Rollan: I’m too busy plotting your murder to sleep, Tarik.

Summary: Let's talk about Tarik! 😀
Tarik is a character from The Murderbot Diaries who, even though he doesn't get a whole lot of screen time, has some fascinating hints dropped about his violent-tragic-traumatic backstory, is high-key competent and low-key funny, and seems to be embroiled in a lot of Messy Gay Drama.
He plays a rather significant supporting role in System Collapse, but he never felt like a main character to me. The story never explores his interiority; his desires don’t drive the narrative; his decisions don’t change the course of events. Which is fine, and in context, completely understandable—he’s here to do a job, and his job is following MB’s and/or Iris’s orders.
Though compared to All Systems Red, where MB was paying a lot of attention to the internal states of the PresAux crew—how they felt about each other, about MB, about the situation—it’s kind of strikingly absent from System Collapse. Murderbot never wonders about Tarik as a person, doesn’t speculate on what he’s thinking or feeling, we’re just left to infer it from what’s on the page.
So I’ve taken a fine-toothed comb to Network Effect, System Collapse, and Rapport for mentions of Tarik to see what canon says about him. Rather than trying to put them in some kind of chronological order, I have grouped them by theme.

just putting this out there, for anyone's Tarik-whumping needs
My friends are the bestest friends ✌️
(thanks @coffee-mage-sans-caffeine!)
Ugh. I am now obligated to write Ratthi/Tarik because they're dynamic is too good. The sunshine+Grump/Skeptic who would probably die for the sunshine (they even have a misunderstanding leading to a hiccup in their relationship. Come ON)
Write something sweet
Write something devestating
Make a suggestion (Rebagle or comment)
A resolution to their ‘fight’
There's so much untapped potential. And I will write regardless but I do like it when people let me know what they're interested in reading
Aw, a skeptical, mission-minded combat specialist who's haunted by his bloody past as an enforcer for the Corporates getting with the sunshine scientist who sees the good in everyone and is obnoxiously supportive
Ratthi / Tarik is adorable. I'm gonna die
I'm also worried for Tarik, because if he makes Ratthi cry Murderbot will rip his arms off.
