â Beam.
âSo what do you do, Matt Murdock?â she asked. âBesides saving silly girls from their outerwear.â
He chuckled. âIâm a lawyer, actually.â
Her eyebrows raised, but of course, he couldnât see that. Â âReally?â she asked. âWhat firm?â
âNelson and Murdock. Â Weâre a small firm. And we make next to no money because we usually get paid in pies. Sorry to disappoint, but--â
âOh no,â Darcy interjected. âThatâs⌠thatâs better.  Like.  Pies are amazing.â
âPies are amazing,â he agreed, laughing again.
âDo you like coffee with your pie?â she asked.
âAlways,â he replied.
âBecause Iâm told a make a really great lemon meringue pie, and I could bring that over with some coffee sometimeâŚâ
He blushed a deeper red, dropping his head for a moment. Â âI like lemon meringue.â
âYouâre gonna love mine. Â Whereâs your apartment?â
âIâm in 205,â he replied.
âAre you free on Saturday?â Darcy asked.
âI am free that afternoon,â he replied.
âIâll see you then?â She was practically bouncing in excitement. Â She was baking a pie for the cute guy in her building.
Inspiration from @dresupiâs Holiday Cocktail Prompts, originally posted in November 2018 :)
Choose a drink and a ship from one of the fandoms below and Iâll write you a drabble (guaranteed 400-800 words, if I write more itâs my gift to you :D) based on the flavor and spirit, if you will, of the drink :) Drabbles will tentatively be posted twice a week from the beginning of June to the end of August, depending on the volume of the requests. If you are so inclined, I also have my ko-fi open for donations, but thatâs totally not required <3
Send requests to this google form
I will write a ship of your choice from the following fandoms:
Marvel (Darcyland, MCU, Netflix, Fox, Sony, and Comics - no AoS, Cloak and Dagger, or Runaways at this time)
Harry Potter (no Fantastic Beasts at this time)
Red Dead Redemption 2
DC (Wondertrev, Raven/BB, or Harlivy only)
Star Wars (OT and Sequels, no incest or Reylo)
 Pineapple Jalapeùo Smash - pineapple chunks and juice, vodka, jalapeùo, lime
For the OTP questions - You like Daredevil? Would Darcy/Matt Murdock be alright? 11, 12, 3
11. If they were about to rob a museum, which one does backflips through lasers and which one is strolling behind with a bag of chips?I feel like this is obvious but Matt is totally showing up with all these flips and turns and shit, like âhey, darce, look, iâm a blind badass youâre datingâ and she gives no fucks, munching on chips and waiting for the best moment to hit the button on the wall and turn off the lasers. Because Darcy is the type to have found the off switch and not say anything.
12. Which one of your OTP overdoes it on the alcohol and which one makes the other stop drinking?Following @shu-of-the-windâs Making Of Monsters series that Iâm thoroughly wrecked by constantly (and take every opportunity to rec to people), Darcy has a bad month. Like, extremely bad that she wonât even talk to Matt or Jen about it and instead gets a bottle of booze of some sort and itâs just kinda her being a sad-angry drunk and then finally breaking down after Matt very gently takes it from her, sets it aside and then waits for her to finally say whats wrong.
3. Who walks around the house half-naked and who yells at them to put on some clothes?Honestly they both do this and neither mind? Like, maybe when really flustered Darcy will ask him to put on a shirt or something, but naw. They usually donât care.
