-Nebula was only five when Thanos killed her entire family right in front of her before cutting out her eyes so she'd never have to see pain like that again.

-Her new eyes were only the first of many cybernetic enhancements that Thanos gave her body.

-After enduring years of torture and punishment from her new father Nebula has learned to become emotionally cut off. It makes everything hurt less.

-When she met Gamora's fellow guardian Mantis she was less than impressed by the woman who kept talking about Nebula's "repressed feelings".

-Mantis knows her life isn't as horrible as Nebula's was but she knows what it's like to have a less than stellar father figure.

-She keeps trying to help Nebula realize that it's okay to have feelings and that it won't always get her hurt.

-Nebula initially pushes back, literally and figuratively pushing Mantis away from her but after having to deal with her sister's death and finally getting rid of the monster that was Thanos she's come to her own realization, actually full on crying for the first time in a long while.

-She reluctantly goes to Mantis for help dealing with her new emotions and the other woman is more than willing to help her find a healthy way of coping.

-It honestly didn't take long for them to become romantically involved much to the surprise of the guardians.

-Nebula thinks it's kind of funny how much Mantis knows yet how ignorant she is to other things.

-Like sarcasm, which Nebula uses a lot but Mantis had still they this grasp the concept.

-That being said, if anyone said anything about her girlfriend Nebula would kick their ass.

-Mantis is similarly protective Nebula in her own way. Albeit less intimidating but she tries.

-Nebula still harbors a lot of sadness and Mantis sees it as her job to make Nebula happy when she can't do it herself.

-They're surprisingly cute in public, their first official date was when they were still on Earth and went to see a movie for the first time.

-They watched Moana and as a result have started watching all the Disney movies on a TV that they stole.

Peter: You stole a TV?!

Rocket: Actually I believe the word is liberated.

Peter: No it's really not.
