#system fusion

I've seen people talk about wanting fusion, integration, final fusion, becoming singlet again, or just reducing separation between alters, and some of the reactions are honestly ridiculous. People act like the system just announced they're committing some horrible betrayal against themselves. Suddenly everyone has an opinion. Everyone wants to tell them they're making a mistake. Everyone wants to explain why they shouldn't want that.

Why?

Since when did other people's recovery goals become a community decision?

What bothers me most is how often the same people who constantly demand respect for their own experiences suddenly stop respecting other people's experiences the second they hear something they don't personally relate to. They'll preach acceptance, understanding, and autonomy all day long, but the moment a system says, "Actually, I want to become one person again," suddenly that acceptance disappears.

It's honestly hypocritical.

Not everybody experiences plurality the same way. Not everybody feels the same way about their alters. Not everybody has the same relationship with their system. Not everybody wants the same future.

Some people want to remain separate forever.

Some people want partial integration.

Some people want final fusion.

Some people aren't sure what they want.

And all of those are perfectly fine.

What I find especially frustrating is when people start treating fusion like it's some kind of death sentence. They'll talk about it as if alters are being erased, murdered, deleted, or destroyed no matter how the people involved actually feel about it. Meanwhile the system that wants fusion is sitting there saying they're happy, comfortable, and actively choosing it.

Why are strangers trying to be offended on their behalf?

You don't get to decide what somebody else's happiness looks like.

You don't get to decide what somebody else's healing looks like.

You don't get to decide what somebody else's future should look like.

If a system says they want to become one person again and they're making that decision for themselves, then that's their choice. It is their mind. It is their life. It is their experience.

The amount of fearmongering surrounding fusion sometimes genuinely feels unhealthy. Some people talk about it like it's the worst possible outcome when, for many systems, it can be a completely positive and fulfilling goal. Just because it isn't what you would want doesn't make it bad.

And honestly, I think some people have become so attached to the idea that plurality must always remain permanent that they've forgotten that personal autonomy exists. The goal shouldn't be making everyone choose the same path. The goal should be letting people choose the path that feels right for them.

A system wanting to stay multiple isn't wrong.

A system wanting to become one isn't wrong.

A system changing their mind isn't wrong.

A system being unsure isn't wrong.

What is wrong is acting like people owe you a specific outcome because it makes you more comfortable.

At the end of the day, nobody should be pressured into fusion, and nobody should be pressured away from it either. Both are equally important. People deserve the freedom to decide what they want for themselves without having random strangers turning it into a debate.

I just find it bizarre that some people claim to support system autonomy while actively getting angry when systems make choices they personally wouldn't make. If you truly believe people should have control over their own experiences, then that support shouldn't suddenly disappear the moment somebody's goals differ from yours.

Not every system wants the same ending to their story, and that's okay. The problem starts when people stop respecting that.