RULES: List the first lines of the last ten stories you published. Look to see if there are any patterns that you notice yourself, and see if anyone else notices any! Then tag some friends. Thanks for the tag @snailsarecute <3
1. Darcy feels her cheeks fill with heat as she raises her number into the air, and again when Pietroâs eyes drift across the crowd and directly onto her. (from For What Itâs Worth)
2. Even as the bow slices the air in front of her, Allison canât take her eyes off the woman sheâs always known as her little sister. (from Oh Mother Dear Weâre Not the Fortunate Ones)
3. It had been late when the show finally ended, and Arthur had firmly insisted against riding all the way back to Shady Belle at this time of night. (from Safe and Warm)
4. âMiss Gaskill?â (from Lakeside Romantics)
5. Darcyâs hand was on his bicep before he could find his way off the makeshift stage Foggyâs dad had set up in the basement of the shop, and Matt couldnât help but smile at the way the heat radiated off her cheeks. (from Whispers)
6. âYou must be shitting me.â (from Dangerous Men)
7. âHey Jane,â Bucky stage-whispered, not looking up from his book. (from Punk Rock, Stephen Hawking, and Norse Mythology)
8. Steve swallowed for what feels like the hundredth time, busying himself with his wineglass while Darcy tried unsuccessfully to look inconspicuous while she guided the restaurant menu in front of her face. (from Rising)
9. Nebula catches them late one night when most of the crew are in bed, though with how loudly the Terran song is playing, sheâs unsure whether the rest of them are asleep or merely pretending, accustomed by now to the strange practice Quill and Gamora have adopted. (from Let Your Body Be the Velvet of the Night)
10. It all started with one, teensy, totally mostly innocent text. (from Adventures in Irrationality)
And, a couple of bonuses from fics Iâll probably never publish, because Iâm anxious about Character/OC stories:
11. Rains Fall is five years old. (from an RDR2 fic called Smoking Guns and the Nature of Warfare)
12. The thing about living in the Cade house is that you canât escape the expectations. (from an Outsiders fic called The Latest in a Series of Misfires)
13. In all the years that Randalâs worked at the video-slash-convenience store and all the years Jay and Silent Bob have sold weed and E and all the other shit and stood around and grab-assed with him and Dante, heâs been invited to quite the handful of parties by the self-proclaimed Bluntman and Chronic. (from a Clerks fic called A Series of Fatal Mistakes).
A big fat mishmash of pairings and relationships, from Shieldshock, to Quicktaser, to Nebulantis, to a sisterly Allison & Vanya Hargreeves and more<3
I tag @dresupi @ibelieveinturtles @glynnisi @melifair @grimeysociety and any other wonderful writers whoâd like to participate <3
âIâd ask what a nice guy like you is doinâ in a place like this, butâŚâ
Matt smiled into the nape of her neck before adjusting his tie and letting his free hand drift down to the soft curve of her waist. Â Darcy grinned, too, took a puff of the long, thin cigarette between her fingers, and sipped from the glass in front of her. Â The band in the corner was playing something fine and slow, and there was something funny about a man who practiced law sitting in a joint like this, something even funnier about his assistant draped across his lap with rouge on her lips so red it was a shame her law-man couldnât see it.
Matt brought his mouth to her ear. Â âFisk and his fellas still talkinâ shop over there, huh?â
She raised her eyes to the fat cat in the crisp suit in the corner opposite the band, a small crowd of lackeys and parasites assembled around him. Â Wilson Fisk was holding court as usual, his latest flame, a woman named Vanessa, draped over him much the way Darcy was with Matt. Â His voice boomed loud enough, but the music played just a little louder, so the words didnât come quite so easy to Darcyâs untrained ears.
âLooks to be the case,â she sighed and gave her drink an absent stir. Â She wouldnât be here if Matt didnât need to keep under wraps, wouldnât be all dolled up and dropped in his lap if they didnât need more information for the case they were building against Fisk.
In short, she musta been a glutton for punishment, going this far for a man who could never love her the way she loved him, who had no idea what she felt about him.
âHey,â he said quietly, like he could sense the change in her demeanor. Â âWe finish these drinks, you feel up for a dance with me?â
âA dance?â
âI might step on your toes.â Â He chuckled, and she became painfully aware of the hand at her waist, his long, dexterous fingers meandering back and forth over the thin fabric of her dress. Â âBut I got a feeling you look too damn good not to ask to dance tonight, Darce.â
âI donât wanna be brash here, boss,â she said, turning to glance at him, those gorgeous, hazy amber eyes hidden behind the dark of his glasses, âbut how would you know how good I look tonight?â
âI know you look good always, Miss Lewis.â Â They stood up together, the hand not on her waist gliding down her wrist to lace their fingers together. Â âJust waitinâ for the right chance to tell you.â
In spite of herself, she could feel the heat in her cheeks pulling at the corners of her mouth. Â She guided Matt toward the dance floor, making sure to keep his back to the area where Fisk and his men were congregated. Â Her arms found his shoulders, and when the singer began to croon out something too gorgeous for a night like this, Darcy could nearly feel herself melting into him. Â âI gotta say, Mr. Murdock, you have a way of makinâ a girl blush.â
âWell, nice girl like you in a place like this...a good blush is the least you deserve.â
for @phoenix-173 Thank you so much for requesting, love! I hope you enjoy it :)
Darcy does not have a crush.
As a twenty-five-year-old grad student in one of the most prestiged sociology programs in the East Coast, she knows that crushes are an asinine, juvenile illusion reserved for children and idiots.
And, yes, she does feel like a pretentious jackass thinking all that.
