Steve can't recall the last time he could take a breath and let it go where the world didn't need his help. That or the help of his boyfriend.
Strolling through the park, rose and note in hand as he fights to keep the smile off his face, he can't fight it any longer and let's it form as he finds Sam waiting for him just like the note had said. "Did you really plan this?"
Already shaking his head as he laughs, Sam holds up his hands as he fixes Steve with a look. "Yeah, you bet I did. Knowing you, you'd rather just stay in and cuddle all night long."
Rolling his eyes as he takes a sniff of the rose, Steve snorts as he gently nudges Sam. "Like you have a problem with cuddling on the couch all night long."
"Yeah, okay, but we can also do that out here, outside the city, under the stars." Sam concedes as he waves over to the blanket he has set out for them.
Biting at his lip, Steve looks back between the blanket and Sam before reaching to take a hold of his hand, interlocking their fingers. Feeling a kiss being pressed to his cheek, Steve lets himself be led towards the blanket before settling down and cuddling close to Sam.
"Just so you know?" Sam murmurs, a smile in his voice.
"Hmm?" Steve hums, turning his head to face Sam, a smile spreading across his own face.
"These stars are nothing compared to the ones I've seen in your eyes."
Steve doesn't know whether the tears blurred his vision first or if his smile stretches until it hurts, but all he knows is that he hugs Sam close and presses a kiss to his lips.
"I love you." Steve murmurs as he presses a second kiss to the edge of Sam's mouth.
"Love you too, you dope." Sam chuckles, grinning as he cuddles closer to Steve, pressing their heads together as they settle down once more and continue to watch the stars.
Steve doesn't know how long they lay there for, a comfortable silence settling between them beyond the soft sounds of nature that filter by. He doesn't know how much time passes, but he knows he wouldn't mind staying there forever, peaceful and happy with absolute love of his life.