But the fact of the matter is that Darcy is, for all intents and purposes (which is a phrase sheâs become all too familiar with the last few months), an adult. Â And in spite of how nice Matt Murdock, law and sociology professor extraordinaire, smells every time he walks past her table and raps his knuckles just a few inches from her binder, he, too, is an adult. Â An adult who is attractive and kind and funny and whom she absolutely does not have a crush on.
It all started with a bagel. Â Just an innocent, delicious, everything bagel smothered in lite whipped cream cheese that sat on the edge of Darcyâs possessions, that she had been saving for her perpetually late roommate Trish.
Now, Darcyâs not the type of girl to show up twenty minutes early to class, sit and study as the rest of the students inevitably flood in, and listen with perked up ears as lecture goes on. Â But for Matt Murdock, she likes to show up about ten minutes till class starts with Starbucks in tow, shift between Twitter and her notes until class starts, and take studious enough notes to get her through each exam.
And though, on that fateful second day of class, she knew Trish had been working late the previous night and she wanted to be a good roommate for once, when handsome professor Matt Murdock did his usual lap past her table. Â His nostrils flared when he caught the scent of the bagel, and he paused in front of her to smile and make a joke about food in the classroom.
That was when Darcy decided to try and crack a joke back, flinging her arms around like a madman, and tossed the bagel onto handsome Matt Murdock and his incredibly expensive-looking suit.
An awful way for a not-crush to begin, but Darcy Lewis doesnât know how to do normal.
Now, itâs not that Mattâs blind that he doesnât care about the suit. Â No, even if he could see the little shreds of cream that coated the damn thing, he wouldnât care. Â Because heâs just that nice.
Trish will call her a kiss-ass for doing it, but the final class before the exam, Darcy wraps up a new suit - nothing fancy, no Armani or Prada - and places it carefully in front of her laptop.  She checks her phone for the time; he should be coming in any minute now.  Any minuteâŚ
âMorning, Darcy.â Â One hand loosely holding a cane and the other wrapped around a travel mug of hot coffee, he arrives fashionably early, and loads his messenger bag onto the front desk. Â âYou feeling pretty set for the exam?â
âI think so.â Â Her voice comes out higher than she means it to. Â She also forgets to ask him how he knew it was her, but assumes it has to have something to do with the perfume she always wears, or some other obscure thing that heâs impeccably observant about. Â âYou feeling all set for summer break?â
He pops open the latch to his messenger bag and ruffles around inside while he answers. Â âWonât be too much of a break. Â I think Iâm going back to full-time lawyering for a bit.â
âNo more teaching, then, huh?â Â She plucks up the courage to stand, and to press the small package onto the desk in front of him. Â âYouâll be missed around here.â
âYou will, too.â  From within the bag he procures a small plastic box.  âI, uhâŚgot you a graduation gift, actually.â
âI guess I got you one, too.â  Their hands brush in the exchange; Darcy swears her heartâs beating out of her chest like a Looney Tune.  âThanks, Matt, this is reallyâŚâ
âOpen it.â Â He smiles, his finger dancing along the little pink ribbon sheâd tied around his gift.
She pops the lid open and canât help the easy laugh that leaves her mouth. Â A small silver pendant in the shape of a bagel dangles from the thin chain. Â When she looks closely, she sees her initials stamped into the bagel.
âThis is awesome, MattâŚthank you so much.â  Throwing caution to the wind, Darcy wraps her arm around him, holding him long enough to inhale the delicious smell of fresh linens and something like vanilla.  Heâs got on his sheepish smile when she finally lets go.
âI hope itâs not too inappropriate.â
âJust inappropriate enough.â  She nudges the gift in his hands.  âYou should open yours.  Not nearly as cool or personal as this, but hopefully I got it right.â  Darcyâs breath catches as he rips into the wrapping paper, and again when he traces the seams of the suit with his fingertips.  âI know literally nothing about menâs clothes, so I just asked the lady there to help me outâŚI hope it all fits.â
âYou didnât have to do this, DarcyâŚâ he trails off, but his voice is not regretful.  On the contrary, he sounds like heâs waiting.  For her to fill in the blanks, or for her to say something that doesnât sound like verbal diarrhea.
âI wanted to.â Â And because sheâs already said fuck-all to the universe and what is and isnât appropriate for student-teacher behavior, she leans toward him and presses a mostly chaste kiss to his cheek. Â âAnd Iâm sorry if thatâs too inappropriate, too.â
He makes a face that can only be described as a smirk, one that would feasibly melt her panties directly off her if they werenât in public at the moment.
âDonât be.â
If you enjoyed, Iâve got plenty more ABBA songs where that came from :) Let me know what I can do for you!
